After losing his shoe, his mentally pressure so high and he could not concentrate for his race,, so he ran too fast very early in his final lap. The shoe, his anger and pressure gave him trouble .. but lots of lessons to learn from that for us, as human beings how to handle the pressure.

@@yalfalzemenu6051 he had every right to be angry. Haile put him at a huge disadvantage by standing on his heel. Haile probably would have won anyway but it was a disgraceful way to end what was a great race. Getting angry and losing control after his heel was stood on was perfectly understandable. The only people who wont accept this as understandable are non runners

Very simple; it’s not the shoe that Tanui is angry about but throughout the race Haile is only sitting behind him - her harvesting his efforts. Anybody who has done competitive running will tell you how annoying it is for when someone simply sits behind waiting to pounce. And then he steps your shoe - aaah!! That ruins it. So he Tanui now thinks,”let me give it to you”. But unfortunately Haile was a good finisher. Both men are elite runners - much more than any average sportsman.

If someone sits behind you , that's means you can control the pace , you can keep the pace slow or fast and kick in right time . The Kenyan athlete was scared that's why he lost the race .

Tanui lost his cool (being only human) after losing shoe, then made the mistake of sprinting and inevitably got tired and passed by Gebrselassie. Great race from both men though.

@thomasmckenzie4584 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call it a mistake sprinting early. He ran his final lap in 55 seconds. He wasn't beating Gebrselassie if he waited til the final 200. I also think him losing his shoe gave him a shot of adrenaline and he just went for it.

Geb was known for his 1500m sprinting finish; so Tnui’s plan was set a really fast pace and kill Geb finishing kicks and hopefully drop him; that why there was no one near them but Geb stuck around. Getting kicked happens but Tnui failed setting a high pace race toward the end

Tanui had every right to be pissed. Geb did none of the work and drafted off Tanui for most of the race and then even if only accidentally, stepped on Tanui's shoe with 400M to go. Tanui had the composure to only point at him and essentially say "No, get away from me. I'm not shaking your hand after that." Geb may be the GOAT but he ran like a dick here. If he hadn't been drafting, he wouldnt have flat-tired Tanui. Geb probably still wouldve won, but it wouldve been fairer b/c Tanui wouldve had both shoes on. Theyre friends today I think so its ancient history now, but Tanui had every right to be mad at losing a world champ 10K like this.

World Records so check the achievements of both athletes so Geb widely regarded as the greatest distance runner in history and I left the answer for your conscious .

I felt for Tanui here. I see people saying that Tanui was frustrating Geb with the slow pace. If so then why did Geb not take the lead? I have all my life rooted for Ethiopians agains Kenyans because Kenias horrible doping history but in this race on the last round I rooted for Tanui. The athlete running 2nd is always responsible for not running too close.

Sorry, but Gab should have been disqualified. If it was just the one time, then, no. But... Several times he clipped his heels throughout the race. That's just wrong.

+Red Rum It is Tanui's fault for going stepping in Haile's lane and also going too slow. Haile was in the first lane while Tanui was in the second, but Tanui kept stepping in the first lane and yet Haile was just right behind him.

Red Rum If there isn't such a thing as lane, then why do you suggest that Haile should have been disqualified. And by the way,the rules imply that if a person is in the first lane and moving at a steady pace, you can't not overtake them and then immediately also go to the first lane. You have to be far enough to do that. Check what Tanui did here. He clearly broke that rule. Haile was on the first lane the whole time.
@mosestewelde8163
@mosestewelde8163 8 жыл бұрын
Red Rum That was exactly my point! I wanted you to come to the realization that it is not only Haile who is at fault here. That is why he was not penalized.

This man tormented Kenyan runners. He really ' hated' Kenyans. Stealing win after win at the worst time possible and at the last 20 meters. Machuka slap him, Tanui lost a shoes and the race. Target almost doubled up with fright and lost at the finish line. Wow! Damn it!

Geb was a better runner and probably would have won anyway, however he was known in his early years as being a bit dirty, sitting behind runners clipping them again and again in order to irritate them and make them lose their coolness.

The better man won. Tanui showed poor form by not shaking Gabrselassie's hand. Everyone has been clipped in a race. It happens. It wasn't on purpose and it happens more often when people slow down to control pace as Tanui was doing. Tanui left 100m too early. I was beaten by 5m in the end. It wasn't that close. If it were a photo finish I would have been on Tanui's side but it wasn't.

better man won what??? He won by running to close to Tanui and kicking his shoe off. He was better at kicking shoes of opponents feet but we will never know was he the better athlete that day. If I would have to bet I would say Tanui would have won. Huge disadvantage to run with one shoe. Much easier if both bare feet. Tanui definitely was entitled to be angry after the race. Calling his behaviour poor sportsmanship shows zero understanding of sports at the very top level.
