Your reactions went exactly how I expected…he was laughing at the absurdity and she was offended by the crassness. Perfect! I subscribed to your channel because of that honesty! This 1981 album, Dance with Me, by TSOL was the first record I ever bought with my own money back in ’84, I had just turned 13 yrs old. The musicianship of this band (Ron Emory is possibly the best guitarist from the 80’s era of punk) and the quality of the recording of this record allow it to hold up to this day. Code Blue itself is a whatever silly shock song, but like others have said in these comments, there are amazing songs on this record, the title track itself being my fav.

This year I started work at a new company. The boss is kinda a laid back dude, really into music, collects CDs and vinyl, listens to lots of different stuff, mostly 80's synthpop, but won't shy away from the occasional metal, rap, rock, whatever. He invites us to bring our music in to play at work. One coworker brought The Stranglers and the Talking Heads, so there was a nice vibe for some new wave goin' on. This one time I brought "Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols". Not the heaviest and most brutal of albums, right? Also kind of an entry point to punk, great production and great riffs, a great album. So he puts it on, goes about his business, and then halfway through he turns it off saying he was just shocked and couldn't focus at work. Like, seriously, The Sex Pistols made him unable to proceed with his day. This 40+ year old album shook this dude to his core, and we're talking about living in a world where heavier music (both musically and lyrically) is the norm. It's not even about the lyrics either, I live in Poland and my boss doesn't speak good English. It's just something about the band, the combination of these particular elements, that made him unseasy. Another time I brought "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" by the Dead Kennedys. He didn't stop it halfway, but also appeared uneasy, like he couldn't comprehend what he just heard. Usually after playing our personal albums that we bring to work, we have casual conversations about whether we liked them or not, etc. This time - dead silence, and he just switched over to the radio. So yeah, even after all those years there are still some people who are baffled and bamboozled when they hear good ol' punk.

That's so funny, especially since those bands tend to be more on the melodic side. I feel like so much music *tries* to go hard and be less palatable now and ends up being boring for it. There was something both appealing but also nerve-racking about old school punk. I remember as a teen, Op Ivy was the first "old" punk band I heard and I just had no classification for it. My idea of punk before that was this insurmountable idea of spit and snarl and completely indigestible noise. But then I heard Op Ivy and was like, this sounds bad by modern production standards but... I kinda like it. Pretty much dove in headfirst at that point, and I often forget how many people, including people who might like more modern, studio produced punk, may not have ever been exposed to the older stuff.

Okay so I ended up finding this because the band shared the video. And while I agree the song is crass (I mean it's 80s punk rock and it's also death rock at the same time, of course it'll be out there) I wouldn't say this song is super representative of the album (even though I do love this song, it's just super over the top). I can highly recommend trying out the other songs, even if it's not a reaction. The triangle is super good, dance with me (the song is great) and silent scream (which honestly is a better pick for a Halloween reaction) to me is a classic Halloween song. Please do check out the rest of the album even if this song wasn't for you

You could react to 100 more T.S.O.L. songs and you won’t run into another one with lyrics like that lol. They have some killer songs and they went through about 3 stages of sounds and 2 different lead singers. Dance With Me is a dark album but the other tracks don’t shock at all like that one. It’s a good album. My favorite album is Change Today, it came out in ‘84. A different singer. More hard rock but still with punk rock flavor but I love all their albums from the 80’s, both singers. Some fans are one or the other. Kinda ridiculous. Great songs throughout.
