Easily discuss the pros and cons of a difficult decision or a policy in English
In English we say it’s important ’to weigh the pros and cons’ to make the best decision. In this lesson, you’ll add advanced-level vocabulary to your English with a list of synonyms for the words ‘pro’ and ‘con.’ This vocabulary will allow you to be more precise in your language when you speak.
Plus, you’ll learn common sentence starters with examples so you can adapt what you learn in the lesson to your own conversations in English.

I loved your way of teaching vocabulary. We learn many words and expressions that are related. The main reason I'm in favor of learning this way, it's because you give us many options to express an idea without sounding monotonous.

Dear Annemarie, tks for this great lesson. My "pros and cons" example relates to one of my biggest passion: travelling. There are so many reasons why I am in favor of making luggages and go to new places but the main upside I can see in travelling is to get outside of your own comfort zone and discover that a different approach to everyday life is always possible and also enjoyable. On the other hand, should I point out a drawback of travelling I would say that it is often too expensive and this doesn't allow to plan more than one vacation a year.

Hi Annemarie mam, Thank you so much for this lesson 😊 Sometimes it's very difficult for us to see all sides of an issue. One reason I am in favor of online classes is students will be busy and they stay in touch with studies. One reason I am against that they are increasing class hours, but it's not good for students and their health also.

Let me weigh the pros and cons of reading books online. It's always beneficial if you consider all sides before reaching a decision. One reason to be in favour of e-books is that they are affordable. Another upside is that you don't need to go to a bookstore or library. Many other positives are there as well. I'm against online reading because it affects eyes very badly. Another drawback is that you don't always get the unique delight that you would get from a physical book. I'm here undecided.😊 Mam your lesson was really inspiring. Keep going!

Hello Annemarie! I have to weigh pros and cons about to keep learning English in the next future. I' m in favor of keeping learnig becouse: I will gain more understanding of the language. I will get more confidence. I can use my spare time doing something useful. Iwill be able to watch interesting videos like the Speak Confident English ones. The cons are: Learning English is a bit tiring. I have to try hard to overcome language difficalties.I have to pay some money to tutors

My son has decided to buy a car and we have had to weigh the pros and cons. A reason to be a favour of his decision is to give him the opportunity to take responsibility and be independent. Although the downside of that is the trouble of having 3 cars for the family.

Everyone has to weigh a pros and cons before they get covid vaccine .The reason it is favor to prevent a person from being infected with carona but the downside of taking vaccine could also affect one’s health due to the side-effects of the vaccine.

Hi, Ana Maria. I very like your class. It's so helpful that I almost reviewed all your class video, and I have a question to ask: there are two sentences :Do you like playing video games? Do you like to play video games? Are they all correct? if they express the same meaning?

Why I ask this question because in my country my teacher told me: the first sentence means "ask you if you like this kind of activity, but the second sentence means "if you want to play this game now?"

I am now weigning on the issue that whether I should buy my daughter a smarphone or not. I can clearly see both sides for this issue. One of the benefits she may have is to have internet access whenever she wants and needs. However, one of the drawbacks it has is that it can distract her from focusing on her studying.

Hi Sami, you've got a good start here. A couple of things: 1. One of the reasons -- notice the 's' on the word reasons. This is important to keep because you're stating one of many reasons. 2. One of the reasons in favor of campaign is... -- this indicates a reason why you support something. But "One reason for the success of the campaign is the massive budgets..." has a different meaning. This highlights one reason of many that the campaign has been successful in general.

One reason in favor of the second lockdown in Ireland is try to reduce the number of people infected. The drawback is a lot of people will lose their jobs. (?)

The big advantage of your lesson Is the simplest way you cross to me; although on my point of view, the primary downside is that I can't follow you in daily basis.
