What's really creepy, there is a family out there who were asleep one night, and an extreme nightmare looked through a window into their home. And the family never knew it happened.

Dear Forrest Haggerty; Thank you for providing outstanding perspective via Google Earth of two horrific nights of terror, in August of 1969. I was not quite ten years old, living in a small town in Southern Utah. Hearing the news reports of the Tate-Labianca murders terrified me beyond measure. As an adult, I read Vincent Bugliosi's book, "Helter Skelter" on his prosecution and conviction of theses animals. However, your painstaking retracing of the streets, houses, etc. through Google Earth provides an incredible added dimension to the crimes. Thank you for an excellent job. RIP to Sharon Tate and unborn baby, her guests, Steve Parent, and the Labianca's. What a horrible chapter to the closing of a very turbulent decade in American history. Todd Holman, Mesa, AZ.

A fetus is not the same as a baby, but it was still beyond vile, of course. They were a bunch of violent, mentally ill people. Charles Manson is one of the best arguments for PRO-CHOICE ever! He was unwanted by his parents, the mom having been a teenager and criminal.

I read Helter Skelter as a young teenager...probably should not have. The home invasion aspect of this horror has always stuck with me. This is why my home has an alarm system with motion sensors, and I have a .357 revolver. I wish I had a gun and could go back to 1969. I would have defended the Labiancas and Sharon Tate and her friends. I would have busted more than a few into those hippy freaks. How dare they invade the private property of another. How dare they harm a pregnant woman. How dare they terrorize a whole population.

I was a young kid in England when this happened. I remember it coming on as a newsflash at the end of a late night film we were watching on TV- it was school holidays so I was allowed to stay up late. They didn't know who had done it then we just got the horror of this multiple murder. I went to bed and I was terrified so to calm myself I thought -" These murders took place in L.A. - I'm in Manchester UK thousands of miles away. They would never come here in a million years" Several years later I discovered that the most violent of the Manson family"Tex" Watson, had in fact lived in Manchester's student district for a time on a visit to the UK. He enjoyed having his tea in Lewis's Restaurant. That's where my family used to go in those days. I felt a cold chill go down my spine when I read this.

I’m so sorry you had to discover that horrible murderer was once in your town. I wasn’t alive yet, but the murders Manson’s minions committed were appalling. Recently, Patricia Krenwinkle was granted parole, however, it was overturned by California’s governor. They were sentenced to death originally, so staying in prison until their death is the proper sentence.

Yes you are correct...Walking up the driveway was too conspicuous plus Manson knew Harold True, the next door neighbor, and had he been seen there nobody would have thought a thing about it. The killers walked up to Trues house and cut across the lawn. That house was targeted because the LaBiancas had called the cops on a party earlier with Manson and his Girls at the True house.

Awesome job! Side note though. I know it makes zero sense, but based on photos of the crime scene and then photos of the house on the market today (I'm comparing wall outlets and vents) the head of the bed was actually up against the sliding glass door. Strange, to say I know. Why wouldn't you want to look out at the those breathtaking views? But that's how the bed is for some reason. There is a crime scene photo of the bed with her little dog on it. The room has floor to ceiling curtains covering the entire walls on the two sides with windows. The curtains rodes are still up to this day. I don't know if they are the same ones, but it's definitely a strange arrangement and I don't know why someone wouldn't have changed it after all these decades. Thanks for filling in a lot of blanks. Raju enjoyed this post. Hope my puzzle piece helps you too.

Gotta love good old Charlie: he sends his people to the site and instructs them to commit murder--then leaves the killers stranded! The killers had to hitchhike back to Spahn Ranch. What a guru!

This is incorrect. It is possible that Mr. LaBianca’s previous residence on Working Way (about a half mile away) was once owned by Walt Disney, but I’ve seen no confirmation.
@addicted2baseballrgd21

That's not true. This is the house (3301 Waverly) that Leno grew up in. Leno and Rosemary bought the former Disney house (4053 Working Way), which is nearby. This is confirmed, as you can see the address on Rosemary's driver's license, that was recovered from the gas station, and placed into evidence. You can Google "Rosemary Labianca drivers license" , and an image of it, with the Disney house address will appear. The LaBianca's sold the Disney house, because it required a lot of work and money. They than bought Lenos childhood home from his mother.

Also I believe it was Walt Disney's uncle's house, and he used the garage as a studio, but never lived there. But not a 100% sure of that.

Some think the CIA program MK Ultra using LSD experiments played a role, others think that Roman and Voytek were dealing drugs out of the Cielo residence. There's a document floating around describing the FBI's awareness of drugs being shipped by Roman from Europe to the Cielo address. Some think it was Charlie's HS theories, while most will agree that a lifetime criminal conman like Manson simply directed his peeps to act out because Charlie hated being disrespected and never became the recording star Dennis Wilson, Neil Young, and others thought he could be. Charlie wanted revenge, and to show people he wasn't a nobody, kind of like the mass shooters in the modern era. They all know they are losers, and nothing's going to change that, so they act out in a final act or series of acts to show them. When Charlie was arrested at Spahn on Aug. 16th, along with everybody else, he asked why was he was being arrested. He was told car theft, and Charlie laughed. 10 days later, he, Tex, Bruce Davis, and Clem Grogan, dispatched Shorty Shea, thinking he was behind the raid on the 16th. Not too long after, they headed out to Barker for the duration of their soon to be sent to prison forever lives, except for Clem. He was paroled several years later and led authorities to the location of Shorty's remains.

It was the house really. Manson had been to a party next door to the Labiancas and apparently the labiancas called the police to complain about the noise....so he held a grudge and thats why they chose that house.

not possible the 210 freeway opened in 1976. the 134 ended in Glendale till it was built later in the early 70's to connect to it. There are many big houses or mansions along the arroyo seco in Pasadena and south Pas. The 118 did not exist along the north end of the valley in '69.

From reading about life in LA at the time, it seems there was a very free and easy atmosphere through the mid '60s, with musicians and film stars partying and visiting eachothers' houses without a care in the world. When the Manson murders happened, it scared the hell out of everyone and put an end to all of the fun and frivolity. Everyone closed their doors. I think the next few years were a pretty depressing time by comparison.

One word...."WOW"....What an alot of work went into this video. (And all the videos you do) Manson said to do something during your life so you'll be remembered, the world will know you were here or something like that, then he said;" Have a nice day" I'd rather be forgotten about then be remembered for doing the awfull unbelievable crap Manson & buds did. His victims were KILLED, while he got to live on for years & years on the tax payers dime & he died in prison. His victims may they be forever in heaven where no one can ever hurt them again.

marco antonio lofego lobo his name was Terry Melcher and Manson actually knew he didn’t live there any more. Several months before he went to the house looking for Melcher and Tate and her photographer answered the door and told Manson Melcher no longer lived there. The photographer was rude to Manson. The night of the murders Manson told Watson to go to Melcher’s former home and “destroy everyone there”. According to Watson, Manson told him to make it real messy.

You did a great job!! Maybe I didn't watch it carefully enough, or I'm a bit slow. I am just a little bit curious. I was pretty young at the time this all happened. I lived on Benedict Canyon Drive up more in the hill part. In order to get to that Waverley Drive did they make a right on Celio Drive off of Benedict Canyon Drive? All the kids talk about it afterwards since we all the pretty close to the murders. I have just never seen any details about it before because it hit a little too much close to home. I also thought it was all done at the same house. Because they call it the tate-labianca murders. I am so sorry that my ignorance but I have never delved into this before. Was it done at two houses because where was Sharon Tate murdered? Thank you so much for your time and for putting up with my ignorance on the terrible ordeal. You really did an amazing job with Google Earth and showing us everything I guess I do not have the story right... Thank you again!!

They were done in two, separate locations. The labiancas in their residence, and the rest at the Tate/Polanski residence. There was a social gathering at the Tate/Polanski home, thereby their guests were murdered as well. I don't know if the Manson family knew of this upcoming gathering, and was aware that the other victims would be there, or not. I would have to do some fact checking before I would say fir sure, but to answer your question, yes, these were two separate locations. Tate/Polanski the first night, and Labianca the next.
@tommyodonnell9

@@donnajackson2907 Respectfully disagree with the social gathering. Abigail and Voytek were living with Sharon until Polanski returned from Europe. Jay had come over to go to dinner with them. Poor Steve Parent, that kid was just trying to sell a radio to the caretaker.

Forrest Haggerty One of the reasons (besides his wanting Linda Kasabian to participate) that Charlie had her go both nights was that she was the only one with a valid driver's license. Linda should have done some things differently on both nights but between what had to be overwhelming fear for both her and her daughter Tonya's lives, she (above anyone else involved) was the right person to make the star witness for the prosecution. That said, once she was reunited with Tonya (she'd been taken to CPS after the raid on Spawn) Linda should have gone to the police.
