I’m not a climber, but watching Hazel inspires me to get through my physical therapy. After 25 years of horrible knee pain, I’ve had two knee replacements in six months. Thank you Hazel for the inspiration to be me again!

I'm recovering from a wrist fracture (snapped my distal radius and now have a metal plate that will stay in me forever). Had the surgery 11 months ago. Physio has been tough and painful but I'm nearly there now. I've been back at climbing and weight lifting for months now. Not quite 100% there yet but I'm close now. Great video, really resonates with me!

I’m in the same boat. In between needing two hip surgeries, but still wanting to do the things I love; rock climbing being one of the them. Sending it on Saturday. Such a great and inspiring video!

Wow, great vid, I feel your pain; I had the same operation 5 years ago, climbed again after 6 months - should have asked the surgeon if I'd be able to climb 8c after, ;-).

I had a bad sprained ankle February 3rd 2020. It has taken me out of the gym for over a month. Now with the coronavirus and gyms closing their doors it’s been even longer since I climbed. Stories like this are inspiring. Being out a couple months is nothing compared to the long journey back from a shoulder surgery. Very inspiring!

I’m struggling with a shoulder injury right now too, and it’s incredibly frustrating to feel like I’ve lost a lot of the progress I made in the past year. Took a break and am back at it, but watching Hazel struggle with not being able to go out and do what she loves really struck a chord with me. It felt all too familiar. What a role model, though. Cried a little at the end there. Love her. ❤️❤️

I've had the same thoughts after getting my shoulder surgery (It took like a year or so to heal properly to be able to climb again). What a great accomplishment to Hazel, happy to see her climbing at her best.

I've had the same injury and surgery as her. It sucked. But what made it worse was I had already had a bankart tear and surgery for that...then about 6 years later, suffered a slap tear in the same shoulder. It was not pleasant. Shouldn't have been able to happen. But slap tears are usually come down to straight up over-use. The human shoulder is essentially the most poorly and unstable connection area in our bodies. What they can withstand is amazing. But the socket is so shallow that any type of extreme overuse is going to cause issues. They heal, but they are never the same again.

I am literally in a sling right now after having almost the same op after dislocating my shoulder during climbing. 😭 Good to see that the recovery is possible though. Right now I can’t really do much at all.

A university friend had that shoulder operation. I think the said her surgeon was from the Montreal Alouettes football club? She couldn't even hold a briefcase without her arm popping out of her shoulder. She took up scuba diving. Good one, Ms Findlay!

I have severe tendinitis in my right elbow. The pain of not doing what I love (tree work) is worse than the impossible pain in my arm.

Give the body part a break when it tells you chronically ‘something is wrong with me’ by means of pain (inflammation/infection). Overuse is a serious issue that can have life long complications. Heal that stuff, completely. I wish you all the best, Ms Hazel - not to compromise too much of your health 🍀🌞

Goes to show that the mind has to be just as strong as the muscles. I had a full hip replacement when I was young due to injury and I made my self rehab and walk without a limp. Sounds easy right ? But to actually relearn to walk without a limp or protecting the weaker part of your body really takes effort .... her therapist said it all ... she was protecting the shoulder .... bet you she didn’t even realize she was doing it either.

She is only 5’2” 😯. Height is no excuse in climbing. Sometimes being too tall is even a drawback. There’s a strength to weight ratio which also factors in the cost/benefit of length (height). If you are taller you have longer limbs so you can reach a little further, but at the same time it takes the taller person more energy to get there. Moral of the story is Hazel Finley is awesome 😎 lol
