James I beg to differ with you. Yes Rode is sometimes seen as being first but , it was Tascam that did the first Podcaster interface. The first unit was the Tascam MiniStudio. It came as a single XLR input and a model which is still out that has Two XLR inputs. It was the first unit with sound pons/pads. Everything since 2013 has been a copy of the MiniStudio . Have improvements been made. It depends on what platform you are on. The Tascam units have more features in the Windows OS than the Apple OS. The majority of people who complain about Tascam units are Apple OS users who apparently don’t read manuals.

Thanks for the info. I'm leaning towards the Mixmaster 4... but I'm not yet sure why. :(

The mixer has frozen twice and makes a buzzing sound. The only way to fix the problem is to restart it by disconnecting the power cord.

Totally agree about the deal-breaking omission of more USB ports. New products now need to have multiple USB channels. I think we're all going digital as early in the process as possible, and multiple analog inputs (over and above a few microphones and maybe an analog phone in) these days are as useful as, ahem, breasts on a bull.

Thats one key thing missing from the Rodecaster Pro which has almost become industry standard now for people's home studio. It's quite astonishing that these 'alternative' options by other manufactures don't go above and beyond to make their devices stand out. Adding more USB channels, 2 or even 4 - even if they are switchable between USB and Analog inputs would immediately make this device stand out and give people a reason not to just buy the Rodecaster pro. Most people don't need 4 mic inputs - most people 2 or 3 would be fine. So why not have the last mic input assignable to a USB source instead?

@@JamesMulvanyTV That is exactly why I stepped back from the otherwise very tempting Rodecaster Pro. Can I ask you to consider reviewing more of the software based mixers/broadcast desks out there? For those of us with multiple USB inputs/outputs, they seem the only way to proceed, even if the ergonomics are not nearly as good as a physical device. Many thanks for all the information and expertise you so generously share.

James! You don’t answer the one question a lot of people have and that is how does it compare to the rodecaster pro. If someone already has a rodecaster pro do you advise them to get this instead. Or would you say they are pretty identical to one another and do the same thing minus a few features. Please advise!

I think I have answered this? I'd say stick with the Rodecaster Pro if you have one as fundamentally it offers more. This is yet another copy, if they had made it significantly cheaper - or added something like more USB channels, then I'd say go with this.

I just got one of these, and there is an odd issue with buzz on the headphones. It's only present when I connect my studio monitors. Has anyone else here had that issue?

I followed the link to the US Amazon and the price was actually $599 which is similar to the RodeCaster Pro. If I had to choose between I think I might go with the RodeCaster with the same price. What do you think? Although you say it seems very professional. So many choices.

Thank you James. You mention that this and the similar unit are not suitable for radio braodcasting. Is there something similar that is suitable for broadcasting from home specifically??Thanks. PS Love the videos and all that you do.

Is this device having the parallel recording like Zoom P8 - on card and usb? Would be nice to do comparison VS Zoom P8. Good content! Sub + 👍 edit: I have now seen than it has no monitor output control - wth? really? how is that possible if it's targeted towards semi-professionals? Big OMG from here. I have started to notice recently when luring on info about Tascam Mixcast 4, more and more people are having issues with random freezing of this device software. So far I will keep this device in distance until I will hear - it's solved together with the monitor gain control, which could be done with the software, but tbh - should be done in just with the fader in any form.

No es la configuración adecuada para el micrófono que usas. Evidentemente se escucha mal y wn desventaja frente a otros. El micrófono, un fetiche popular, no es el adecuado para este tipos de dispositivos.

That mic sounds terrible, I hear tons of background noise.
