How can you easily talk about the weather in English, a common topic of small talk conversations?
For example, if I ask you to describe the weather where you live today, what would you say?
Is it sunny? Or rainy?
Yes, you can use windy, rainy, snowy, and sunny words.
But you already know there are different kinds of rain, for example.
- Hard rain (downpour)
- Soft rain (drizzle)
And sometimes the sun can be beautiful. Other times it's TOO MUCH!!!
What words can you use to describe those differences in weather? How can you be more precise when you talk about the weather?
The answer: Use advanced weather vocabulary!
Advanced doesn't mean it's hard. It means you have MORE words to describe the weather and you can be more precise.
In this Confident English lesson, you'll learn weather words we use to describe
- Sun
- Wind
- Clouds
- Rain
- Snow
And then you can immediately practice with me. I have a couple of pop quizzes and some challenge questions for you.
You'll be ready for your next conversation about the weather in small talk.

Hi... Indeed, you're an excellent , professional teacher that leading us with patiently. Here is my practice scenarios: 1, It's truly that Singapore's climate in March, April & May etc, are pretty humid, scorching, sweltering & even harsh than ever, so mostly at weekends' afternoon, I'm decided to hit the hay instead of going out. 2, In November, December & January etc. The climate in Singapore hard to be predictable, sometimes, it's bright & clear, but mostly the sky is overcasting, seems look like threatening, later will be having a downpour, so normally I'll prepare my weapons like raincoat or umbrella in case I'm still at the workplace, but if not working, normally I'll stay at home & watch the drama from you-tube.

Great lesson with lots of vocabulary to describe weather. The first video I watched on this channel and I was very impressed with the way this vocabulary was presented. I live in Toronto, Canada, and the most severe weather conditions I have experienced are rain and snow in winter, which lasts for six months. Currently, it is rainy and cloudy. It has the highest of 30 degrees. Sometimes, I have learned many things from you.

Excellent lesson with lots of vocabulary for describing the weather. First video I watched on this channel and I am super impressed by the way this vocabulary is presented. I live in Munich, Germany and the most extreme weather conditions I have experienced is downpour over several hours. We do not have extreme weather conditions in the winter like some parts of the United States experience from time to time, especialy on the east coast in winter.

Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad to hear you found the lesson helpful. For a few years I lived in Karlsruhe and, like Munich, I don't recall particularly extreme weather in winter but I do remember some rather long days of heavy rain.

Here where I live the seasons are not the typical four seasons people think about... We basically have only a wet season, with heavy rain for a couple of months straight and then a very long period of drought . During the drought season the humidity is also really low
