I think a mistake often with the discussion of gentrification is to blame the people who are moving in to the neighborhoods instead of focusing that blame entirely on the socioeconomic systems in place (and the lack of action taking place to revert those systems in cities). The people moving in are just trying to find a good deal on housing and you can’t really blame them for that

So good. Also, yes, tired of seeing a daily play by play in the media about Taylor Swift. Nothing against her at all...she's talented and like dude said, I have to think to name one of her songs...but some media people like to talk about her every day and that just amplifies the little feedback loop on her popularity that makes them go "OMG, people are really talking about Taylor Swift" in the same way that Trump or Fox News says "people are really talking about...(this thing I just talked to you about)". It doesn't mean we are all interested in hearing about her every day.

Taylor swift is half as talented as many people that I’ve toured with. She’s white… so, that didn’t help me. Her parents are well off.. that a huge part of it. They pushed her to exploit herself early on and supported it. She’s a woman, and woman support women just because of their sex/gender. The news is full of bad news because our politics and society is a house of cards. It’s all an illusion and the news sells anything that makes people feel hopeful or distracted from the realities of life. Suckers care about Taylor swift. Reality is that she doesn’t care about them… she’s very fortunate and should be tripped and very grateful. Her Swifty’s are young and ignorant consumers… that’s probably why the news and other corporations use her or whatever else is “trending” in order to pander to these people and also to stay relevant… which is just one tiny little perspective… the illusion is f the entertainment industry.

yeah I don't get the rabid obsession with people who are good performers but average singers/musicians like Beyonce, Taylor, etc...there are way better out there like you said. I feel like those popular performers are for people who don't mind auto-tune and bad lyrics and think if they are told the person is the best it's true. Marketing magic

Same and I'm from India ...Black Americans live in a bumble thinking Taylor Swift only has White fans cus they compare her fans in America while forgetting she's a global phenomenon and has fans outside America who r no very white like ...idk Asia!💀 And that's her second biggest market after North America...and In my country she has a huge following.

While I'm not African American, I've had the privilege of joining a friend for his Black Church service a few times. Ayo there's 40 year old choir singers that will out-sing, out-perform and most likely out-cook TayTay everyday of the week. Tay is good and I generally like her but the comparisons I hear are wild

Thanks for calling out on Taylor Swiftie. I am Tanzanian and I have no idea why Taylor Swift is such a big name in music. I checked out her music videos on KZfaq and I couldn't feel any of them. I am really surprised what the Swifties like in that music. There's good white music that I am feeling the vibe of. Stuff like "Dream on" (Aerosmith) "Born in USA" "Still loving you" "These boots are made for walking" "Bad Romance" (Lady Gaga) "Frozen" (Madona) "Genie in the bottle" (Aguilera, and this was truly the shit... it was a dope hit) But Taylor Swift...!? Nothing! I can't feel anything at all from her music.

It's for the young generation who's all abt relationships and feelings...they relate to those feelings...she has loads of fans fr china who study english and can also understand her English and they also relate to all those feelings. Im not a fan either but to each his own.

The generational dynamic might be the only way to explain it. But Cher (70s), Madonna (80s), Britney (90s), Gwen Stefani (00s),Lady Gaga and Katy Perry(10s) have been killing it for decades. We all can't just be old all of a sudden...could we? 😂😂

A lot of people in the audience were not ready to hear that. He's not saying crazy shit but people at a comedy show and laughing at jokes and enjoying themselves so its easy to forget we live in a world where a demographic of people had such a visceral reaction to a fictional mythical character was played bt a black woman. It's like did the Larry bird punchline even sink in?!
