True story. Mid 80s. I'm playing bass in a bar band. Supertramp is in Cleveland for a concert. About midnight people start requesting Supertramp songs, which we don't do. I look over at the bar and see John Helliwell at the bar. I say; hey, that guy knows some Supertramp. Turns out the whole band was there. Came up on stage. Owner locks the doors. We're doing shots and hanging/jamming with the band. We're there till like 5AM. A memory I'll never forget. Thanks, guys, for the reaction. Peace out.

Love them all, but Even In The Quietest Moments is my favorite album, with Crime a close 2nd. Just an amazing band. I wish Roger would allow them to reform and tour together after next year when concerts come back, but he seems content on his own. I wanna see Roger and Rick tour together again! Them and Pink Floyd could never get passed their differences, which was a shame for live music.

Boys, this was my song. I was leaving a job that was killing me (under appreciated and over burdened) and heading home to a loveless marriage. I'd always stop and grab a cup of tea (wanting something stronger) and drive down to the beach, and watch the world go by before I had to leave. I'd think about the things that I could have, or should have been. Then my wife would call and ask if I was almost home yet. Bubble burst.

The summer of 1979. I remember it well. Bad Company just put out their album "Desolation Angels" and Supertramp came out with "Breakfast in America". These two albums were all over the radio, especially "Breakfast in America". They had four US radio hits reach the charts on it. The Logical Song #6, Take the Long Way Home #10, Goodbye Stranger #15 and the title track Breakfast in America #62. This is a Classic album. Roger Hodgson has a unusual but great voice. Y'all should purchase it.

I guess ya had to be there... Imagine growing up in the late 50’s, 60’s and 70’s when new genres of music were coming out every 2 or 3 years. Supertramp’s Breakfast in America was one of those really big moments for me when a band is going beyond guitars, synths, drums, etc., and introducing French horns, tuba’s, clarinet’s in a new type of pop music. What a great time to grow up musically. Really glad to hear new generations appreciating Rush, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, etc. Great job!

The genius behind this song is the layers all working together, especially during the chorus. The singer is singing one melody, the piano is playing another, and then the strings are playing yet another. The bass jumps between the three. All three play together at the same time and just fit like a glove. You can listen to just one layer and see how it blends with the others. That's a great arrangement.

Supertramp is such a cool band. My favorite “Supertramp” memory was from a concert where they didn’t even play. It was a Texxas Jam in the late 70s in the summer - well over 100° on the floor of the Cotton Bowl. Van Halen had just finished their set, it’s mid-afternoon and set changes are taking forever. VH got everyone so pumped, but there’s a huge energy letdown. Then a dude breaks out his harmonica and plays the intro to Take the Long Way Home. Got everyone re-energized and soon after, Boston took the stage. I think of that every time I hear the song.

I have had the extreme pleasure of seeing Supertramp “The Tramp” LIVE 3 times. Their music is pure brilliance from each member of the group. Rick Davies - My Favorite Piano/Keyboard Player. John Helliwell - Favorite Sax player. Roger, Bob and Dougie are all awesome. Their Live shows are spectacular. I only put Pink Floyd (4 times) one place higher for their shows.

This should be mandatory study for audio engineering training. The mix on this is amazing. I could mention no less than 15 specifics of how brilliantly this is produced - especially the high-pass-EQ-Compression on vocals allowing the harmonies to come through the mix without sacrificing the presence and punch of the other contributions - genius mix IMHO.
