We spent two days in the hot springs resort called Hakone, located just an hour by train from Tokyo. Hakone is a wonderful place to spend a couple days and away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.

Tips if you wanna go to Hakone: 1. BUY HAKONE FREEPASS. I cannot stress it enough, it is a pass for almost all transportation in Hakone. Hakone freepass for 2 days costs 4000 yen if you stopped in hakone, or if you are from shinjuku it costs 5140 yen. I didn't buy it and it costs me easily 4000 yen or so just for 1 day trip. Buy it, even if you only go for 1 day. Buses there will increase in price every few stations and if you go from one end to another it will costs you at least 1500 yen for 1 trip. and if you look at the video, you need to pay a lot of things such as rope way and ship, if you use hakone freepass, all of them are already included 2. Plan your day well, every one and each transportation takes very long time to arrive to their destination. the train easily takes 20-30 minutes, and that is only to the ropeway. ropeway takes another 30+ minutes because it is slow and very long. if you wanna do return trip like them with ship, it will take another few hours. if you go to gotemba, it will be like 3 hours or so. it is a lot of time wasted on journey. 3. some places that I did go last time (2 full days): A. Onsen: Hakone Kowakien Yunessun is an onsen with many different type onsen, they have coffee, tea, sake, etc onsen. if you don't mind being naked (and no, it is not mixed) I recommend naked one since it doesn't smell like swimming pool (because I am sure they put chlorine in their mixed non naked onsen area). The non naked onsen area feels very gimmicky, but the naked one is so good B. Gotemba: Gotemba is discounted premium brands factory outlet in the end of Hakone, it is super far, but you can find many premium brands at cheap price. Honestly, the only reason why I wanna go to Hakone is for this place lol C. the sulfur mountain 4. I would take at least 2 days here if you wanna see everything, everything in Hakone closes early, so go out early, and you need to be ready leaving to your hotel in Hakone or to Shinjuku by 5 or 6 in the afternoon. if you missed the last bus, your next best bet is taxi to the nearest train station

It was such a special trip to beautiful Hakone. I'm glad the two of you were able to enjoy so much delicious food, including the Owakudani eggs to extend your lives by 7 years! I send good wishes to you both. I heard snow was expected there, and I hope you are staying safe and warm at home. Hugs!

I am so homesick for my time in Japan. Thank you so much for the delightful memories of many, many happy trips to Hakone. From the Romance Car to the Hakone switch back train, cable car, gondola, ship, and I took the bus back to Odawara to catch the Odyku line to Hadano. Awesome memories. Great reminders of the black egg, Hakone wooden items. I even have my tea ceremony items made of Hakone wood. I can watch this again and again. Domo arrigato.

This video made my day. I did the same thing for my birthday and this brought back a lot of memories. I love Owakudani and the Lake Ashi cruise. Aside from my crappy ryokan, my only regret was not exploring the areas around Hakonemachi more. Caught the bus right after the cruise and should have taken more time to explore the area. The bus ride through the mountains was amazing in itself so I hope you guys got a chance to ride on it.
