in 2004 i visited lake sebu in cotabato and had the honor of meeting and recording y'egas, a t'boli singer. the first time i recorded her, she thought i was there to exploit them and their land. understanding that i only had good intentions, she agreed to sing for me again, especially since the tape of my 1st recording got corrupted. this time she sang about the beauty of the place and hoped i take back good memories of it and her through her song ;-)
if any t'bolis watching this video would like to translate this to english, we would be grateful :-) thanks!

This is truly authentic Tboli chanting by one of it's masters, Y'egas, brilliant in so many ways. Great that she is preserved in audio-visual, though the challenge for humanity is to preserve these ancient Tboli traditions for generations to come. A daunting task, with the encroachment of Christianity, the modern world, and people of other Filipino backgrounds grabbing land in Tboli ancestral land in South Cotabato, Lake Sebu, causing further challenges and the diluting of authentic Tboli heritage.

rural and remote tradition may not change fast enough to be exciting to youth. also because used as a handle to stay grounded and to not lose identity. but the real point is there were days in the past without it. someone started. today it must be possible to start new development within the culture, and have open debate about some competition or coexistence of new ideas. when we don't change we are not ourselves but ersatz mirrors of ourselves. preserve culture=preserve ability to change within

in urban life (already known as romanization) there is an additional level of art that is more on the intellectual side and free experimenting. once the children come to the city, they want to stay because the mind becomes thirsty for this level after discovering it. now every village will have a number of smartphones, and can create a virtual city among any groups of people worldwide. it becomes possible to create the intellectual level of art in one's own village and identity. kids will stay.

Filipino is a language which no Pinoy has as their mother tongue. It's an artificial language based on Tagalog to impose on other precious language. Blind Nationalists intends to kill off all other language with "Filipino".

@@TakZ000 true. We don't actually need filipino or anything. What we need is the teachings of the REAL CULTURE and the true face of our country. Filipino is the reason why a lot of filipinos can't speak Tagalog/Visaya/Hiligaynon/Kapampangan all languages very well.
