The fertile black soil of North Karnataka yields a rich bounty of vegetables and grain, and this delicious, fresh produce is best experienced in a traditional Jolada Rotti (jowar rotti) vegetarian meal at a khanavali (eating house) in the region. And the most popular jolada rotti oota seems to be the one served at Basaveshwar Khanavali, a string of vegetarian eateries in Dharwad, Hubballi and now, Bengaluru, that date back to 1963. We visited their main branch at Chennamma Circle in Hubballi, where we met the Ganachari family that is committed to serving sumptuous North Karnataka meals, and also discovered an interesting technique that makes their jolada rotti special. Hope you enjoy this episode; take care, stay safe and happy eating!

@jaytalati
@jaytalati 2 жыл бұрын
@@noone-zl2di I can understand your anger and sentiments. Since long time,the Dravidian languages were never introduced properly to other parts of the country. Due to the lack of knowledge and communication, some people had knowingly created the barriers between the languages,and instead of promoting the learning of different languages,they created a nonsense idea of just promoting one language. Being a Gujarati,after watching the videos of Kripal sir,I have just fallen in love with the simplicity and humbleness of the Southern India. Have started learning Tamil,as soon as I complete learning the alphabets of Tamil,will definitely learn Kannada as well,since my favorite places are Dharwad,Hubli and Belgam also. If there is any mistake in writing, please let me know.

It is slowly dawning on me that the food review is a balancing act on multiple fronts - being conscious of many people watching you, yet to be natural. Conveying what the food feels like through the language of words, body language and eyes. Maintaining an engaging conversation with the owners of the restaurant. Doing all these together must take you to the very edge of the comfort zone if not beyond. for these, my sincere appreciations. keep up the great work

My parents would take me to Basveshwar khanavali whenever we used to visit hubli which happens to be my mom's home town. My grandma also would prepare the exact same meal at home every single day lesser varieties. The daily meals consists of one vegetable sabji, one lentils sabji, chutney pudi's (agasi , shenga, gurellu, putani),fresh green methi leaves, onion, ghee/butter with jolad rotti and a rice and saaru. In summer season, it would be mavina hannina sheekarni with holgi. Omg, my mouth is watering just thinking of it. I am so proud to be part this cultural heritage where the food is so extremely tasty and also extremely healthy.

Fenugreek leaves along with lunch,reminds me of the style my grandfather eats. I really like that "Bharla Vangyachi Bhaji"(Brinjal sabji) with jowar roti, it's a good combination along with some freshly made " thecha"(ground chilli chutney) and onion divided into half by wrist. This style is present in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. Jhunka-Bhakar is also very famous combination in Maharashtra,I am surprised Hubli cuisine also has this.

Kindly note, Traditional ಮುಟಗಿ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ is different, The owner of hotel is also misguiding. In North Karnataka ಮುಟಗಿ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ is prepared when there is no side dish to eat ಜೋಳದ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ. At the same when children refuse to eat Roti, in such case ಮುಟಗಿ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ is usually prepared just simple ingredients which are usually available in home like Ghee ,butter or edible oil and ಮಸಾಲೆ ಖಾರ , ಬೆಲ್ಲ or Sugar. ಮುಟಗಿ ರೊಟ್ಟಿ is prepared in two ways both in sweet and spicy. At the same Nati vegetables are not available any where in India for commercial use. If you wish Nati vegetables you should grow your own.

Every time we North Karnataka people are coming back from our native places, the most priced pocession that we bring back to Bangalore are naati (country) Capsicum, cucumber, coriander, thorny brinjal and ridgegaurd. One can not match the taste, flavours and textures with vegetables available in Bangalore no matter how hard we try. I have learnt it hard way.
