Hi there, lately I have installed only 200 of these heaters, and every time it gets a little bit colder people call me to help them set up the heater for a colder house. So I thought it would be helpful to make this video about Setting up a Dimplex DuoHeat storage heater and put it out there to help others. I was concerned about the front GLP heat which I don't want, but you cleared that up more easier than the instructions, so leaving with blue LED on brilliant!

Thank you for this video it's almost making me understand their systems at my mum's. I am confused by the sockets next to each radiator. It has two switches, 1st is labelled 'On Peak Heater' and the 2nd is labelled 'Controller'. I never see any lights on the night storage unless I have the 1st switch on. With the 1st switch on I can do all the actions you explain in the video. However I don't want the radiator to use on peak power, I only want night storage. Will it only use on peak power if I change the bars to more than 1 when it's not flashing?

The way that I put it simply is that one is the 24 hour front panel heater and the brain of the system. The other is the night storage only and this gets turned on automatically via the meter and the different fuse box in your property Thanks for leaving a comment and I hope this has helped

Hi Karl, I have a question, I'm not sure if I have the 400 or 500 model, and have 3 heaters in my flat. All three have power to the storage and front panels, and they work overnight and when switched on, but none of the controls work, all I get when pressing either + or - buttons is a clicking noise, and no movement up or down. Have you come across this problem before? Many thanks.

I have four of these (independent) 400n heaters in a house and have a number of questions/issues... i) the background setting controls the level/amount of heat that is generated (and stored in the bricks) overnight but not the rate at which it is released during the day, correct? I think it is a simple case that if the bricks have greater heat stored in them overnight, they will remain warm longer into the day. ii) I've read that these heaters might have a thermostat in them than means the storage heating may not come on in 'milder weather'. If so, this could in theory mean some heaters come on while others don't (if there is a temperature difference between rooms). Is that correct and can this be controlled/overridden (i.e. to come on even when the weather is mild)? iii) one of the heaters (storage part) seems to be running very hot and stays very hot well into the day. Is it possible for the storage heating elements to become 'stuck' on? If so, is this likely to be an element, controller, thermostat or other issue? iv) two of the heaters are generating storage heat but the other two appear to have stopped working (although all panel heaters work). The two that aren't working also make a clicking noise for a few seconds after being switched-on at the wall, although it stops after a while. Could this be related and what could be the cause of the clicking noise (I think coming from the controller area)? Thanks.

Moved into a flat with two of these. When I hold down the button nothing flashes and there’s also no blue light. It also doesn’t do any sort of instant heat when I press the plus button. There’s a thermostat on the wall which I think is broken as nothing comes on the screen. I left it on overnight to see if it charges but it didn’t work at all

Hello we've moved into an old property with what must be the earliest release of DuoHeat as there is no frost symbol on the membrane. After much searching I believe this is the 'I' model which has a key symbol not a padlock symbol ('N' model). Have you ever come across these, and do they have a reset button? Thank you.

+Gary Coburn Have you changed energy tariff or energy suppliers. As in the past they don't update the system that sends out a single to your meter to turn on and off. Failing that check fuses and switch in fuseboard are all on. If yes then call your supplier and tell them your "RADIO TELESWITCH" is faulty and needs replacing as this is the part that receives the signal to turn your fuseboard on and off and we're put in yonks ago. Hope this helps

Hi Karl, I am new to this heating system. I can really do all what you explained the only problem is I don't know which switch to turn on, I have three switches, one with a light on which is the main power and then two other switches with no lights on. Don't know which to leave on for the storage heater. I tried last night with all on but no heat in the morning, do I need to do anything in the morning to get the heat from the storage heater or will the heat come out automatically?

JOYCE AFRAKOMA OBENG where about are you based? You could need a visit from an electrician to verify that the fuse or mcb in the fiseboard is intact also any fuses within the switches you have near the heater, the final thing they can check is that a little device in the heater called a thermal cutout has not operated. This device stops the hearer overheating if the front grill is covered or furniture is too close.

Hi +Fritz Fonane thank for your comment yes keep the switches all on this way when the system want to it can turn on the heater and you can just forget aboit it all. (Set and forget) The heater will control the supply from the off peak switch which is on and ready for the radio teleswitch to turn on the supply to the part of the fuse board marked off peak. Which in turn supplies the switch with energy. The electric supply heats the elements which inturn heats the iron filings within the bricks this stores the heat. This continues until the supply is cut by the radio teleswitch receiving the off single from the EDF Network. The heat then radiates from the heater whilst the electric is off. Off peak electric is cheapper in most cases. Hope this helps. Please like our Facebook page and keep upto date with electrical tips and tricks search TackElectrical

I have another question about the controller. The instructions that I have say that the heating comes 'on' between 7 and 9 in the morning and 8 to 10 at night. But this is not the night storage hours. What does it mean by 'on'? Does it mean that during these hours the front element will be heated by the heat in the back storage blocks?
@KarlBrooks-Tack-Man
@KarlBrooks-Tack-Man 3 жыл бұрын
This means the front comfort panel will use peak rate electricity £££ The controller has a control circuit that runs to the heaters, this can be turned off from each heater meaning it is not on manual control and will not be operational ie will not operate at the times the controls tell it to turn on. This gives you the control to save money and leave the stored heat to be omitted into the room instead.

Hi Gareth. Thank for leaving a comment and sorry it taken a week to come back to you! There is no way of controlling the air flow through these heaters there is no manual metal flap at the top like other heaters on the market. All you can do is the turn the maximum setting and when it cools. Turn on the front panel to compensate.

Is That Me Yeah yes on the older models the one single red light means the heater front panel is in the off position and the this was later changed to a blue light because of the confusion, so don’t feel bad lots of people had this complaint in the earlier model 🙂

Hi Karl, Loads problems heater, electrician very patronising! He say it's not working cos it's set on 1, I had not touched it since last electrician took panel off 10 days ago and reset it! So how did it go from working okay, then stopped and ended up on setting of 1? Then he set it on front panel I wanted it on back panel, he say its on back panel now, but I will order you a new one, take 2 months can't get them, or parts! As when he orders it, they make me 1 heater at factory build it?? I'm sure they must have a newer model that updates the douheat 500n! Rang dimplex they say stockists all over UK, some have 50 to a 100, some less! What new one will replace this one? Is it Quantum. Thanks Su

stefandziwak thanks for your message.... if you have other storage heaters and they are working. It could be the fuse in the switch or at the fuseboard. If you have no other heaters it could be the Radio Teleswitch read comments below for other peopl I have helped with this issue. Another issue is whether you've changed supplier in the last couple of months and haven't activated your Economy 7 signal that the radio tele switch will received turn on the storage heaters Hope this helps!!

Mellissa Elliott The rear of the heater heats up overnight on the off-peak supply and then gives out heat during the day with the front panel off so although the blue lights on the heat is actually coming from the energy stored last night I hope this answers your question. Yes that is correct if you turn off both switches the heater will be okay whilst it’s off however when you re-energise the heater set the night storage heater to its lowest level so that it slowly burns off dust that has built up over the summer months then on the second night turn it up to halfway then on the third night turn it up to where you want it in doing this you will stop the overheat of the thermal cut out within the unit. I hope that all sounds okay

Please make sure both external switches are on? Check the trip switches in the fuseboard? Have you got any other storage heaters that are working? These questions are important as it will point us in the right direction

Tack Electrical Tack Electrical All switches are on and none appear working. I’ve checked fuse and rang my supplier- all ok. I definitely don’t need the comfort on to get the background heat do I? Also my programme/controller on the wall is just set to sun (comfort) mode so no programme in place stopping it

Hi, does anyone know what time the heat comes on once the storage heater has been set up?
@KarlBrooks-Tack-Man
@KarlBrooks-Tack-Man 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there the time is set by the supply company that sends a signal out to your radio telly switch normally around 12 midnight could be any time up until 1:30 am and then will switch off around 6:30 am normally hope this answers your questions Sometimes if the storage heater fails to work it is due to the radio TeleSwitch be in faulty

I have 2 switches on the wall, one brings the lights on the other doesn’t. What’s the difference?
@KarlBrooks-Tack-Man
@KarlBrooks-Tack-Man 2 жыл бұрын
One is on the mains 24/7 supply on all day and night, the other is only switched on between midnight and 6am by a special switch in your meter. Both should remain on for the heat to operate correctly 😀

Of course, we can discuss the price for your service. Alternatively, how much would you charge to come out to Grays, Essex?
