Hello on a 09 4x4 Silverado oil pan removal do you need to take front deferential out to get pan out.
@Claybaby1992
@Claybaby1992 7 ай бұрын
@@JM-we8qxI know this is an old comment but you do in fact have to remove the front diff. I just did mine in my driveway 2 weeks ago and it was a hell of a job but it’s doable if you have the strength to press that diff back into place and hold it there while you bolt it back in.

Great video!! Here is a tip: whenever you do your oil pan gasket, always do your oil pickup tube o ring. Its literally 2 more bolts. I have seen many 4.8/5.3 “killed” because this 2$ o ring failing. Make sure you get the right one for your application.

I'm doing mine this weekend on the wife's 2008 Tahoe, but I'm dropping the oil pan to install a AFM oil deflector under the pressure relief valve but I'm gonna go ahead and replace the pressure relief valve too, plus go ahead and put a new oil pick up tube o ring in there. There is a GM service bulletin on the 07-14 Tahoe, Yukon, Escalade, Avalanche, Silverados etc.. with an oil consumption problem due to the PCV system on the driver side valve cover and they have a updated valve cover to replace the old style but that's only half the problem, the other half is to drop the oil pan and install the AFM oil deflector under the pressure relief valve so the oil is directed towards the bottom of the pan instead of getting picked up by the crankshaft and slinging it up on the cylinder walls mainly cylinder #1 and #7 burning a lot of oil and fouling the spark plugs out and cracking them. Came out with AFM for fuel economy purposes but it's nothing but CRAP!!!!

I seen in another video about a deflection shield you should put on the AFM valve. It was on a 5.3L engine. GM P/N 12639759. Is this something all engines for these year models need or just the 5.3L. I’m asking because I’m about to change my gasket on a 4.8L and want to take care of it all while I have it apart. What else is worth changing while you have the pan off?

My think is I dropped very little blue towel piece while cleaning the CS position sensor, while doing the intake work. Engine still ok pressure increased by 10 but no issues. Oil change didn't solve it. Eventfully I have to remove the pan and check the pickup tube for any signs.

Great video man I just recently changed out my cam and put a BTR one where you don’t have to upgrade the converter. Put new springs, rods, lifters oil pan and gasket (not the green one as I’ve read) and I still have low oil pressure. Prior to messing with it it had just about 22 warm and about 38 or so on the highway. Now it’s sitting at about 10 or 15. If you have any advice on what to try or do different I’d appreciate it. Been following pretty much everyone else the whole time and have come up short. This is my first time building anything and I’ve done good with everything else just can’t get the oil pressure under control

Oil pan bolts is 108 inch lbs more oregano less 8 foot lbs. especially on the two long back ones. They screw into the rear splash plate that holds the rear main seal. If you over torque them you will pull that splash shield down misaligning the rear main seal causing another leak. It may not happen right then but with driving bumps and vibration it is going to happen if you over torque the rear long oil pan bolts. I would say using the impact you put at least 20 fibs on them wich is slightly over double the manufacturer specified torque value.

I used red RTV on my oil pan on an LS rebuild. After more reading, I have come to believe I probably should have used black. Couple questions for your opinion: (1) Should I change the RTV color to black? Also, the [Fel-Pro] oil pan gasket I used is brand new other than being installed. The engine is still sitting on the stand "dry" other than assembly lube on necessary components. (2) If changing the RTV color is necessary, can I clean off the red RTV, and reinstall using black RTV with the existing new gasket? Or should I replace the oil pan gasket as well?

Make sure to loosen steering rack and then remove the right bolt and nut to allow pan clearance. 22mm for those. Torque those bolts to 80 ft lbs, cross member horizontal bolts to 70 ft lbs-vertical bolts to 40-45.

@@JaboTheMechanic yes sir doing my rear main and oil pan tomorrow. I worked at a shop for a few years it's been awhile though. It's rediculous the amount of work you GTA do for a ten minute repair or replacement lol alot better than paying somebody an arm an leg though.

Yes i agree with you on that! I believe it. Quote 9hrs for the rear main. I did one. I have a video on how to set up the rear main seal to make it last a long time! It was for a pontiac firebird same set up. Good luck with the job though

The 2 15 mm go in second to align oil pan. Right after you snug your first two 10 mm
@myfalconry76
@myfalconry76 4 ай бұрын
They are not to align it but it helps they are to prevent the possible misalignment of the rear main seal by over torquing the long 10mm bolts. Wich will happen anyway if you go double the manufacturer torque specs as this guy did.

Awesome video brother! What kind of leak do you see with this failure? I have a very small drip on my floor and it is settling on the rear of the oil pan. It almost looks like a rear main seal leak and I am hoping to God it is not the rear main seal. I was told that there is a cap or lid there near the bell housing that you can pop that off to verify if it the rear main or not but I have not popped that off to look yet. Also mine is a 4WD 2008 suburban. It looks very much like what you just worked on but Is the 4WD much harder? Is working with the 4WD version of this something the do it yourselfer can do?
@JaboTheMechanic
@JaboTheMechanic 4 жыл бұрын
Yes there is a lid but the pan can still leak in the bellhousings. For the 4wd its not that bad just a few extra steps. Unbolt passenger cv axle, unbolt 4wd housing bolts its 4 bolts 4wd housing will lower just enough for you to sneak out the pan

In your experience with these vehicles has the rear main seal been a problem or is it likely the oil pan gasket. I hate it because where the leak is....could be either! I know the oil pan gasket will be the cheaper attempt of the two.
