My observation: Yes, TPA3116 is more powerful than TDA7297 but the TPA is much lesser Trebles compared to TDA7297 and other class AB amps like STK402-030. I have a TPA3116d2 and im comparing it with my class AB amps (TDA7297 and my JVC MX-GA8V with an STK 402-030 inside of it). I guess Class D amplifiers is lesser when we talking about clarities. Suggestions: If you're finding an amplifiers that is used for subwoofers go for Class D and if you're finding an amplifiers that is used for full range drivers go for Class AB Amplifiers. I HV both. Tested both at various voltages and with different speakers. 3116 is louder but 7297 wins in sound quality. This is what I found.

Did you use the upper end of the suggested voltage and amperage. The lower you go the distortion increases so if you want to be fair about it, if that 50w x 2 say it can run at 8v~24v go with 24v

I have the TDA 7297 and it is amazing. Put a couple of of resistors (1kΩ) on the input (ground to right and ground to left) to get rid of the little hiss it has (every D class amp has some and it works on all)

That digital Amp works much better at 24v. I used to ran mine at 12v, after I changed my psu it sounded noticeably better. Also the digital produces 50w at 4ohms at 24v. At 12v 8ohms it only produces 10w.

well how do i explain it i don't know. i have a logitech USB speaker (S150) its a small usb speaker not mush special about it but what special about it shift sound right to left kind of like in this video but better and makes surrounding type of effect, i am looking for a amp that can produce this kind of sound. The effect is present in the video but not much may b because of microphone i don't know. can you suggest any amp or 7297 can produce this kind of effect.

You can't get enough power to get 15 W or even 50 W out of a 12 V power supply. Both amplifiers operate in bridged configuration. The TDA7297 operates in class AB mode, The TPA3116 in class D mode. Both amplifiers are limited by the power supply to about 10 to 12 Wrms @ 4 Ohm load. The decision between them is therefore not a question of output power. It is more about noise, harmonic distortion and linearity. Within your electro-acoustic chain and with this kind of music material you will not find significant differences. Typically the speaker are the weekest part of the electro-acoustic chain and so it is here. Computer-generated music is not a useful "software" for testing. You need more classical music with flutes, violins, violas, chellos, pianos. I suggest to use Renaissance music like the kind of Antonio Vivaldi (Four Seasons).

Don't confuse gain for maximum output power. The TPA 3116 is a class "D" switchmode amplifier, while the TDA 7297 is a half bridge analog amplifier. The TDA7297 sounds much better, because it doesn't have the passive lowpass filters used by the pulse width modulated TPA 3116. The gain may be set a little less on the switcher, but, depending on supply voltage, can produce much more power. On the analog amp, the output power is approximately 70% of 1/2 the supply voltage squared, then divided by the impedance of the speaker. On the switch mode amp, the power is 70% of the FULL supply voltage squared, then, divided by speaker impedance. If the analog amp uses 24 volts,(+- 12 volts) and you apply 12 volts to the switcher, the output will be the same in the same impedance speaker.

did you use the recommended tpa3116 voltage of 24 volts to meet design wattage? the TDA 7297 is 12 volt recommended. I am using tpa 3116d2 120wattsx2 21 volts sound is clear and deeper bass.

Yes salute brother.. because of you i really tried to buy a 2x15w amp and i cannot believe it because i plug it to my subwoofer 200w and that works pretty fine with no distortion or skipping. So i buy more of them like 4 of them and then i tried to make an amp connect to my marantz equalizer and yeah i tell you its like a (stereo wide) and very cool though

Speakers is the final bit of a amplifier circuits that speaker your using may sound better on that amp has to do with ohms and wattage if your not powering up the 2x50 watt amplifier with the right amount of amperage or voltage and ohms and wattage speakers it will not function to its best ability So u can’t determine from the same speaker which is better And u still got to know the deference between rms and watt Cause u can get confused by that

I had a tda 20W mono, but build my own power supply, my own radiator snd box, had distorsion when no aux imput was on but despite that sounded great when phone was conected was more clear & had bass could operate even with big disco speakers gave it to a noob friend for free & don’t know what he even did with it😢, now I have this tpa3116 but doesen’t have real bass & sound quality, you can see in my video the only bonus is the bluetooth, still tested only on 12V 1A wasn’t able to connect my 18.5V 3A from my hp

The signal comming into the amp needs to be higher, an amp needs to be at full power way less than full power on the volume control so it also can play songs that are not recorded loud at max volume/wattage, thats why many play max volume at 12 o'clock or less

7279has much higher gain than tpa3116, but max output is much lower on 7279. If you get a high gain pre amp then you can take advantage of 3116 50w output.

The Breeze Audio amp uses two TPA3116 chips, while that other one appears to just use a single one. Well, my Breeze Audio uses two at least. I know that they aren't all the same. I think the Breeze Audio is "good for what it is", i.e. a super cheap mini amp that you can get out when you need to test a pair of speakers, just to make sure they aren't faulty or something. I wouldn't use it for a daily driver though.

I have a TDA7377 and it sounds great. I guess the bigger brother to the one you have there.

Actually that tiny tpa amp can produce 60 watt rms at 1% thd per channel at 24 volts into 4 ohms.u just need a pre amp.but for hifi it gives 30 watts rms at .1% distortion which is just awesome. These ampsbare great for subs and these are very energy efficient. Class ab doesn't come close to these tiny amps in terms of power and efficiency.

By powering TPA with 12V instead of e.g. 26V (its maximum rated voltage), you are getting out just 21% of its rated power. If you wish to compare power output of amps, you must drive each at their recommended maximum voltage. That's what they were designed for. Power output of an amp is relative to square of supply voltage: double your supply voltage and you get four times power output. And no, powering both with 12V does not make it for a fair comparison. It is like comparing 110V and 220V light bulb plugged into a 110V power line and then finding out that the 220V bulb does not produce the expected output. Doing what you've done just reveals that you don't really have a clue what you are doing.

The TDA is a Class AB amp, so it should produce better audio quality than the TPA which is a Class D amp. Class D amp will be more power efficient, but introduce more noise.

The wrong opinion is class D is more noise and distort. The new technology of Class D can make the best efficial amlipier with clarify sound!

TDA should sound better on higher frequencies as it is class AB amplifier. Make sure you using proper power supply with voltage set to the amp's allowed max voltage. Remember P(power) = U(voltage)^2/R(speaker impedance) in ideal situation. THIS IS NOT A CAR AMP! Car amps have voltage boost circuit witch boost 12V to 50V or something. With 12V powered amp hooked with 4 ohm speaker max you can get is 12^2/4 = 36W and even less due to amp's efficiency (take a look at datasheet for specific IC).

your TPA 3116 amplifier does not have the output chokes with the red toroidal ferrite of 22uH, and does not have the necessary power supply of 19-20V minimum.

You ran the TPA3116 at the wrong voltage and impedance for the 50W rating. At 12V 8Ohm, they indeed only output a little over 10W per channel. At the rated voltage of 26V, good TPA3116 boards run almost dead flat 50W per channel at 10% distortion and 45ish at 0.1% distortion, just like the chip rating lists.

Probably the TPA3116 is a fake one. you can check it cause the original TPA3116 has 32pins and the fake only 16. the fake one is in reality a CS8673E chip.

You could check datasheets out first. THD and at which voltage. Both are so so. But D is also dry. 1% THD cannot be “good”, “amazing”, and so on. You have a mind, don’t you?

tda7297 is much better. i mean cmon the tpa3116 is an ic. i mean i had that tpa before and it IC it just collapsed like 30 minutes you know... and i start using tda7297 and yeah im still using this tda7297 and i order it like 2019 and now its 2023 so judging by amplifiers i prefer to use power transistor than power ic..
