the “Show Off” Narrative is tired and is often rooted in Jealousy, the Star Spangled Banner is an epic song that should convey emotion and evoke emotion from an audience, a simple rendition is fine but some of the BEST that have ever been done are by folks you’d consider “Show offs”

During this game, Taylor was 18 years old and had already made 2 country albums (writing all the songs). Thirteen years later and she has sold over 200 million records globally. She has done all of the above with an independent streak. It is no surprise she sang the National Anthem as she did, as she chose, and she will do again.

And 16 years later, by the end of the Eras tour, it is projected that she will have boosted the US economy by over 5 billion dollars. What an amazing powerhouse. (Of course, we should’ve foreseen that when she was only 14 years old, and convinced her parents to pack up and move 3 states away.)

@@ssgssgi For professionals who are just beginning, there are certain cities which are centers of the music industry. They offer more choices as far as record labels, producers, and venues for performing. Nashville has always been the largest hub for country music, which was Taylor’s first genre. It’s similar to the actors who are just starting out, and usually have to move to New York or Los Angeles.

I thought this was a really sweet version of this song. Almost like a lullaby. I love Taylor. She’s talented, no matter what you may say. Her songs are fun, and she writes them all, herself. This was far better than the loud, obnoxious screeching we usually hear; from people over doing it, and trying too hard. This was believable and honest.

I know what you mean. Taylor is free in herSelf. So, she carries the song with it's meaning...not making it all about the final note as a singer, but the heart of the song from the heart. Just her natural singing. Bless her.

I've always been a Swift fan, but this performance was NOT up to her standards. The biggest problem was her guitar accompaniment. She simply SKIPPED many of the small/quick chord-changes which made the song sound... awkward/not-whole at several moments. She's always had very high standards, and good sense, musically. So, I'm kind of surprised she would have given such an amaturish guitar performance.

It would have been 'the sweetest and calmest rendition' if she'd have played the proper guitar chords. She flat-out MISSED many of the quick transition chords, which made the song sound awkward. You actually thought it sounded 'sweet'? At times, the notes she sang and the notes she played CLASHED. I've always been a fan of hers, but this was NOT one of her best efforts.

Did Jimi Hendrix need a guitar to play the National Anthem, or should he have just walked on stage and sang it? @@danielhkhk7283 I wouldn't say it's "aweful", but she DID play such a simplified, amaturish guitar accompaniment... skipped all the key-changes that make the song sound 'whole' and 'complete'. I actually love and respect T.S., which is why I'm a bit shocked that she would do such a thing. Did she think it was 'stylistically unique'? Or does she simply lack the finger-talent to make those little chord-changes? It's hard for me to call anything she does "aweful", but compared to her STANDARDS, it's kind of aweful.

@@danielhkhk7283 Exactly. I don't understand why she would do that. She's always been so talented and sharp about these kinds of things. The only thing I can think of is that the Key she's singing in has very difficult chord-changes, and she just got 'lazy', or just isn't talented enough to play the guitar part properly, in that key.

This is one of the best versions of the national anthem ever. Taylor was 18 at the time. As well as Having over 300 award nomination and over 200 wins, including; 7 Grammys, 6th place on All time wins list for American Music Awards, Most Billboard Awards, most Writer/artist awards from the Nashville Songwriters Association. She Is the only artist in history with 3 million plus album sales weeks. Dozens of music hall of fame artists including, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Lionel Ritchie, Steven Tyler, Stephen Stills, Stevie Nicks, etc. have praised her. So unless you have gotten this kind of recognition stop criticizing her.

I know She’s not Beyoncé, she’s not Mariah Carey (one of my favourite singers) nor Lady Gaga (My favourite singer, I guess) but She has a voice different from the other artists’ ones. It isn’t too powerful, it’s just so sweet and heartwarming, it’s more like a lullaby and don’t forget she writes gorgeous lyrics, she was just about 17 or something like this, she was also playing the guitar and she DIDN’t sing out of tune. So please, stop hating her because of nothing. Hope you did understand what I meant to say even if some mistakes (Don’t hate me, I’m Italian)

Taylor was born on 12/13/89. This game was on 10/25/08. Now, 10/25/08 - 12/13/89 = 18 years, 10 months, 12 days. So her age here was 18, but only 7 weeks short of 19 (give or take a few hours). It is amazing how people cannot do basic arithmetic.

I may be biased as a Taylor Swift stan but this was a thousand times more respectful than most renditions. Most go for spectacle and high notes when it should be about feeling pride and hitting the proper notes.

I don’t get why everyone says she isn’t a strong vocalist. She just normally chooses to sing softer, especially in her older music. She has a pretty good range (listen to New Romantics and Out of the Woods and you’ll hear it). She was young so cut her some slack. She has a clear voice and can hold notes and doesn’t glide in any of her songs.

Because she's pitchy and shrill. She's improved a lot. But she would not have been a famous artist prior to the auto-tune era. There are plenty of high schoolers that sing better than her both then and now. I'm not denying that she hasn't worked hard and continues to work hard. She also happened to have a lucky break that many more talented than her didn't get. It wasn't just talent. Again, she's improved a lot. She's worked hard. I'm car you think I'm a hater, I listen to her a lot--I like her lyrics. I just don't listen to her live performances, especially her early ones because they are pitchy and shrill. (And in my music, I usually prefer live performances of songs because they have more energy and authenticity.) I think a lot of haters don't give her credit for how hard she has worked to improve her vocal technique. But I can like her music and still say that she's not the most talented vocalist out there. (I've studied music longer than she's been alive.) Her arrangement of this song is nice though. (Like the chords and stuff.) Simple. But nice.
