It's ironic because he split with his coach Sven Groeneveld (current coach of Andreescu) towards the end of last season and now he's performing really good. He's a bit of a late bloomer but I'm hoping he'll maintain this level of tennis throughout the season.

Kind of curious on why both Naomi Osaka and Taro Daniel chose to represent Japan. Not passing any judgement whatsoever, strictly curiosity because they are both Japanese/American mix, so the decision could be either way. Just wondering if Japanese tennis governing body offered more support...

offering more support and of course their ethnicity. he's 1/4 only white actually. I though he was 1/2 white😀

In Naomi's case, this is confirmed; her family applied for both American and Japanese representation but America did not provide support, and anyway Naomi herself wanted to rep Japan, the US rep decision was her family's. Later when she started making a good name for herself US Tennis Federation offered American rep but Naomi refused. Taro was born in New York, has an American father and Japanese mother (I'm pretty sure) who moved to Tokyo as a child. He travelled to many countries in his childhood but chose to rep Japan because he [sic] 'feels more Japanese, knows more people in Japan than in the US' and he was also financially well supported for Japanese rep. So yes Japan does offer better support than the US in these exceptional cases. It also still mostly depends on the player's preference.

chirpy kid...multilingual... multinational... don't they need loads of cash to be like that - have a base in 3 or 4 countries to suit their respective tennis... schedules...too much...good for him... compared to such people it is amazing that RafaNadal stays/lives in one place and goes to tournament venues only in time for the start of the tournament... what a study of sportsmanship is Nadal... does the minimal but achieves so much...
