Devananda ...who is the interviewer... ? He is very good ... he shows that Japanese is not just words but it is tight interplay of exclamation, taking in of breath, agreeing, nodding, responding in kind ... there is a whole field of etiquette taking place here ...

I lived in Japan for two years and can say that The Japanese are the healthiest and most gracefully attractive people as they age. They are what the rest of us aspire for as we enter our golden years. I blame their amazing diet, active lifestyle and sense of social purpose. We in the west could learn much from the Japanese way of life.

One of my all-time favourite actors. His role in 'Inn of Evil' was brilliant even though Shintaro Katsu stole the show. As the young woodsman in Kawidan, he showed a very gentle side of his character. He's made so many great films, it would take me all night to list them.

@Cedar Woods Tatsuya Nakadai is that actor for me where you can't tell that its him acting, his characters always seem so real. I also find it interesting that he acted as Hanshiro Tsugumo, a 50 year old character, at 30 and as Hidetora Ichimonji, an 80 year old character, at 50. Harakiri is tied with Whiplash as my favorite film of all time and Nakadai is one of the reasons for that.

He is very professional actor. Many actors in Japan after their peak , sold themselves to the TV show and lost their dignity as an actor. But Mr. Nakadai is just doing actor's work. I knew him since I was a child and the first movie I watched was Onimasa by Hideo Gosha. All atomosphere of movies from Showa era is current Japanese can not make... it's more heavier, solemn, humane, sexy, mature, and still had an authentic, old-fashioned Japanese vibe.

What a pleasure this fine interview was. Nakadai was always one of my very favorite actors when saturating in the 70's with all the great Japanese Samurai films. Unfortunately for me, the interviewer did not explore the "Hot Eyes" aspect of Nakadai's screen persona, and for which he was duly famous. How did he come to that and what were his techniques to make it so compelling? Glad to see emphais on Sword Of Doom, a truly powerful film where one can sense the sword's soul and menace in and of itself, unlike any other film I've seen - there was a zen aspect to it. Thanks so much for posting this excellent insight of a truly great actor.
