TASCAM DR-70D REVIEW
DSLRs and small mirror less cameras are great because of their compact nature and versatility. Unfortunately most of them suffer from sub standard internal microphones and lack of audio controls and features. In many cases you need to find an external audio solution to capture professional audio.
Tascam recently relesed the DR-70D, a 4 channel compact audio recorder. The unit features two in built microphones, 4 XLR/TRS combo jacks and the ability to output via a 3.5mm mini jack to a camera. For owners of cameras such as the Canon 5D Mark III, Panasonic GH4, BMPCC and Sony a7S the DR-70D enables you to record professional quality audio externally and internally to your camera at the same time. With the ability to provide phantom power (+24v and +48V) and choose between a line or mic source the DR-70D offers a lot of versatility for users. At $299 it should meet the needs of budget conscious shooters.

Hi, thanks for the video, is very useful... I have a question, I don't know if you could answer it to me. It's possible for example plug two mic for interview and one for ambience, record the three tracks with the tascam, but send to the cam only the mics for interview? in less words, how works the tascam's file system to record? tracks separately? all together? thanks

Very nice review, thanks for posting. Question for you and those who have watched this review. I have a Mackie ProFX8 Audio mixer and a Tascam DR-70D is it possible to hook up both when I am doing audio for filming?

Hi, I need some help.I have my cables going from output of tascam -70D then into my video camera mic port. I'm Trying to get good audio onto the video recording. When I use my Panasonic handheld video camera HC-V770 with this Tascam DR-70D , if both are plugged into utility power instead of battery power, I get loud interference in my video recording on the memory card that is in the video camera. But if I unplug either unit and let one run off of battery, the sound in the video is crystal clear. Is this normal? is there something I can do to stop this in case my batteries are dead or I am making a long recording? On the audio only recording that is on the memory card in the Tascam DR-70D, the audio is fine, no issues or changes.... Thank you for your feedback.

Question: I am recording in stereo mode with a shotgun mic connected to one of the xlr inputs. Panning is set to center. When i listen to the recording with headphones on the dr70d, i hear the sound on both sides of the headphones. But when i listen to the recording file on the computer, i only hear audio from only one side of the headphones. Is that normal? Is it just how this recorder is built?

Gee I always thought that was an 's' in Tascam not a 'z.' I have the Tascam (no z0 60 and it is a battery 'pig' but no mention was made on the life of the device on the batteries. By the way the brackets you showed all had mounting on the side which is easy.

Peter de Wit I 've got an answer from TASCAM. It is a pitty. The DR70 does not have the MTR function to make overdubs. An option the cheaper DR44 HAS.
