Taming My Chinese Hamster

3 жыл бұрынin today's video I go through the progress I made to taming my Chinese hamster. I had a lot of people say their Chinese hamster was really timid or scared of them so I wasn't sure how things would go but if you compare day 1 to day 13 you can see how friendly Waddles has come and now he will gladly come onto my hand he will even climb up onto my arm to my shoulder.
These are the type of grids I use but I zip tie them together, I forgot to mention the material doesn't cover to the corners all the way so you may need to put something to prevent a robo from squeezing out.

Waddles is the literal CUTEST! my hamster is skidding but lets me pet him and give him food but HATES being picked up! he’s one of my first hamsters to do that

Story time!!!! I recently adopted my long haired female Syrian hamster. Last time I took her in to the bath tub, she went down to my foot, curled up and went to sleep. I couldn't believe it, she was the cutest thing! Funny thing was, at the shelter they said she was a Male. But when I came home, me and my sister could tell it was a female. Yesterday she was in heat, so definitely a girly! It was my first time (adopting) a hamster and I felt much better about it! Your doing a great job with waddles, victoria. He's very cute!!!

i love your approach! "small positive interaction" should IMO always be the way to go! the very outdated idea that one should force their hamster to interact with them and then have it struggle untill it "accepts its situation" is really cruel in my eyes. these tiny animals dont understand the concept of taming, of being owned by a person and their "role" as someones pet but they do understand where their food comes from, which scents mean they wont get harmed and they will form their own individual bond with their human on their own little terms! 😊♥️

Woah cool! I’ve only had Russian dwarf hamsters, I had two last time and they changed genders to opposite and we had to save this one baby from dying since he was deaf

If you are buying a hamster from a pet store and getting them a ‘cute’ little cage then your hamster is basically just a decoration.

I tamed my old hamster in a similar way, beside that I used my ski gloves and she became obsessed with it. So every time I put my gloves into her cage even without snacks, she climbed up in the speed of lightning. Absolutely adorable

I have had my hamster for 9 months and she still isn’t completely tame haha! I have to be really patient! This is a example of not all hamsters will be tamed in a couple of days xx

I love this, this kind of slow and steady method of taming is absolutely the best imo as it lets you gain your pets trust over time by showing them that we bring good things, the best way to an animal's heart is through their stomach 😅

I wanted to tame my hamster but I never really know when he is awake. He hides all day pretty much. Yesterday he did let me hold him though which was nice. I think him and I are both introverts and can only handle so much interaction a day

This video made me feel good because I have always thought that I had been taming my hamster wrong but this video is completely what I did! My hamster has not yet become custom to me holding her even though I pick her up every evening. She still tries to crawl off. Have you got any tips?

Some hamsters don’t like human interaction. But you can get a little mug and try to get the little hammy out when their ready :)

You might want to rub your hand in the bedding so even if they dont nest with it then you can always have your scent in it. Use a mug to scoop your hammy up and you can practice the bathtime bonding. Hopefully she will get used to your scent and want to take treats from your hands. Also some hams dont like human interaction!

I let my hamster alone then tried feeding by hand and when he went on my hand he would stand stand still for a bit then run around my arms Now whenever I take him out he still stands still for a second then runs around on my arms (He is a Chinese hamster) and when he gets more comfy Dang he can go fasttttttt

He had a tumor that was making him uncomfortable so Victoria had to have him put to sleep so he wasn’t suffering.

From the beginning, my Chinese dwarf hamster Nutmeg, was very calm when he got into my hands and when giving him a treat. He has never bit me. Well actually, he accidentally nibbled me (no pain) because he thought my hand was a treat. He is a really good boy❤️🥰🐹

I have recently taken tips from your previous hamster videos on hamster cages (German inspired ones especially) and I hav managed to give my dwarf hammy snowy a great enclosure set up which includes fresh sanitized willow, plenty of hides and tunnels for her to be safe and all of the other ordinary tips such as many substrates! As a conclusion, THSNK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING SNOWY! she loves her cage! 💛🤩🥰
