They went into business together. No one forced her to do anything. She isn't a helpless little lamb. She came up to him and told him what she wanted. Plaintiff was a gullible fool blind to the way the defendant was using him. However, once the romance is over the work he was doing unpaid as part of his dream of a future together does not suddenly become an hourly rate. If he had not been dipping his wick in the hot wax he might have had a valid legal argument, but by sleeping with her, and eating the breakfasts and dinners she was making for him he abandoned any notion that he was employed under an enforceable contract. It is a matter of the way the law works. I feel sorry for the guy, because he was unashamably used. But just like in a divorce, after the breakup you cannot go back and put an hourly rate on every mowed lawn, or meal cooked. It just doesn't work that way. It is no different for her to decide to charge him rent for the time they were together, and charge storage fees for his clothes and shoes being there while they slept together. The law does not allow for that kind of converting a relationship into a paying job or landlord/tenant. In throwing around the accusation of misandry when the law does not permit her to put an hourly rate on his work in this situation, you kind of make yourself appear a bit misogynistic.

It bugs me a bit that the Judge ruled that he had NO contribution to the property because he didn't put any money into it. It seems reasonable to me for a partnership to have one person front the money and the other do the work. Maybe not 50/50, but it could be a partnership. That said, I DO believe he did the work for love and not partnership.
