Tamiya Fire Dragon Build - tips, discussion and glamor shots!
Today we are building and unveiling the Thunder Dragon! Apologies for the kind of blah and bland tone I had there at the end, wasn’t feel really great but the show must go on. You guys are always going to get the real me in these videos so….
Huge shout out to the RC Elf for giving me this amazing kit to add to the collection and I am just so humbled by the amazing support he has given me and also to so many other channels. Through him I have meet some really great folks here in KZfaq land and seeing everyone’s videos and getting all the great comments from everyone has really helped me out more than I can express. Thank you all!

I would have loved one of these as a kid! I am really happy to have one now as a big kid! LOL! You should go find your old one and get it running! Be careful though, you get one running and then there may be more that start showing up! the multiply quickly if you are not careful! LOL!

Wow it's funny not many like this model because of the body but this one I really like for some reason.. The glamor shots are pretty! I put 10WT oil in these shocks it makes the suspension work so much better on the rough stuff that tamiya soft is much to thick for these CVA shocks.. 15Wt may be good also. 😁👍She's a beauty! The Rc Elf knows a cool buggy when he sees one!

I used to not like them when they came out, they weren't the sleek cool buggies like so many other were releasing. I really like them now and really love the way they drive. I was super impressed once I got it built and sat back and looked at it and just smiled! The Elf really did me right by sending me this one and cannot thank him enough! > Thanks for the tip on the shock oil. I build them all with the Tamiya oil but often go softer after driving them as it is a touch too thick.

You've just made me want to build my Fire Dragon SOON!! 😊 I actually didn't like the Body at first. After seeing Steve's FD (Shen) I started warming up to it.... After seeing YOURS, I'm actually excited about building mine! I've always been a Modeler first, the pre-cut, pre-painted Body was leaving me cold. Now I see it as ONE Kit that won't piss off my Wife with paint fumes!!!! 😅😜😂😂

I was a little unsure of the looks of them as well but once it is all together and in front of you it is something you will like! And since it is just a single color paint job I don't mind them being pre-painted, it just saved me the time and stink of spraying it!! I am sure once you drive it you will fall in love with it!!

@@AddamsPlayground I still mind pre-painted a little, but it is something I can build at my In-Laws place, because it's painted!! I've got a pretty stout Brushless Motor in my Axial Wraith.... Getting the decals on there right can be a struggle but there are ways to make it a lot easier. You can spray the body with soapy water and they will slide around until it is just right and then you work the water out from under the sticker, kind of like window tint or car wrap guys do. It is the exciting part though. It really comes to life with the decals on and that also usually means it is time to go out and play!!! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Addam, great looking Fire Dragon. Looks really good. Sorry that you weren’t feeling so great. I have on the 30th my booster. I had the Astra Zeneca vaccine (x2), so think I’m going to be given the Pfizer booster. Felt terrible for the very first vaccine, but was ok for the second, hopefully this 3rd shot won’t knock me over eh? 😉😆😊 take care, keep well, all the best 😊😉

@@canuckchuck8836 yeah, my parents and I all had the same shots and did well, wife got the other and did fine. I had two friends both 10-15 years younger than me get the same ones and they got knocked down like that. It is odd how vaccines affect people so differently. I'll take some minor inconvenience over getting really sick any day though. Glad you made it through the man-cold, I have had some near misses with those in the past too!

@@AddamsPlayground I keep a headstone close by just in case I get the sniffles. My wife keeps threatening to start digging a grave every time I get a runny nose. Thanks for your vids! I'm about to begin a Fire Dragon build. What is the "green" grease you use, or something I could substitute? Cheers mate 👍😊
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground 2 жыл бұрын
It is called green slime and is an Associated product. I think a few other companies have similar stuff for building shocks but I have not used them. It is basically a grease that won't interact with the shock oil. It helps seal the o-rings to prevent leaking. I assume you could use a regular grease in their but it may have adverse effects on the o-rings and oil so I have never tried. A tiny bit goes a long way, you can build anywhere 15-30 sets of shocks with a single container of it so it should last a long time for most. Have fun with the fire dragon, it is a fun one to drive!!!

Why does the fire dragon body look so far forward. The snout overhang is just terrible. I reckon if you could mount it further back somehow it would look a lot better. Do you think it's possible?
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
The body itself is in the same position overall as the other two are. They did push the cockpit forward a little more than the others and the driver figure is different. That probably makes it look more forward than the other two. I am not sure why they decided to design this one slightly different than the others. It seems like it would have been easier to keep them all with the same interior and general placement but for some reason they tweaked this one some. I am not sure you could shift it back as the body is pre-cut and painted so you would have extra holes in the stock body. I am pretty sure all the new body shells sold as replacements are pre-cut and holes drilled also. A reproduction body would be your best bet but I am not sure you could shift it back too much.
