Damn fine looking setup! By the looks of it, at this price point, it looks like an excellent value! Btw, first time on your channel and I enjoyed your commentary, very entertaining. First and foremost, thank you for this video series on TC Compass. I purchased one two years ago for my son to hunt with and have been VERY pleased with it. Last year he even tagged a cow elk at just under 200 yards. The ammo used was developed around your video with ELD-X and H4350.I think as he gets older and bigger, I am considering the upgrades you've made in this video. Keep up the great job. Again thank you for all your work with this rifle/ammo combination.

Normal procedure for torquing action screws is: 1) lightly screw on rear and then front screw until finger tight, 2) bounce the rifle butt on the ground to seat action into firm contact with recoil lug, and 3) torque rear and then front screws to 35 in-lbs for wood stocks. Pillar bedding that action and using more torque (55-60 in-lbs) would provide better consistency. Shimming and then incrementally bedding the magazine into the proper position would also eliminate the slop and make the process of seating the magazine more reliable.

243 Outdoors I bought one in 308 over a year ago. Put a Boyd’s pro varmint stock on it with a mcarbo trigger spring kit and a Witt machine muzzle break. Finally had time to sight it in with a scope and shoots great. I think you would enjoy putting it to the test like you have done with your American predator. Only thing I’m not fond of is the skinny barrel.

@@243Outdoors I have the RAP in 308. Had to change the stock and I put on Sure Fire ProComp. I also have a Compass in 223 with the same brand break. Of the two I like the Compass much better. The stock is allot stiffer than Ruger and the trigger is better also. The only thing I like better about the Ruger is the safety. The compass also shoots tighter groups but that could be the caliber. I'm thinkin I might get another Compass in 7mm Rem Mag.

Hi there Johnny! When you set up a new rifle you should always remove your scope bases, clean the screws & screw holes,Loctite the threads & apply pressure forward on the bases while you tighten them to the proper torque. The same with your scope rings & remember to apply force forward while tightening. The barreled action is just the opposite, here you stand the rifle on it's butt pad & apply force down or to the rear to set the action against the recoil lug while tightening the action screws front screw first. This procedure sets each part against the next to remove any play so there is no shift under recoil. I also recommend lapping in your scope rings,I have found even the high end rings to be out of round to the point where they could damage the scope tube or at a minimum not have to enough bearing surface to securely hold the scope in place during recoil or a dropped rifle! Hope this helps & hey, love your channel!

I have the same rifle and put the Boyd's stock and trigger job this past Jan. I wasn't happy with the plastic mag washer for many reasons. Mostly because it wasn't thick enough to seat the front action screw without locking up the Bolt. I fabricated one same size with 1/4" steel, the back had to be relieved were the magazine sat but works flawlessly. Other mods I have made, muzzle break and one PC scope base. I agree, best 300 buck in the firearms industry.

Good video. I would like to add also that I do not carry or walk around with a loaded gun and safety off, but did want it to pass the drop test. I took the second nut off and replaced it with a small washer that I sanded a little thinner, (don't remember the thickness off hand) and put it on with the 1 nut. That brought my trigger pull to between 2.5 and 3 lbs. I was able to pass the drop hard test.

I used the Hornady Precision Hunter, but it took them less than a year to jack the price up ridiculously. Now I use the Hornady 147gr BTHP Match, because I can get it for $22. a box and it is just as accurate and doesn't cost $36-38 a box. Winchester did the same with their Expedition bullets less than a year to make them ridiculous in price. The first year they came out Hornady PH and Winchester EXP were $20-24 a box now they are just ridiculous. P.S. Great Video and Great Shooting. I have phenomenal accuracy with nothing on the barrel, but that's mine, and each rifle is different even if from the same manufacturer.

6.5CM does perform well on elk within appropriate ranges and premium bullets if you put it in the vitals. I took a 5pt bull with one shot at 200 yards using 143 grain Hornady Eldx factory ammo. Bull went down within 25 yards. My friend got a 6pt bull at 275 yards same ammo. I just watched a video of a 15 year girl drop a very large bull, probably a 350 class, at 300 yards with a single shot and the bull went down within a few steps. I personally wouldn't use it past 350-400 yards, but it will do the job if you do yours and get within range.

Love the video Johnny, keep up the good work. Your videos got me into 6.5 CM platform. I bought the same rifle (TC Compass in 6.5CM) and love it! I took my little $225.00 Compass to a 1000 yard shoot over the summer, and out shot many other high dollar rifles (12.378" group) using my hand loads (Hornady 143gr ELD-X over 41.5gr H4350). My only mod was the same trigger job you just showed, and a muzzle brake. Can't go wrong with this little rifle.

Great job!... Man that last group might have beat out the tightest factory group!!..... cut out thin metal shims to install under the mag catch. Looks like 1 or 2 half millimeter shims will fix it. Not identical to the catch plate, but same as the bearing surface of the stock under the plate. Stock looks good! This has encouraged a lot of viewers, including me, on which 6.5 to purchase for a light weight hunting rifle. Been watching for a long while, and kind of getting worried about a possible addiction that's happening here! Enough said..... I'm headed to the shop to load for the coming bear season. Thanks again!!

My experience is the same as yours with factory ammo. I have a Savage 12FV in 6.5Cm and with factory ammo I get groups in the 1-1.5" range except for the Federal Premium with the 135gr Berger bullets, those shoot generally under 1moa. The worst ? Winchester white box power point, never better that a 4" group at 100 yards. The best ? My handloads with a mid-charge of Winchester 748 and a cheap ($30/100) PPU 120gr OTM bullet, .5"- 5 shot groups all day long at 100. I believe that Savage will shoot tighter but I need to practice, it's to the point where I'm the limiting factor. As for Glades Armory in my experience they have been great, my 12FV and 270 Axis and my sons 308 Axis all are equipped with their bolt handles, great pieces and at our door in 4 days. As for the rust a quick spray of Ballistol during assembly will keep everything from rusting.

The mag catch in the Boyd's is disappointing. The worst part is that it will fall out and mis-align every time you remove the gun from the stock. I saw the other comment about swapping the washer & and plastic tab. Not sure if that will work or if it just needs to be straightened. I suggest that once you find the right setup, use some epoxy to glue the tab and washer to the stock (with the action removed, of course). That should make the setup repeatable without worrying about alignment.

Suppressors are illegal in NJ. I have two 6.5Creedmoors with target crowns. You have to work the load to the barrel. IMO. With my Remington 700, I can put 5 shots in one hole at 200 yds. With my Tikka, I put 5 shots in two holes at 300 yds.(.75 group = .25 MOA) All while shooting prone with a bipod. BTW, all done with 140 ELD. The 700 I did it with 41.0g H4350. Adding that spacer kind of removed the free part of free floating. I took my action out, and sanded the edges of the stock and inside of foreend with 60 grit ( then 100) sand paper. Made both sides even. I sanded and tested the stock until when loading it on a bipod the barrel was not able to touch the stock in any location. Next I will bed 2 carbon arrows with 2 ton epoxy into the front and add some weight to the back to stiffen up the rifle and add some weight.

Ruger American's tend to be hit or miss. I have one in 6.5 and shoot sub MOA with handloads, it's an amazing shooter! But the next guy in line may have a bad experience. It's not pretty rifle, but serves me well 100-500 yds. Great budget performance for me.

@@ryanf922, I have 2 of them now and love them both. Not much opportunity to reach with them, but both are great at 300 yards

I shot the S&B ammo in my 6.5 Creedmoor TC Compass. I had to hammer the bolt back with the palm of my hand , every shot. The ammo was reasonably accurate at 50 yards though.

Hmm, if you have a spacer that makes contact with the stock and barrel then technically the barrel is no longer freefloated. But seriously, keep up the great videos and the great information! Thanks!

Have got that same kind of GA bolt handle on my Ruger American Rimfire, I quite like it , but yes I did also have issues with them as a company, took 4-5 months to get the exact right handle (as I live in Australia, so takes ages to get things sent) as the headspace if very dependent on the bolt knob they sent.

If you look at the lowest piece of shiny silver metal that is touching the back side of the black trigger that is what they added to fix the problem. The early ones did not have that part. I am going to call it an inertia shoe but I do not think that is proper name. So even with the safety on if you dropped it it would go bang. So now if you drop it the trigger can not move under inertia.

I want to do all that you are doing to this gun. I have it in 7 mm REM MAG. Such a great price on the boyds stock.

Love my Boyd’s stock. Went with the At-One. I love the adjustable cheek riser and length of pull. The rings would be a non issue with that stock.

In my ruger american I used a hammered and drilled penny to work as a shim for the mag catch.

I'd get an adjustable kydex riser. 20 bucks on amazon. Also, a great winter project is going to be pillar and glass bedding that guy!
