This recording includes orchestral arrangement for Etudes XI and XII-Finale from Schumann's Symphonic Etudes: a solo piano composition cataloged as Opus 13.
In despite of the original composition is intended to be a set of studies, Tchaikovsky takes his liberty to blend in his own cantabile line with transforming the chordal passage played by strings section to an accompaniment for a solo group of woodwinds and later briefly appearing violin to make it feel like a slow movement of a concerto.
The Allegro is entirely built on Schumann's voice with further developing the themes present in the section building up a dialogue between instrument sections--as an example, brass instruments and strings section at 6:25 onwards. The energetic motif of 8 beats is packed in almost every single measure that you are able to hear the rhythm in full force even it is not the principal theme being developed [3:39] and [6:25].
