Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father's shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father's legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.
Taboo is created by Steven Knight with Tom Hardy and Chips Hardy, who is also the show’s consulting producer. Executive producers are Ridley Scott and Kate Crowe for Scott Free, Tom Hardy and Dean Baker for Hardy Son & Baker, and Steven Knight, with Timothy Bricknell producing. Taboo is directed by Kristoffer Nyholm (Eps. 1-4) and Anders Engström (Eps. 5-8), and reunites Hardy and Knight for their third collaboration following Locke and Peaky Blinders.

Tom Hardy is the best actor under 50 on the planet. His range is incredible and he takes his craft extremely seriously. For those who haven't seen him in Bronson, Peaky Blinders, Locke, The Take, The Drop and Warrior you will see the range I'm talking about. LOVE HIM

I've seen him in Bronson, The Drop, Mad Max, and The Revenant. He is pretty incredible, and markets himself well. I just hope he doesn't do the whole SJW PC preachy thing those in Hollywood are doing these days. I've almost checked out Locke a few times because it's free on Prime, but on paper it sounds boring. Although I'm sure he a creates a compelling character as always. I'll have to check out the others you mentioned as well.

This show was too good to not be continued. Even if it didn’t make the numbers they wanted in the beginning they had to know what masterpiece it is. And what can I say about Tom Hardy, another masterclass as always. So effortless and gritty with it, almost like all his characters are just different personalities of his and I’m not even gonna get into his range. But great actors perform well only when interacting with other great actors, I hated the sisters husband and even herself which means they played it perfectly.

This show was amazing. Great characters, dark, gritty, unapologetic, full of twists. I'm looking forward to season 2. I hope Tom Hardy decides to build more of a strong relationship between james and lorna. There's something there at least from her side that was working its way but never surfaced.

Yes of course there's an attraction there; she has her ways as an actress she uses in her craft in the story but also there is a deceptiveness there; why would she marry such an older man with such wealth knowing she would end up with it? Then she shows up as soon as the son reappears and holy - what a son!!!! She'd have to be dead not to react...lol. Of course this story is continuing - I will address the finally waited upon incestuous scene - notice how the act itself just wasn't - I mean Tom was acting his absolute disconnection - the torment of his spirit within - there was no joy, satisfaction nor release - she on the other hand her finally letting go by murdering the husband???? Hmmmm just not - I have no adjective to describe the psychological "happening of that moment of turmoil". Now we need to wait and see! Thanks.

Without Mad Men or Breaking Bad , Amc doesn't have any quality. sure the walking dead does big numbers but when its all said and done , we know it's garbage , it's fluff , it's mindless . I'd much rather watch a show like Mr.Robot, now that is good television.

+Abdul Sesay He said "right now". Mad Men and Breaking Bad both finished long ago and even at the time, they were the only two great shows on the network. Walking Dead has become formulaic and tired in it's past few seasons. The only good one worth notice is Better Call Saul. FX (including FXX) is currently one of the top tv powerhouses, and even Netflix is above AMC in terms of quality series. They have It's Always Sunny, The Americans, Fargo, The Strain, Archer, You're The Worst, Baskets, Man Seeking Woman, and American Horror Story with Taboo and Atlanta coming up, showing lots of promise.

Considering the glory days of Breaking Bad and Mad Men are gone and all they have left is Better Call Saul, it's not that hard to "kick AMC's ass" right now. Unless you actually consider TWD quality television. It's entertaining to watch at the very least but by no means in the same league as top tier television shows.

When I first sat and began watching this series by Tom I wasn't familiar with all of his work. After watching this I must admit to being inclined to see his full range of talents and that "aura" this intensity he exudes. While the other scripts, writers and ensemble on the sets he shared and worked in the past this one has all of what encompasses what we humans find fascinating, exciting, scary and tempting. Similar to what we often live with - a duality within. From the set design, the exact details of the era, the darkness of England at that time and the taking over of Vancouver also at that time;.from the clever script/writers which includes the behind the scenes and in front of the camera's huge talent being shared with all of us. From the deprivation to the exquisite tenderness of some moments. A constant ride never truly letting us in fully as to what will or could happen next. Watching this as I said the first time, I was able to follow and let myself go - without judgement or restraint. Looking forward to Season 2. Bravo to all concerned. A friend.

I will agree with you up to one point. If you notice the commercials with every series there are all American shows. Never did they play Taboos commercials at the time I watched it 2 yrs. ago!!! If we could view other series by the commercials why not Tom's series. That's my ? I believe I have formed my own opinion and will keep it to myself. With Netflix now he's being better served. Watched the first episode while I was in London and WOW, what a great series to bring to the US. Cheers FX! This will be the Best Tv Series in 2017 no question about it. Tom Hardy plays his best role to date. Great Great Great job on the show. I'll be watching every week 'Hooked'

A superb series with unremitting entwining of time and place seen through a glass darkly. There isn't a single character who isn't tainted by the devil and all the minor characters are sucked into the dark doings of the evil protagonists. Tom Hardy plays James Delaney magnificently and we must admire his strength and guile, even if he does use dark powers, but, in spite of this, hate him or loathe him, you just can't like him.
