Just put in two floors with Lev Tec 1/16. I find that if there is any mortar that oozes out from the tile and near the base of the spacer the Lev Tec spacer will snap off at the top, instead at the bottom where it is supposed to. It is extremely hard to then dig out the plastic piece sticking out and try to break it off. Sometimes the spacers do break when applying the wedge to the spacer with the designed plyer. The system is leveling the tiles nicely though and I will probably use it again.

@Tako2e
@Tako2e 5 жыл бұрын
John Reddin I noticed that to. So I hold one end of the tile while squeezing the pliers. It went from 1/8 to almost 1/4in. Still a good system thou. But then again RLS clips break super easy. And T-Lock is an arm and a leg so you have to go with what suits you best. I still haven’t tried the T lock thou but I will soon

Neither have a raised little lip running the center of clip which I never hear mentioned. Sometimes when you run into a high spot in slab, the clips need to be forced under tile more, so with the raimondi clips, I simply use a margin trowel and push clip in with force. If the clip doesn't have something to push against, a margin trowel can break off the clip. It's a bit hard to explain, but the raimondi clips have a raised plastic edge that you can push against, which is a really good thing

So is the t-lock actually 2mm or 1/16"? What about levtec? 1/16" is 1.59mm so that extra 0.41mm adds up across a room.

I see that you focused mainly on price in comparison and not as much on each product in detail - you missed all key features of T-Lock system.....at the end of the day what you pay is what you get. I have chance to use all leading systems that are currently on market and T-Lock is winner for me, here are few very important features that that makes T-lock way better investment: - Wedges are way more sturdier, durable than Levtec or RLS , made of way harder composite not allowing them to bend or break like other systems ( have life-time manufacturers warranty) - Wedges also have built in spacer in 4 sizes at tip 5:27 , can be used as classic spacer on floor and wall installations ! 1/32, 1/16, 1/8 and 1/4" ! No other system have this feature - Wedges are also way easier to install without tool ( pliers) due to very finger friendly end , without any sharp corners that can hurt your fingers in longer run ( no need for pliers for smaller jobs), also angle of wedge is smaller in T-locks, allowing way easier adjustment and installation without tool. - Clips are very flexible , and even if you stand on them accidentally several times they will not brake like RLS or other systems and still can be used ( I wish you showed that comparison ) - Clips are also designed to be used without tool ( pliers) , have finger friendly edges and shape ( no need for pliers on 200 sqft jobs) Other systems basically can not be used without tool - Each clip has its size stamped on spacer part, allowing you to see size that you have in hand , that feature also is great if you decide to use broken element as " horse shoe shim, spacer" - you do not have to throw away white element after installation - you can use it as horse shoe spacer in the future - Also flat part that goes under the tile is thinner, allowing you to slide it under tile slightly easier - Flat part also do not cover as much space under the tile - allowing thinset - glue to for better coverage where clip was inserted 5:51 - Clips are also way more durable, well designed and basically do not brake during installation ( just look 5:51 ) like levtec example that you showed at the beginning of this video and use of rescue level head. Everything that is listed above are pros of T-Lock system that Levtec and other similar systems simply do not offer, do not have, and this is why I use only t-lock, really wortf spending few extra $$ I really wish you look closer at each product before making video and focus on small details that makes really big difference instead of focusing mainly on price. In construction industry I learned long time a go, what you pay is what you get. This 2 systems are good example of this .

Have a question? Won't this create air gaps when the tile is lifted up? That could potentially cause a tile to pop off 8 12 years down the road. And ask any of your potential tile installers what there pattern is for thin set. If it is a swirling motion move on to a tile man who does straight lines. I am replacing 900 square feet of tile now. Because of swirling motion. Tiles are popping up because of air gaps.

We real installers, don't use these systems, I consider the use of these new products an offense to real tile installer like me. Back in the day, we use to show more pride on every job that we do,today it seems like everything is about time and money, the faster you are, the more money you can make, who cares about a good quality job these days.
