I’m British and I’ve never heard of Paul McCaffrey. Until this episode of Taskmaster of course.

John was always destined to dominate. He has that mixture of wanting to win badly, and also being a massive fan of the show, so he knows all the little tricks. Nobody else on that stage would probably have even known that the stage extension is called The Knappett.

Im so glad your back and ive missed you and your taskmaster and other reactions. been fun bingeing the past few of this season with you. This season feels so much better then those previously, I dont know why, the past few years have seemed very hit and miss for me when it moved from Dave to Channel 4. but this season feels soo fun. I only really know Nick and Steve and love them but the others are so fresh and fun. Whereas the past few years have been grabs of people that have been around for decades and everyone knows with one or two new faces! It feels like when I watch TM NZ and I dont know any of them, except the time Urzula Carlson was on it because shes fantastic. The newest TM NZ, was fantastic and I hope you got to watch it while you were taking a break from the channel. If not I would highly recomment, I definitely know you will probably love Ray so much, he is the David, Josh, silly weird guy from the past few TM NZ.

Paul McCaffrey is an established, but you might call 'jobbing' comedian. Not a household name, but makes a living. Exactly the sort of person who might have an existential crisis on tour in a transport caff. He put this photo on his instagram back in 2012. He's doing a bit better these days I think.

Paul McCaffery isn't well known. He's been a comedian for a while and will be known by other comedians and massive UK comedy fans but he hasn't had much TV work. The only thing I can think of is UK Impractical Jokers. It was him, Roisin Conaty, Joel Dommett and Marek Larwood. Roisin and Joel went on to become much more known than the others. I think he also has a podcast about football with Jon Richardson.

This series has made me realize that the reason I don’t like Nick on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown is because of the character he plays, not because of Nick himself.

I feel like Greg is very generous with points to Nick whenever there's a rare opportunity to do so, because he knows he's so far behind that it doesn't really matter (both in giving 5's and also not disqualifying him where he would almost any other contestant). It's honestly kind of cute, lol.

A bit random but Alex's wife Rachel works on air for Virgin Radio so would qualify for the New Years Treat show.

If I had to break down the contestants as high school clichés: Joanne is the ‘secret genius’ but she’s only focused on cruising through school with little effort. John’s the naturally smart kid that also studies like a maniac because he wants a scholarship before he graduates. Nick is the really nice and humble kid who for some reason always studies the wrong thing and barely scrapes by. Sophie…well she’s the class clown that scrapes by mostly on sympathy and dumb luck. Steve on the other hand is the lazy genius. He’ll pass when he needs to but spends most of his energy trolling the teacher.
