Tannus Armour Compressed to 5mm! Be aware.

So, after a couple of days with tyres deflated, I thought I'd check out the compression of the Tannus Armour 15mm top section.
Well, it has compressed by 2/3rds of it's original thickness.
Some puncture protection is still available, although not 15mm worth.
I forgot to mention that the thorn also pierced the armour, with around 1 or 2mm touching the tube, as seen when removing it, but still without getting punctured.
Let me show you what I'm on about.

Same experience with compression,. I ran mine at 25psi in 3" x 20" tires on a Rad Mini bike. I got flats, so I ripped them out angrily. I gut it and put a caliper on it, and measured exactly 4mm. That may be better than nothing, but the marketing says 15mm, and the pictures illustrate that thickness, and that is simply NOT what you get in your tires.

Their website says that the foam will compress if you run higher pressures in the tube, and that you should run lower pressure for that reason. They also say that if you're not going to ride for a bit to drop the pressure and then foam might thicken up a bit

Thank you for the honest review and updating about their response, I'm not sure if to buy these, I'm going tubeless now and really interest to know if it regain that 10 mm back :)

Swchalbe marathon tyres never let me down. But na with the same protection in Mtb tyres. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I had Marathon Plus tyres (5mm) and Tannus Armour (probably compressed to about 5mm like in this video) and despite having that 10mm, I still got a puncture from a (12mm) nail. I'm putting the solid "Aither" tyre on soon, at least on the rear.

That's a bugger. Solid tyres will solve that, but I wonder how they feel and handle.

@@Adlemtbadv Everyone that's using them seems to say something different. The #1 complaint is the increased rolling resistance. I'm putting one on the rear (only) of an eBike so, the motor will handle the increased rolling resistance. The other thing people say is the ride is harsher, but I have got suspension front and rear. The other thing people have said is they are breaking spokes, but I don't know if that's on 700c racing wheels or what. My rear wheel is 36 spoke @ 2.5mm diameter spokes. Let's see.

You're still getting the same amount of protection whether it be thinner and harder or thicker and softer. I'd be concerned if the material was dissolving, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Tannus does mention that the material may settle and that you'll need inflate the tires a bit more.
