In this video, we're going to be discussing how to fix your scoliosis permanently using a brain and movement retraining guide.
Scoliosis is a condition in which the spine curves to the side. This can cause pain, difficulty breathing and even impair mobility. I've made this brain and movement retraining guide to help you fix your scoliosis permanently, by correcting the underlying conditions and causes of the scoliosis.

My name is Taro Iwamoto. I'm a movement coach. I help people go from feeling overwhelmed, confused, and frustrated about not knowing their own body, what their body needs and how they should be moving, to feeling connected with their body, understanding their body and needs, and how to move in the best way possible for their own body from the inside out so that they can move with a sense of ease, comfort, and confidence! If this is you, I believe you will get lots of values from my contents.
When you start connecting with YOUR BODY and move slowly and pay attention to your body, you will start to understand YOUR BODY and optimal movement and posture for YOUR BODY from the inside out, in a way no one can understand. YOUR BODY only belongs to YOU. Only you can access your internal resources that is AWARENESS!

Taro, I did this exercise and I nearly cried. Why, oh why hasn't this way of thinking prevailed? Teaching your brain, indeed. Everything starts there. And your body gets crooked from neglect, and then it makes your brain crooked. So yes, teach your brain and thus keep your body healthy. Thank you!

our cultural influence is so strong and trains us to be so disconnected from our bodies sadly. But thats not the only choice we have, so I keep sharing:)

Here's is something very important I want you to know. Our culture (modernized culture, mostly Western culture) trains us to be disconnected from our bodies. Our culture trains us to view our bodies as external objects as an outside observer. Our culture trains to look to outside experts to fix us, fix our body issues but doesn't train us to connect with our own body, own sensory experience, "listen" to our body, feel our body, and learn from our inner intelligence. This is cultural influence on our beliefs influences our behaviors. Many people believe that they need more information in order to overcome their limitations and challenges. Many believe that they just haven't found the "right" information yet so keep seeking outside for their answer. Reality is that we have too much information, and we are so disconnected from our own body and experience. It's easy to view my videos as another exercise video, and approach it from that mindset, that is to approach your body like fixing mechanical parts that lie external to you. Then, you are really missing the point. This is not a conventional way of thinking in Western culture, so it's easy to let my message pass through you. But, don't worry! I am persistent and will repeat over and over and over:) I'm not here to teach you exercises to correct your body structures. I am here to help you connect with YOUR BODY, YOUR SENSORY EXPERIENCE, learn from YOUR BODY, and create a new way of movng, using yourself, being in your body! This paradigm shift is necessary for transformation, changes in your nervous system, movement patterns, quality of life because your body and mind are one! I really encourage you to keep this message in your mind as you watch my videos and practice movement!

How lucky I was to have found this film. According to the doctors, my back is a "catastrophe" and I have severe scoliosis. Very painful and energy-consuming, permanent. A really tough challenge with a broken right arm tendon. Painkillers hardly work at all, so I hardly use them anymore. This exercise is really great and provides relief. I am grateful to you for it

It's easy to approach this movement lesson just like any other stretching/strengthening exercises, but try approaching it from a different perspective, and focus on connecting with YOUR BODY and learning about YOUR BODY and your own habitual patterns and explore new movement patterns so you can create new options for your body. While you go through this lesson, can you sense and feel in your body clearly about how one direction is easier and more familiar, suggesting your habitual pattern and how the other direction is less familiar, more awkward, harder, suggesting non-habitual pattern? When you can sense the difference clearly in your body, you now become aware of your habitual pattern. No need to correct your habits, but instead, you can practice moving into a new pattern so you won't be stuck in your habitual pattern all the time!

After I completed this exercise, I took an after photo just for giggles and I’m actually straight. The waist of my pants are actually even. I don’t feel a “drop” when I step with my left foot (¼ inch shorter). My shoulders are also even. What in the world. 36 years old and I’m actually standing straighter than ever. Thank you so much.

Feeling more comfortable, evenly balanced on my hips vs my usual semsation of leaning more to the left and my right sits bone feeling more pressure on it that eventually gets quite uncomfortable. Really felt my body working to move into the unfamiliar side but it did get easier as I did it. Makes so much sense to be doing this as compared to stretching. @@TaroIwamoto Your words around the habit side being easier to do, helped me a bit to visualize the differences between one side versus the other. Adding the straight arms with the movement, made an emphasis. I have a left thoracic, right lumbar curve convex to the right. So the movement to the second side was more challenging. I could actually feel what seem to be some movement in my muscles around the spine, or maybe it was my disc patterns. Where I sit on my behind in the chair felt more grounded at the end of the practice, and my lung space felt less challenged, with more breath pathways. How much of a leg contraction, foot into the floor do you think one needs to do, to lift the behind off the chair or shift? Again. great content! Thanks!

First of all thanks for teaching us this. I sit with computers all the time and never knew I was sitting all these years one-sided. Now I noticed my right solder is lower a little bit than the right one, I can also feel in my head that I'm using the right side of my brain 😮. I can associate this to my sitting posture... My mom even noticed it some time ago... I started this exercise yesterday and today I'm more than better.. I will continue this morning and evening for a month. If you are reading this you are not alone... Also understand that it can be corrected and It will go back the same way it came 😅 God bless you all

my core message for my teaching is this: all body parts are connected. body and mind are connected. we cannot work with our body like fixing mechanical parts because we are not a machine, and we all have unique body and how your body wants to move is unique. It only makes sense for us to learn how to connect with our own body and learn about our body and movement patterns, and learn how to move more comfortably and easily from the inside out, not from the outside in. Shoulders are connected to hips through the torso, so they all influence each other. You really cannot change your body until you fully become aware of your habitual movement patterns, and how all your body parts are connected. If you're new to my channel, I highly recommend you watch my recent videos regardless of their titles, and pay attention to the principles I'm teaching.

Two things I noticed most - I have little strength to hold up my arms...which was sad to find out. Second, I have to really pay attention to press my heel into the floor to raise my hip. Seems my habitual way is to contract the waist muscles (or whatever the muscles are on the side). Both the arms and heel realization was unexpected. Kinda sad about this as I'm in worse condition than expected...but the good news is I have a great teacher...thank you so much :)

Hello. Thank you for the tutorial. Can these exercises actually fix scoliosis and re-align the spine or what exactly do they improve?

Good morning my request is not really related to scoliosis. I am starting to stoop and my shoulders are rounding do you have a video to retrain which is becoming an habitual stance. I love your videos, you have made me very conscious and aware of my body posture 🥰

Hi Taro - First of all thank you for the video. Is this exercise/resetting brain connection useful in kids with adolescent scoliosis as well or just for folks with functional scoliosis?

Thanks for your wonderful teachings! Do you have a similar set of videos to help with kyphosis? How about herniated discs (L4-L5)? the kyphosis is probably related to the fact that my mother had severe kyphosis. I'm not sure who to blame for the herniated discs 🙂

Taro may I ask a question? My thoracic spine is almost entirely siezed up, as in, the vertebrae don't really articulate. Is the scoliosis series the right series to do for this, or would you recommend something else? Thank you for sharing your skills so generously on here, the quality of your work and videos is superb. I'm very grateful to have found your channel. *I have severe hypermobility, which comes along with locking/freezing up as well, the body trying to compensate.

If the camera was positioned in back of this person, the movement direction would be easier to pick up.

Great lesson Taro. Really liked it. I have question regarding your chair. I’m workin in a office on a computer. Therefore I’m wondering if this type of chair would be better than classic office chair? Could also do some your excesses in between the work. What chair are you using when workin on computer? Thank you!

Thank you. I'm 55 years of age and I suffer from full lumbar scoliosis. I've never been informed of info to help me. I can lift my right hip, got that. However my left will not move so I just kept going with it as if I were actually lifting the hip. Is that something that normally takes time? Is there another exercise that will help with that? Also just finished with chemo and lumpectomy currently doing radiation therapy so I thought it would be great to get in pool at YMCA for PT because I'm really weak and tired easily. Can you provide exercises I can do in pool? I'm in tears. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you taking time and energy to help others. Thank you. JoAnn

Would it be helpful to also progress this exercise using turning the upper torso and head? And later progressing with a head nod? I would think that this motion would also engage the Ligamente Nuchae into cervical spine?
@TaroIwamoto
@TaroIwamoto Жыл бұрын
as a variation, you can add in sliding the bottom hand forward past the top hand, which will invite your pelvis and torso to turn, you can also invite your head to turn with the torso.
