The Team Associated 91786 differential fits many of their vehicles: B6.1 B6.2 B6.3 SC6.1 SC6.2 T6.1 T6.2. I show how to build it fist and talk about basics.
At minute 13:02 I compare the two by showing how they spin
At minute 14:02 I show runs with the ball differential
At minute 15:23 I show runs with the gear differential
Only the differential changed. All else is the same.

I just got the regular diff. My sct has the ball diff that come with the kit. I am new at racing and not sure to go thick or thin fluid. Temps at the time are in the 50’s outside but is usually around 70 when racing indoors. Also I was told the ball diff is for outdoors use and the fluid diff is for indoors. Does it really matter?

A gear diff. makes a large difference on carpet. I think I shaved over a second off of my lap times just by switching. Now, I am running 100K WT because I do not have much rear droop. If I were running more droop in the rear, I would probably go with 40K WT. But I like the way it drives as it is now.

Why not use thinner diff fluid and use it on dirt? Less maintenance.

Because I drive it on carpet 😁 Joke, but yes. Thinner diff fluid on a seal diff for dirt is great in my opinion because there is far... far less maintenance. You thought process is spot on.

Because it’s slower than a ball diff.

Hi. Probably a silly question, but what thickness fluid would you recommend for dirt ?

I just bought a used b6.1 and the rear hubs are schelle brand, every time I tighten the wheel onto the axle it starts to like grind. On both sides. I push the axle thru the hole, then put the pin in, put the hex on and clamp it down. It spins perfectly. As soon as I tighten the tire on it starts to bind really bad like the hex is getting pushed into the bearing. I tried putting a washer under the pin and still the same thing happens. It does this on both sides. I just got back into the hobby and got this car today. Well the racing part of the hobby, ive had bashers for years.

The washer under the pin will make it bind more. There is usually a shim there to protect the bearing only. TLR has some nice Al hexes that have a conical back. Those may work as they do not make contact with the bearing shield like a washer would. Try those.

@@telecomandorc Id post a pic here but cant, you can see the shaft isnt coming all the way into the bearing. Maybe these hubs are for a b6.2 and need the longer axle.

@@ripsaw2322 Received. I took a look. The hexes are the correct ones. Similar to the ones I suggested, so do not replace them. The +2mm shafts the guy will send you should do the trick. The face of the inner race of the bearing looks like it has marks or ware for friction with the hex. They are just too short. Once you get the longer shafts you should be able to use the 0.2-0.3 shim between the bearing and pin to protect the bearing from more ware. You may want to remove the bearing shield to make sure the inside of the bearing is good. Long story short, the +2mm shafts should do the trick.
