Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

Those are some good looking border collies. I had a border collie when growing up and she was a great cattle dog never any formal training on rounding up cattle or if someone left a gate open she would hard gate till we got gate closed and even she was very protective over us kids if dad was wrestling with us she would nip him to tell him it wasn’t right

You could zip tie them together in the middle to keep them in place.

As an OK State alum, I can’t tell you how much I’m glad Underwood lost. But alas, I do think there isn’t anyone going to beat Purdue. Their big guy is a man among boys. I’m shocked you didn’t know about the bypass tube. I’ve had one for years.

Looks like u need 2 of those jump hoses if the hose that plugs is feeding 2 rows. Thats a helpful tip.

@aTrippyFarmer I'd be interest to know if that jumper hose would work on a split row planter with jumper hoses already on every row. Could u provide seed to 3 rows from a single bulk tank hose by using 2 y jumpers?

Durameter makes a 3” meter that I’ve heard is a lot better. I’ve got one in the shop to try on my new tender this year. Another thing I plant to get is an accuvolume for in the sprayer tank whenever I trade sprayers

Just curious of the dimensions on your storage shed? It sure doesn’t seem that big until you start pulling equipment in and out. Looking forward to your spring videos.

the rows look very narrow compared to what we had on farm in iowa on the 60,s
@aTrippyFarmer

No easy answer. Always depends on field size and road travel. It wouldn't be hard to get 500 acres per day per planter.

when opening and closing the planter do you have to put the tractor in gear or neutral and let the planter push/pull you ??
@agger838
@agger838 2 ай бұрын
Neutral. Older case planters u have to reverse and planter has brakes you set
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer 2 ай бұрын
Yes. You want it to be in neutral so the unfold process is done with the least amount of resistance possible. The planter often pushes/pulls the tractor.

Hi from oz andy. If i only put 350 hours on a tractor per year i would call that a small year. Ive put 3600 hrs over three years onto my current tractor.

On our farm, we got an 8235r and it’s our only mfwd tractor, we put around 600 a year or so on it doing everything from mowing barditches to running our wheat drill. We do got 2 smaller tractors, but sometimes it’s just easier to get the big tractor out.
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer 2 ай бұрын
Farmers in the midwest tend to overinvest in equipment to reduce the risk of not getting spring crops planted. Our tractors also don't do a lot of small tasks. The planting tractors don't mow or run augers. The 8R370 pulls the grain cart in the fall, so that puts more hours on.
