This guy has one of the best tango lessons on youtube. He moved in crosses to exaggerate body movement that many of us have forgotten with our "sitting too much" life style. Too many male leads do not know how to lead from the chest because they do not know how to coordinate and relax their bodies. They move like stiff wood. Too many teachers teach steps and figures because that is where the money is. There is an unlimited number of figures so you have to pay unlimited amount of money. Tango shouldn't be that expensive and complicated. This teacher shows the foundation of the walk that you can practice at home. The video exaggerates movement to allow you to strengthen your muscle coordination memory through practice. This video and his many others give you this foundation for tango, and they are free. Which is perhaps one reason some teachers feel threatened by their availability.

people say negative posts because their teachers won't teach them basics in class and just straight into learning steps which are absolutely useless and the major impediment to dancing tango. These are exercises to become comfortable walking and not meant to be used as a way of walking in a milonga unless you want to try something new sometimes. Walking is the one thing that 90% of dancers never practice and it is the most important thing to practice... much more important than going to a class and learning steps. Just walk for a year at least one hour a day and you will be 10 times better dancer than going to a class everyday and learning steps. Actually if you learn steps you will not be dancing tango at all but you will be real popular outside of Argentina.

I get the impression that this is how an old martial arts master would teach tango. The purpose of the exercise isn't immediately apparent, but drilling it will make one a better dancer.

As with the other comment on the above entry, yes, one easily can be reminded of martial arts instruction, specifically taichichuan and "taichi walking" with its emphasis on weight shifting. My wife are plannig to begin tango lessons along our taichi . . . here's hoping we don'g get confused! I think this series of sessions is excellent!

This is very good technique for fundamental movement... Lot of people teaching only the movement... Same like in salsa... No many teacher teach the fundamental movement... Because they think can get lot of money from the movement combination...

carabosse4, the music is "La Yumba", from Osvaldo Pugliese. Very nice exercise using exaggerated movements in counter body motion (for an exercise) to establish balance and position walking a straight line & keeping the knees together. Thanks for sharing!

Goede serie video's! Een mooie heldere uitleg over hoe je elegant en ontspannen kunt dansen. Het enige waar ik mij niet goed in kan vinden is het markeren met de hand.

I tend to agree with the negative comments regarding crossing your feet. I can see where that would be a good way to learn contra-body , as well as keeping your legs together- but it you get in the habit of walking like that outside of a practice session, and try it with a partner, you and your partner are going to have problems. The controversy I am used to hearing is single track vs. two track, - but NEVER crossing your feet when on the dance floor.

Are you serious?!? Do you have to walk with your back foot inward?!? No posture, just lame knock-kneed walking! Yesss! Basic and good lead exercises are very important! But I'm very sorry, that one is gnome.

@RyanSmith-ju1bu7 жыл бұрын
For the record eqch style is slightly different from one another and you should clue in on what they are teaching. This is how to dance with couples, meaning when a lot of people are there at the same time. Also the term "beagainer" or "new" is relative. However, that does not mean a style which you are not studying or fimilar with is wrong.
@Padla6967 жыл бұрын
Best way to learn the basics is to find a school with good teachers. If you insist that this "style " is relevant try to find contemprorary tango salon videos where dancers walk this way.
@ericd77097 жыл бұрын
It's very exaggerated - a 'fringe tango' technique. Probably will surprise dancers you meet in real life!

I absolutely agree with you Nantia. Walking this way is not natural at all. Sebastian Achaval does it, yeah, but (a) he combines (in a free way) toe steps with heel steps, and (b) most modern dancers (including world champions from whom I had the chance to receive a few lessons) do NOT follow this technique (e.g: Sebastian Jimenez, Facundo de la Cruz), in general, or at least, not initially. It is possible to walk softly and use the heel first, in a natural way identical as how you walk in the street. Estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo Nantia. Soy español, he visto y escuchado a muchos argentinos (y más de uno han sido campeones del mundo en los últimos años), y también opinan que la mejor manera de pisar es con el tacón primero.
@cktango39517 жыл бұрын
But you are not walking in the street when dancing Tango.
@MrMannyCalavera7 жыл бұрын
Come on, nobody dances tango today crossing his/her feet like this, don't be ridiculous. Achaval sometimes walks on his toes, that's true, but not crossing them. Some other famous dances use their toes as well, but course they do not cross their feet at all. Even more, walking on the toes is a dissapearing trend. No contemporary teacher will teach this.
