Muslim Prayer Ban In School:
A Muslim student in London's Michaela School lost a High Court challenge against the school's ban on prayer rituals. The policy, deemed discriminatory, was contested by the student. The school argued that allowing such rituals could undermine inclusion among students.
School founder and head teacher Katharine Birbalsingh hailed the ruling as a victory for all schools. In an 83-page judgment, Mr. Justice Linden dismissed the student's case, stating that by enrolling at the school, she accepted restrictions on practicing her religion.

It's not gonna pass in long run. Bans on culturally accepted substances will result in black market and gov is better taking juicy taxes over fighting illegal market. As for food tax, god bless em taxing coca cola, burgers whatever contains high amounts of sugar and fats. Why? Because they kill and decrease living standard of majority far more than smoking or drinking. Instead they should lead campaigns for balanced diet, encourage people to buy smart, grow their own and hit shops with plan on dietary products.

I used to work in a care setting where there were quite a few Muslim workers and as soon as things got really busy they'd disappear to go and pray. Used to piss me off big time!

Let them pray, but they have to work the extra time taken to stop and pray, or deduct pay for work time lost. Another way forward would be to use a clock in/off system. Every time someone wants a smoke break or prayer break they have to clock out then back in again to resume work. System is automated and adds up hours worked automatically. I worked in a flexible clocking in/out system and it worked beautifully. Employers didn't lose out and employees were happy to have a little flexibility without loosing pay. E.G. useful if an employee has a dental appointment, pick up kids etc!

This case costed: 1. £100,000 to £150,000 borne by the UK tax payers in the form of legal aid to the muslim student. 2. Legal fees incurred by the school, and also the staff time spent on the case (I guess similar amount as above). I'm an immigrant myself and I'm absolutely gutted at the helplessness of this country 😢

I have smoked since I was 17 and said a couple of years later that tax would soar if they banded smoking because of the tax on cigarettes, the price you pay is about 80% tax. I'm 74 ñèxt week and never go to the doctors, only when he gets angry and rings and says I need my yearly check up.dont take away my bit of pleasure.

Don’t agree with the ethos of the school…find another, don’t take a secular school to court. This is an excellent high achieving school..be grateful for an education that this country provides for free, as the legal aid provided to take this school to court. You don’t like it then go to a country that shares your beliefs, oh wait! Education for females may be limited. Ungrateful. I’m sick of the democracy of this country being used and abused. Give your student place to someone who will be damn grateful of an education.

The parents chose to send their child to that school knowing exactly what the school rules and ethos were. They are free to send their child to any other school. Apparently, the mother said she is disappointed in the ruling by the judge. Tough luck. To her: Don't think that you can enforce your religion on anyone else and take them to court using taxpayers money in legal aid, just to try and get your own way. The school bans ALL TYPES OF PRAYER OF ALL RELIGIONS. Your child is no special case. Move them to a Madrasa or move to a Muslim country

Look at the Chapel at Stansted Airport. Once changed into a multi-faith Prayer Room, it is now more a small mosque with a footbath and prayer mats. Not a place for women.

A smoking ban should not be remotely a priority right now. The original smoking ban made sense as it impacted people who don’t smoke by making indoor areas smoke free. This latest iteration is overstepping their authority. The government have no say in how people live their lives as long as choices don’t impact others.

I smoke and completely support the ban on smoking indoors in public spaces. I do not support the proposed law on banning smoking altogether for some adults and not others on an equality and freedom of choice basis, and also on the basis that it is not the most damaging and expensive vice to wider society...alcohol is.

Although I don't smoke, we are not a dictatorship "yet" people must be allowed to decide for themselves, the health aspect can also be used for alcohol which causes more deaths and anti social behaviour than smoking ever will.
