So I updated a few things on the CC02 like I had said I wanted to do previously. Well they worked great! So well in fact if pointed out other weaknesses in the truck that reminded me that this is not a crawler but a trail truck!! LOL!
You guys are all awesome and I appreciate all the great comments and questions from everyone. Really enjoying talking to you all in the comments section.

The CC02 Bronco is still a great looking Tamiya. Your upgrades made it that much better. For a trail truck, it handles those rocks well.

Thanks!! It is a terrific trail truck and holds its own on the rocks. To be completely fair to it those rocks have humbled more than one of my purpose built crawlers so for this to get through them as well as it did is a really great testimony for it! From now on it will be following some lighter duty trails even though it has new metal driveshafts I don't really want to find the next weak link and be hunting for much harder to find parts!!! LOL!!

Hi John! Yes, it is probably the worst type of rocks to run on but that is what I got to work with so I try and be as careful as I can but things do happen. I honestly think the driveshafts were made to be sacrificial as they are a very soft plastic. I did order and just got in the metal replacements for them. Those should go on today as long as all goes to plan! I am going to try and avoid taking it across all those gnarly rocks from now on and find some better trails to run on instead! I don't want to destroy the body and if I keep running it out on those rocks I am going to beat it up!

It is a nice truck and I was just asking it to be a bit more than it really is. I did get the metal driveshafts and will get them on there sometime this weekend. I don't see them ever breaking! Good to see you taking it out and using it. I don't take my cars our and smash them up or try and break them but breaking stuff then upgrading the bits I break and seeing how much better if any the upgraded parts are is half the fun. I think you just need to look and see if any one does rock guards for the CC-02 yet, as adding them to the CC-01 help reduced/eliminate most of the damage from getting it stuck on stuff even if it did make the ground clearance slightly worse.

It did much better than I expected and for the short wheelbase, plastic links and not being intended for such difficult conditions it really crushed it!! I did get a metal drive shaft installed and it is ready for another outing but this next one will be on a bit more friendlier terrain as those rocks are just too gnarly and I really don't want to find the next weak link in the chain as that might be much more difficult to find parts for!! I need to find a less rocky place to run it. The new metal driveshaft just showed up and they seem plenty strong but i am worried about breaking other parts that will be much harder to find! The locked diffs are something I did during the build just so I would not have to tear the axles all apart! Getting the trans out to swap the gears was the easy part of the upgrades. They did make that easy to get in and out!

It will be a much more capable truck for stuff like this than the Tamiya! The CC02 is great for a little trail truck but the TRX4 is a great all around trail and rock crawler! Plus parts are wayyyy easier to find when you eventually break something. knock on wood nothing in my TRX4 sport has broken yet and I mainly run it on 3s power. It did really good for what it is and I think the driveshafts may have been designed as sacrificial. It is very soft plastic and may be a design feature for them to twist and save the other parts. We will find out as I got some metal driveshafts for it and will be getting them installed this weekend at some point. I also will try to avoid the jagged rocks and keep it more.to the trails where it is more suitable. But you're probably right and it will end up out there again at some point!

I snapped a driveshaft on my CC-02 Bronco too. First run, a stick got the rear end bound up...sheared the rear shaft right off. It took me a few days to find metal replacements that were not $100+ for a pair. You can probably find metal replacements easier in the US. The ones I ordered were 77-95mm length Chinese specials from Amazon. Yeah Racing does a metal center skid plate and diff skids for the CC-02. Nobody in Canada sells them. It would be stupid expensive for me to order them from the US and have them shipped up to the Great White North. I am probably going to try to make a center skid...maybe a pie tin and elastic bands? 😉

I missed this one somehow! I now have my 2nd CC02 and will probably get some underside protection as well as stronger driveshafts. I hope to start my build in the next month or so...

Yeah I really pushed this one a little too hard but I was curious. I knew the gearbox was tough enough to handle it but wanted to know what the weak link is. The soft drive shaft is and it is probably a good idea and by design. Best to spring a driveshaft then break axles and gears! Definitely more of a trail truck but with good axles and tires it will climb fairly well!

It is a beautiful truck and it has surprised me how well it has done with not being a purpose built rock crawler. I think it is a great all round trail truck and light duty crawler. Great for walking trails and natural terrain, these jagged broken rocks just grab and tear at the underside so badly it makes it very difficult to run on them and is rough on even the toughest crawlers!

You hit the nail on the head! It is way more capable than what most people envision from a Tamiya truck being able to do but it is not really designed for crawling over these types of gnarly rocks! I am really impressed with the truck and I feel like they made the driveshafts almost sacrificial by making them with such soft plastics. I think the next weakest spot is going to be the spur gear. I think that may be the next failure point if pushed too hard. I don't plan on running the gnarly, jagged rocks with it anymore and leaving it to the trails and some easier crawling over things. I was really pushing the limits of the truck and I also don't want to tear up the body. I have gotten luck so far it has not gotten any real damage out there but it is onl a metter of time before I would put a nastsy gouge all down the body out there. I'll leave those rocks to the dedicated crawlers and ones with scrapes and scars all over them.

I have just finished my build , a couple of things about the body : The wheel arches are 2 piece decals which look cheap and misaligned , on reflection its better to paint the arches black when you spray the roof and bumpers, the decal at the base of the windscreen is also something that would look much better sprayed as it does not like to stick down. lastly the wipers are cartoonish , its a shame that a shell with this much detail has nasty decal wipers.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 11 ай бұрын
I agree on the wheel arch decals being a bad idea, I have never used them on any truck like this and always paint them in. I didn't mind the decal at the base of the windshield as it had decent detail. The wipers on the sticker were ok, it would have been nice to get molded plastic ones to put on there though. I enjoyed the build and I like the look of it, there is alway a ton of ways to add to them to detail it up even more but overall I am satisfied with it. Sorry yours bummed you out.

it looks nice, Ha ha ha twisted shafts ...honestly ditch that motor use a 55T I think your motors to big and to fast and powerful why the shafts broke. You probably can use some other type of shafts maybe traxxas ones or some other type just have to find them but that's the going to be the hard part. Also those types of piles of rocks are real bad on smaller tire crawlers the tires drop in the spaces and cause them to get jammed and wedged in them the bigger tire crawlers will do better on them but even for them it's a hard type to crawl through.

Part of your problem is, you’re SLAMMING over the rocks. Your driving style is waaaay too herky jerky. Slow your roll and drive “scale”. Imagine that YOU’RE in the truck. Also….on that note….you need an interior and driver figure in there. 👌🏼

Easier said than done when driving, trying to record it and watch to make sure the truck is in frame all at the same time! That and driving on that riprap is not the easiest thing to drive scale. I know I was beating on it harder than it should be, it really shouldn't have been on those gnarly rocks with plastic everything parts. I got it fixed and will not be taking it back out there, it will find some lighter duty trails from now on. Interior may happen, it would look cool.
