Video of my DIY Camp Kitchen, AKA the TBS Chuck Box that I designed and built to take care camping. Made of MDO plywood which is a good choice for outdoors. Video shows an overview of the Chuck Box, some of the construction and what camp cooking gear I fill the Chuck Box with.
Designed to be small enough to fit in the back of a BMW X3 yet provide lots of space to store items and countertop space.

I wish I had KZfaq when I was a young canyoneer. I might still try it though since your plans are so well thought out. Your voice is calming as well and you did a great video.

You should definitely try it if you like to go car camping. It's worked it great for me. I did replace some of the utensils with shorter ones I found. The year before I built it I don't a lot of time trying different configurations, measuring and remeasuring my cargo area and all my gear to make sure it would work out. Thanks for saying my voice is soothing. Honestly I cringe everyone I post a video because I don't think my voice sounds like what I think it does. I still have a lot to learn about making videos.

5:05 - That is one healthy and delicious omelette! I am coming over to your campsite for lunch! You did not go over the build much at all, just the contents and cooking. Show us how you built and assembled it, some views of sides and back. Nice, compact box. Right size and weight for a car. Well done.

Wow... I didn't know I needed one of these. I wish every project I tried like this didn't end up like a disaster so I could make my own chuck box. Super cool! Thanks for sharing.

Quit making excuses. If your life depended on it, you would make the best chuck box ever made - on the first go. So go to the lumber yard and start building. Make good measurements, and good joins, that is the key. The rest is easy. You are not trying hard enough and making too many excuses for laziness.

This chuck box is awesome and your step by step guide was super helpful and detailed. I made this at the beginning of covid and have been using it ever since. Painted it the same color and everything although i decided to start covering it with stickers of my journeys. Finally got around to making the sawhorse stand recently. I really like how the doors serve as a support for the table top and the doors have useful space.

Good job. I am considering building one for me, but need some extra space. I use a gasoline stove, and have family size cook kit. I think I am going to have to custom design my own...

Great build! Maybe I missed it but what is the weight of your box fully loaded?
@TomBuildsStuff
@TomBuildsStuff 2 жыл бұрын
It's pretty heavy but I'm able to move it myself but two is preferred. I haven't weighed it but based on how much mdo I used it has to be 40-50 lbs.

Thanks for sharing. Like the functionality, including space to store both stove and grill grate. Did you know you can get wooden plugs to fill (hide) the pocket holes? They are shaped at the same angle.
@TomBuildsStuff
@TomBuildsStuff 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I've used the plugs on some projects when I'm concerned about the appearance and I don't think I will need to take it apart to make changes. This had been perfect so far. The only change I made was getting shorter spatulas that for better.

@@TomBuildsStuff Why use pocket screwing when you could have used conventional drilling, countersinking, screwing and gluing through into ends of boards? No special jig needed. Quicker easier, stronger and looks better.
@TomBuildsStuff
@TomBuildsStuff 3 жыл бұрын
I like pocket screws and I found them to be sufficiently strong for my needs, especially when also using glue. I don't find using the jig slower. I also like the look without exposed screw heads. To countersink and leave rom to fill would eat up a lot of the 1/2" thick mdo.
@theosalt1
@theosalt1 3 жыл бұрын
Fair comment. When you make all that effort to produce an attractive project looks do matter. I must try pocket screws myself especially as you consider them strong enough in the circumstances. Enjoyed your video.
