Non-historical is not random, it only enables alternative paths with weighted chance, but it still favors historical paths. For truly random playthrough its actually needed tick random path for every country.

Non-historical are chaotic and yet very fun! Glad to see you play something like this!

Some relevant history: Pierre Laval, the 1936 starting leader of France in this game and also the starting leader of the fascist party of France if you go down the fascist tree, basically traveled the full length of the political spectrum. Around the time of World War 1 he was a socialist (and was a lawyer who frequently chose to defend strikers, unionists, and general leftists), then he shifted towards a conservative stance into the 1930's, and finally he became a willful and sympathetic collaborator of the Nazis when they occupied France. During his tenure in the government from 1934-1936 he frequently tried to appease Italy and maintain the Stresa Front against German expansionism - his plan to partition Abyssinia with Italy as a means of appeasing Mussolini was revealed to the public and resulted in very harsh public backlash against him, forcing him to resign and paving the way for Leon Blum's Popular Front to take power. He never explicitly took a fascist position before 1940, but it would seem like he had some... sympathies. Such is probably why he can become the leader of fascist France. It is a bit of a shame that neither diplomatic path allows him to stay as the leader, as his political power gain is quite nice.

It's kind of funny, how, in a way, playing full random makes it more like the real life, in that you have to spy on everyone all the time, to know what they are doing, as opposed to already knowing what's going to happen on historical.

Taueror, have you ever considered a truly random game of Hearts of Iron, by trying out the "Random Country Placement" mod? An idea for a video would be to start as Poland, see where in the world said Poland lands up (could be South America, etc) and then try to conquer back all the provinces in Europe, that make up current Polish borders :-) Oh, and restart if needed, until you get a fun/interesting starting position. Also, I recommend saying YES to random starting technologies, and DONE when the mod asks about factions.

I am still waiting for the day you do 1936 France and deny the Rhineland.

The reason why you had the convoy raided penalty isn't because people were buying from you. You had lands that could only be accessed by sea. So for those areas to receive supplies & you to get the resources from them. You were using convoys which were the ones being sunk.

Regarding the Soviet civil war and resulting (lack of a) peace conference, obviously that outcome was weird and buggy but I believe what is intended is that civil wars always give all territory to one of the claimants no matter who else ends up intervening. Probably what ought to have happened was for Kamenev to annex Stalin after the latter capitulated and for you to remain in a regular war with Kamenev at that point. But the whole mechanic is so awkward it's usually best to avoid civil wars entirely as a third party.

You should try setting every countries’ paths to random

I agree with what another commenter said, that it is more random if you set every nation manually to random compared to just unticking historical AI focuses. Maybe it's just placebo, but I did saw more randomness with the manual random method.

Gosh, I really wish I knew how people manage themselves with large-scale combat like this x) I enjoy the beginning of games when I only have to worry about fighting one, maybe two places at once, three being a stretch I can manage. But beyond that, when you're fighting entire factions, I lose so fast because I get so confused and flustered by it all. >.

You should see about doing some good old Mass Effectt videos. I would love a video on OP build guides or fun builds. I have played enough to the point that Insanity is my normal mode. But would be interesting to see if you know of any other ways to play the game. I remember Sentinel being pretty OP on Insane. With all the shield boosting items mixed with the right squadmate. You can have shields on par with "story mode" where it's almost impossible to die.

I prefer NHF - the player tends to not go for historical focuses anyway so it gives the AI some freedom. Also things get more difficult to plan for and anticipate this way (Germany-Poland, Italy-Greece, etc...)

Surely you could have attacked Luxembourg or Switzerland to go to war with the British and avoid Czechoslovakia.

Personally I prefer playing non-historical. As human player you already make it non-historical. On top of that you know what the AI is going to do giving you an advantage.
