Taiji Zen Master Instructor Wang Zhanhai's father, Wang Xi'an, from Chen village demonstrates some awesome Tai Chi applications.
Tai Chi Chuan is mostly famous for its graceful slow movements and its many health benefits. Grandmaster Wang show clearly in this clip how Tai Chi Chuan also is a highly effective martial art. All the slow moves from the Tai Chi form all have martial applications.

I like these kinds of demonstrations. Accepting challenges from any martial artist from any style. No qi tests or no touch knockouts. Just clever physics. About using tai chi in a street fight - to be honest, the other benefits offered by tai chi are way more useful in everyday life and will give you tremendous benefit. How often do you get in a street fight? Unless you go looking for one it's not often. Having peak physical and mental performance is way more useful. Not even considering the spiritual growth you go through too.

this is the way you end the fight quickly with less time and energy, that is martial art. street fight and fighting championship is totally different, there is no rule out there in the street. you better forget mma or any else shit because it depends by the practicioner not the martial arts they practice.

If you look at the last part of the video, where a guy sort of provoke the guy in black, it's already very close to a realistic situation. You don't get random people wanting to hit you all the time, usually it starts from this kind of provoking movement. And that's probably the old guy's student, so you can naturally assume that the old guy must be able to do it better.

Some of yall really lack depth of perception if you cant see the real world applications you should look into it more. wresling,judo,thiji are all similar if not different names for the same thing, all it is is useing your oponents weight and center of balance against them, its about grapling and the physics of it. And obviously thiji like any other singular figting styles have advantages and disadvantages hence the name mma (weed out the weaknesses and adopt the strengths) if you want to learn how to use devistating strikes learn boxing or mui tai or something meant for strikeing not for grapaling or evasion. In my life experience theres half bull shit and half truth in everything and thats why you should think about it rather than jumping to conclusions

Hello 🙋 someone who trained in tai chi for a decade here. It’s not jumping to conclusions to call out techniques that won’t work. You won’t see wrestlers or judoka using these sorts of techniques for a very valid reason. They require a compliant opponent who doesn’t fight back for them to work

Most people here don’t understand that Taiji is actually a grappling art that addresses the issue of striking. But not mystical power nor anything. It’s just some form of wrestling. And by the way it shares lots of the principles and techniques with Greco Roman wrestling. Like some hip throws, shoulder throws, foot sweeps and even the famous arm drag to a back take like in Greco. There are some vids on KZfaq that show some Taiji wrestling and competitions. It is just some form of wrestling. And by the way people think it is called TaiChi when it is Taiji. Some people added the mysticism shit into it.

Witcher it’s just pronunciation, the spelling doesn’t matter that much...I use to hear a master call it taiqi. There’s mysticism because there’s a LOT of secrets in the taiji/Kung fu culture. Maybe it has to do with an oppressive government I’m not sure. But that’s what contributed to a lot of BS being spread around the world. Even take someone like Cheng Man Ching....this guy had “it”. But 95% of his students were just taught forms and how to move around in a useless manner.
@indefenceofthetraditionalma
@indefenceofthetraditionalma 3 жыл бұрын
Just because you heard Ramsey Dewey call it a grappling art, that doesn’t make it so. It’s a complete system with strikes and grappling. It’s just that there are so few real teachers left
@alafifi101
@alafifi101 3 жыл бұрын
@@indefenceofthetraditionalma no that’s not true, it’s not a complete martial art. Try to strike only with tai chi strikes against someone using a striking art and you will see what will happen. Try to use tai chi using grappling only against a specialist in some grappling art and you will be demolished.
@indefenceofthetraditionalma
@indefenceofthetraditionalma 3 жыл бұрын
@@alafifi101 awful logic. That’s like saying an mma fighter isn’t complete because if they entered a grappling match against Gordon Ryan then they’d lose. Getting out struck? Then grapple. Fighting a better grappler? Then strike. I’m not pretending that practicing tai chi chaun is going to make you a better fighter than if you train mma but to make out it’s just a grappling art, when that is clearly not the case, is just silly
@alafifi101
@alafifi101 3 жыл бұрын
@@indefenceofthetraditionalma Do you think you can use tai chi striking only in a fight? That’s what I meant by calling it not a complete martial art. Try to use tai chi striking only in a fight. And you will see where that will get you. But you can totally use striking only or grappling only as an MMA fighter. And there are strikers in MMA who beat some of the best kickboxers. And there are some grapplers in MMA that actually took gold medals in multiple international championships. For example like Israel Adysanya who was a kickboxing champion. And like Gilbert Burns who won international Jiu Jitsu championships multiple times. Yet he is a very good striker. Try that with Tai Chi. Don’t make it specific about Gordon Rayan.

dada8800 This is already disrespectful enough. I bet you don't know that there are four Tai Chi Grandmasters in China. Xi'an Wang is one of them, and he is famous for his particular emphasis on real fighting. He trained his son, Zhanjun Wang, into the national Tai Chi contest champion. This video shows no more than 0.0000001% of what he's got. You probably need an ambulance standing by before you start a street fight with him.

Its always comes down to the practioner, not usually the style or art. Ten boxers may train at same gym, same coach, same hours, they will be 10 individuals, with all levels of talents and abilities. Some people never study shit and have natural fighting skills and kick ass. This is just a demo of 10 different things to show some training methods, nothing more, not exactly how they would fight etc... It's like watching a boxer skipping, doing sit-ups, stretching, jogging and saying, "That would be useless in the ring" Open your mind a little. A two year old can punch a grown man in the nuts and drop him in agony.
