One thing I like about this scene is it shows some of Alan’s character development. He went from not liking kids, to tolerating them, to actively engaging with them. He could have just been “Tim, see the Gallimimus, how they run and change course like birds” but instead he got Tim to use his passion and strengths to identify them himself. I really wish they wrote more for Lex to use her strengths.

Tim seemed to be knowledgeable about dinosaurs sharing a passion with Alan. That could be why Alan was relating to Tim in this scene as maybe Alan held a fascinating for dinosaurs when he was Tim’s age. Lex does shine when the adults are forced to hold off the raptors. Lex’s computer skills save them by getting the system to reconnect and restore the locks on the doors and reconnect the phones. Which was the biggest defense they had against the dinosaurs. From that one scene I would have to say lex was the best one as she seemed to have tech skills in some kind of computer and was able to navigate a system she seemed never encountered but had enough skills to rival an adult. She did what the other adults fail to do. Tim was more the Dino expert even Lexi relied on because she didn’t have the same fascination like Tim and Allen did and I’m sure she would fear them forever

The thing that makes this movie so great is that the dinosaurs act like actual animals, instead of mindlessly chasing the humans like movie monsters. The dilophosaurus sizes up nedry, making sure he is a target before moving in for a kill. The trex focuses on the gallimimus meal instead of charging the humans. The raptors plan a coordinated attack on Muldoon. Things like this solidify this movie as my favorite film of all time.

It's also one of the reasons the effects still hold up to this day and are miles ahead of most Hollywood CGI creatures. The animators actually studied animal behavior and movement mechanics for this, making the animation that much more believable.

Why does this look more realistic than Jurassic World? Because the creators have thought about how the animals moved. You can see the mass of the tyrannosaurus in every move. Such a subtle and underrated moment in movie history. I just love how Rexy comes out of nowhere and grabs the Galli, while the rest of the herd are just trying to catch their breath, “Phew! At least weren’t not on the menu right now…..” it’s also really sad how the one Gallimimus that gets killed almost seems to cry and beg for it’s life after it’s knocked down before the Rex finishes her off with no mercy. Mother Nature…. Even 65 million years ago…. Lions do the exact same thing today with zebras. Nice little touch Spielberg added to this scene

That moment is kind of heartbreaking, but I would argue at that point, the Galli's death was a mercy; it was already terribly wounded by the Rexy's teeth, and would have died either way. Once she quickly finished it off, it's pain was over instead of having to suffer longer. But I definitely see your point!

You can also clearly see that with the different camera angles there's a lot of difference in sunshine intensity. From one side you see the grass glow in the sun with strong and contrasting shadows and from the other side there's almost no sunshine and shadows at all, revealing they had to do multiple takes at different times. The funny thing is that it still looks massively better than the CGI crap we get to see nowadays.

This scene was an important part for the movie. The first T. Rex attack made it look like a mindless monster, but this scene was a reminder that it is just an animal just looking for food, trying to survive.

New generation dinosaur movies should see this amazing masterpiece that satisfies the statement "old is gold". Because in this movie the Dino's act like actual animals and not only fake robots or some damn editing . The nature of all the animals is to avoid any fight with humans they want to stay away unless they are hungry . They don't chase and fight humans for fun as shown in many movies. And the logic is also very acurate . I mean that this movie wants to teach us about real dinosaurs and not about only silly and fake fights . The knowledge given is proper specially the T Rex acts like it is no doubt real. My mother first watched it in cinema hall when she was a college student and then told me about this movie . This movie is awesome.🤩🥰🥰🤩. This dinosaurs also look quite real and scary.

I never saw this before but seeing it HD you can really see the right toe/foot of the T.Rex wobble and morph when it grabs and eats the Gallimimus. Also if you look at in in 0.25 speed you can see the gallimumus that gets eaten jumping and halfway disappearing @1:20. Imperfections that can be forgiven as they were undoubtedly still learning as they went along. The fact that for a first full creature CGI movie they had the balls to do a scene like this in broad daylight is amazing.

The rendering is primitive, but they *feel* like real animals, made of bone and muscle. The movements, the head bobs, the weight distribution, the momentum. It's all spot on. In Jurassic World they're standard modern CGI: perfectly textured digital rubber dolls with uncanny valley physics.
