Jeff - A good friend of mine who is an electrician and instrument tech has a saying and that is: "Go slow to go fast". Take your time to make sure of what you are doing and save the rework. Otherwise, the project is going well and can't wait to see the first time you mate the cab to the frame.

We used to get them in as a cab chassis for making Winnebagos with a custom coachwork. They would come with a temporary drivers seat and seat belt and you had to wear a helmet to drive it since it was classed as an open wheeler. My grandparents would still have a temporary seat lying around somewhere! You could use the bus to haul off the scrap from the bus!

That poor old Coaster TRUCK will never be the same again. Guess your neighbors are used to a bit of noise Jeff. I remember using my angle grinder through the day on some of my projects, feeling guilty trying to minimize the noise. I subsequently found out I legally could pretty well make a racket until 9pm at night. I used to shut it off at sunset, my neighbor owned guns and sometimes held noisy all night parties. They never complained about me nor I them.

When I did my Cobra kit car my friend and I stripped down an ‘86 Mustang GT using the drivetrain, brakes, and fuel systems. I reused the wire harnesses and done a wire diet as we yanks call it removing unnecessary wiring to lighten the emissions crap! Tackling the wiring was the most intensive extensive task, time consuming and tedious amount of work. However having the original shop manual wire diagrams was my savior. Because I failed to mark everything when I removed it all… However, it is most satisfying when everything comes together and appreciate taking the time to do it correctly. Cannot wait to see how it goes for you!
@kent3917
@kent3917 25 күн бұрын
Jeff, Convert it to 12 volts. Use a Land Cruiser ute wiring harness and it will be very close to what you need with out much modification. It will save you time, money and frustration. The Coaster wiring is a nightmare from experience and you will be pulling out most of it anyway with safety interlocks to bypass and other unwanted features.

One good thing about diesels is the amount of stall torque available. Put it in gear, engine at idle, don't touch the throttle and lift the clutch till it bites, then ease the clutch out a bit more and the engine will respond with loads of torque - right up to max torque. Very useful when manoeuvring. So you didn't really need to worry about that throttle stop system just to get the chassis in the garage!

Loved all the additional "SCORES" on the bus. If nothing else, trade goods are always useful to car people. I have no idea what all of those pipes, tubes, lines and thing a ma jigs were in that rat's nest under the floor , behind the engine; I'm Toyota has some clear purpose or at least some government bureaucrat did when they required it! I have no insight into your local registration regulations, but since you will most likely be using the vin from the bus, you may need to keep a lot of that to maintain minimum original function. Some of the Locost forums I have spent time on had Aussies really into the beer about your engineering and title rules. Some states in the US are similar. The only advice have ever thought worth a candle is don't whizz on the bureaucrats, it almost always can/will get worse! Ms. Jeff, it must be refreshing not needing those tongue twisting Italian words and terms!

Man, looking at the empty bus before you started yanking windows, I's have been really tempted to figure out a rear door and ramp system. Outdoor weatherproof storage for the Alferrari.. My two cents: I don't think bench seating for three across the entire cab is the way to go. Instead of setting it up to carry as many passengers as it can, you should set it up to carry the passengers that it mostly likely will. Which is you and potentially Mrs. Jeff. Everything else about the cab interior should be set up with comfort and convenience in mind. It's not just your show car that you want to spare the wear and tear of road-tripping, it's you too that needs to arrive to the shows rested and not road weary. That means quiet. comfortable and convenience. So two nice comfortable seats and maybe a center console with a small fridge and the like. Things to make your time on the road feel effortless.
