Tablet Upgrade? Vehicle Mount Improvements

Small improvements to the current mounting system. Considering a tablet upgrade, S7+ or S8+?
This video shows me making a semi-custom magnetic tablet mount for a 2015 GMC sierra. Using vehicle specific hardware mounts and adding magnets purchased from amazon. This concept can work on any vehicle.

Cool concept. Not sure why you didn't just use something like Carmount mag mounts ? I used these in combination with Apples Smart folio case (I only used the mag part of the case) to mount an iPad Air 5 w/5G in my Equinox. So far, even on rough roads, the Air hasn't come off the folio, But I probably; just jinxed myself 🤣

Hey I hear you it would have been much easier I just don't trust them to hold up especially over the long term

Nice, been using tablets in cars for years, screen way better then what you get buying a aftermarket receiver. Also with the nova launcher, you can get rid of the top and bottom normal icons and date and time under gestures and input settings. Will make the screen more cleaner looking if you didn't know? Sure you know how, but if not I can point ya in the right direction if need be

That's a good idea, ill give it a try. I'm particularly worried about those because it's an OLED screen and I have a static image up for awhile sometimes. Don't want any burn in!

I am looking to do the same ,But i am going to use tablet wall mounts and incorperated into some wood, i love my Alpine 650 head unit,,found samsung s6 LTE for 250 amazon,,wall mount tablet holders are under 20 bucks.

That sounds like a good idea. I'm interested to see how it comes out the s6 lite is such a solid tablet for the money

Cool idea bro! If u get that larger tablet an it spans plastic to plastic, I know they sell some seriously heavy duty magnets, maybe glue magnet on backside of plastic an it might work. Also do u have any plans as to more incorporate the tablet software to your truck? As in maybe getting backup camera on it. I have a 2016 silverado an my backup camera sucked, so I pushed an HD camera. Can't recall the site but it was vehicle specific. Our screens are not HD, so while it's better, it's not like some vehicles backup I've seen. Let me know if u have any more good ideas. Nice work tho! Oh maybe paint those brackets! Just an idea

Hey thanks! Yeah looking at the S7+ or S8+ to cover the mounts. The black brackets are ferrous metal. I've tried the magnets behind and they do not have enough holding force. Also a magnet significantly stronger will likely interrupt the tablets operation. I don't plan on integrating the backup camera unless I could do it wirelessly. I really don't like the look of visible cables. If there is a way I would be interested!

@@miketips4188, ill let u know what i come up with. I do have a magnet I paid abt 25 bucks for, so I may try that an my hope is because it's behind the plastic, it won't be that bad. It sucks that to keep the factory look we would have to buy one of those Tesla style ones. So if I come up with something, I'll get back to you. Also do u have a sub box under your back seat?
