I as a 4 yr old was in Chittagong. We escaped i think in April of 71 on a ship to save our lives. Though overall it is clear that east Pakistan was right and west was wrong... Unfortunately Pakistan still have not learned the lesson ...

Very sincere effort and is true to humanity without being anti Pakistan. If we think sensibly it will be so clear that both India and Pakistan are basically of same stock who should be working together to support each other instead of getting exploited by people of different ethnic stock like China or European/USA /Russia ...May Allah the almighty grant us the wisdom to realize this sooner and find a way to join hands without the feeling that we are losing our freedom choices for our own way of life with respect for others having the same..woh subah kabhi to ayegi...

I am very happy to have just watched all the parts of this very informative KZfaq Video, even with my limited Urdu. My heartiest thanks to Dr. T. Rahman. As a Bangladeshi living in the US, but was a witness to those atrocities as a small boy, I loved Dr. Rahman's compassionate and accurate view of that tragic history while him being a Pakistani. He is completely honest and puts in objective analyses based on facts and authoritative sources. I wish there were more people like Dr. Rahman during 1947 and 1971 who could have averted those tragedies. I lost three close relatives: My uncle, a DMD of PIA who contributed so much to PIA, one first cousin, and another husband (Military Colonel and Doctor) of my cousin. All were killed by the Pakistani Army in 1971 because they were Bengalis. However, I do not keep any hatred against anyone-- Pakistanis, Indians, Jews, Israelis, Ahmedis, British who ruled us, and powerful Americans. We must forgive all and move on. One thing I will point out is that if anyone asks me one word to describe why Bangladeshis disliked Pakistanis and broke away from it, it will be "Attitude". In addition to racism, religion was also used by Middle Eastern mindset Pakistanis (Not Shia or Ahmedi Muslims, though. For disclosure, I am a Sunni.) to denigrate Bengalis who are closer to the Asiatic/ Hindu culture. Dr. Rahman put it nicely at the end, "Where was compassionate politics"? To Dr. Rahman: Please also take into account Sharmila Bose's book "Dead Reckoning" for the number of people killed by the Pakistan Army. Her brother might be married to Dr. Ayesha Jalal. So she had access to Pakistan files. Also. you could indicate job disparity. My father was a member of E. Pak Civil Service (EPCS) and showed me a Civil List which showed even in E Pakistan, there were more non-Bengali Civil Servants. That also had to do with the fact that there were fewer educated Muslim Benglis compared to Urdu Speaking migrants to Pakistan. Very nicely explained all the concepts. I am truly humbled that this series clear my perceptions on two major issues. 1. The idea of independence from West Pakistan was a conspiracy by the Bengali people and they were not ready to live with us from day one. Now its cleared that was the result our mistakes and brutal decisions imposed on Bengali people. 2. If your political parties and institutions are weak than military is the ultimate solution to strengthen the country. Hamood ur Rehman commission report clear that point as well. I was a prisoner of the Bangladesh independence war in 1971. A member of Mukti-Bahini.

Sir, thank you for sharing the story of 1971. I'm a son of a freedom fighter, and grandson of a retired connel from EPR. My mom's family is full of freedom fighter, they moved to Dhaka after my grandfather retired from pakistan's military around 1960s. My mother's elder brother was born in Lahore but he was one of the student killed by pakistan's military in Dhaka, even though, he told the military who he was, a muslim and his father was a retired officer. They hung his body upside down after death because he was Bangali. So my other uncle joined the freedom fighters to gain freedom for Bangladesh. Pakistan's military Raped and Killed MILLIONS of Bangali people, we know the history. They sabotage every where, killed unarmed people ruthlessly. Our rivers in Bangladesh were full of blood and dead bodies. Our freedom fighters fought pakistan's military any way they could to win the war. Pakistan finally surrendered with 95 thousands pakistan's trained arm soldiers. Still today, people all around Bangladesh have the night mare of what pakistan's military did in Bangladesh. Its unforgettable for many people. We respect you for not hiding the truth entirely. Just want to THANK You for finally talking about it to pakistan's people and making them aware of what happened. Because many people in pakistan has no clue of what really happened. So again thank you from Bangladesh for telling the truth to pakistan's people. Peace be on you. Bangladesh Jindabad...

when i see and hear people like you, it gives hope that pakistan has hope. admitting past mistakes is first step to moving on to finding current mistakes. bangladesh has managed to move on and is at the beginning stage of becoming a economic power. bangladesh holds no grudges, but its whole identity is linked to the pakistani era past and its rather dark. a state level simple admittance of mistake can begin new chapter in history for both countries. its not that we'll suddenly become friends; theres too much complicated geopolitics about, but both countries can work on shared interest.

You have cronologically and very efficiently covered all the root causes of separation of pakistan. The lecture has logically unvailed all the aspects, like social, economic, politics etc. It would be more enriched if you could mention discrapency in employment of west and east pakistani personnel in govt, civil and military services. Over all it is a commendable job you have done. I had lots of pakiistani friends. They are very cordial, cooperative, affectionate and lovely pesonnels. But I observed that pakistanies are less interested to know the history. This is my personal observation. Thank you again.

It is a common phenomenon to examine the accuracy of any such works which try to describe the reasons behind our liberation struggle is to put it under a test of 4 factors. Nationalism, Democracy, Secularism and Socalism- the four pillers of our constitution. This series fulfills all the 4 factors. For socialism- it shows the economic exploitations from the very root cause, adoption of naked capitalist principles at the very begining of Pakistan. nationalism- it shows the validity of the position of nationalism inside an (ought to be) religious confedaration like Pakistan, democracy- the bad impact of military dictatorship is almost illustratively described here affirmimng Hamudur R.'s opinion. secularism- although poorly addressed but at least the reasons behind Bengali politics being more secular in nature is described here. So, I personally found your work quite exhaustive, within its limitations of course.... Dispensing gratitude from Bangladesh.

The biggest lesson the whole of subcontinent irrespective of any religion can learn from violence during partition in 1947, kashmir problem, operation bluestar in golden temple, east pakistan crises, is the political party and the common man should be shown high level of responsibility to maintain the peace and stability of the society. We must respect each other's sentiments.

The main reason for the break up of Pakistan was that Pakistanis did not respect Bengalis. They did not want to give them their fair share. Bengali officers were not recruited in the armed forces in proportion to the population. Education did not contribute to the development of health and social infrastructure. Foreign currency was used to make mills and factories in West Pakistan by selling Bangladeshi tea jute. And the biggest reason is the inability to hand over power to the elected representatives

Bangabondhu tried to permanent Pakistan by based on lahor regulations. Yes.... ! Even Bangabondhu declared the independence after 25 march army attack...... We can not blame Mujib for breaking up pakistan .its the vutto's did as well as Mr Yaahiyaa khan. ...... In our Bangladesh we were poor before 71.... And after war we became the poorest as you mentioned. In that poorest position there were no food, clothes. So the leadership was not worked... In this time Bangobondhu alonge with his family killed... Pakistan (our willing country in 47) treated with ours as a step son... You know... Even after war they blame ours. We are a kind nation..... If pakistan wanted apology then you remember that we are so kind. We have no hatred fo common people of pakistan (our formar country) But we faced the bloody reality. From বাংলাদেশ।

it is clear that on 3.12.1971, Pakistan attacked India and war started. Bhutan was the first country to recognise Bangladesh.

We Bangladeshis can never forget what happened in 1971. But if Pakistan wants to improve relations with Bangladesh in the future, it is being heard now that Pakistan wants to improve relations with Bangladesh. Then Pakistan should first of all apologize to Bangladesh. Which Pakistan has never wanted on its own.

A great anaylysis of the fall of Dhaka in all these episodes, Sir. The East Pakistan fell because of constitutional breakdown, economic collapse and political disintegration. First the one Unit Act should never have been brought. It should never have been revoked suddenly in 1969. Even we violated the 1962 constitution when power was transferred to Yahya Khan. I hope all these lectures are carefully watched by army officers and the families of army officers.

The fact that a vast amount of your people are still ignorant about our liberation war explains the mindset up of Pakistan. As someone has already said, you're doomed to repeat the same thing if you don't learn from your history.

What ever happened in November, should have happened in March Or April 1971 , in that case life and tragedies could be avoided. As I realized that Bangladesh was destined so less violence would be better option.
