Hello!
So Tears of the Kingdom is out and it's great! However, as I was looking at the critical reception for the game, I've noted a few people wondering whether Tears of the Kingdom is really deserving to be called a new game, or if it's just Breath of the Wild Again? That’s a fair concern so, hey, why not talk about it. Is TOTK just a BOTW DLC, or does it deserve to stand on its own?

Nice video! I personally would have loved an even more fleshed out story, with more information about the different characters, because there were so many cool npcs I would have loved to get to know better :) Looking forward to your next one!

Great video! Thank you for acknowledging all the similarities, I started feeling like I was the only one noticing them while everyone was praising the game like that wasn't even an issue...if it weren't for the underground part I would have felt very disappointed. I feel like, for me, the most exciting part about any Zelda game is discovering its world, so knowing that the regular map is basically the same with some small tweaks took a big chunk of the excitement away from me once I started playing. So I spend most of my time exploring the underground map, it gives me so much joy =D

I think this is a uncharitable take on the overworld simply because 1. well there is the sky island and the depths, and all three levels play off each other in different ways through quests, treasure hunting, items collection etc. and 2. they changed a ton of the original map. I mean there are over 130 caves to explore, plus more linear and fleshed out quest lines that change the way the world operates, even outside the main line quests. the Hateno and Lurelin quests alone are great examples of this. The only times i ever felt like i was playing breath of the wild was when I wasn't engaging in the new systems that were implemented. like just walking around but that's easily fixed when you decide "hey instead of walking here im going to make a car or a bike or a plane". Which is why i think the Korok challenges and the Addison puzzles are great ways of literally forcing you to engage in the new systems and get your imagination going. Anyway just my two cents. I get where your coming from though!

Dude, great video! I haven't played it yet, this didn't really spoil much for me but gave me a ton of context for what I'd be getting into. Your overall point about the tonal differences is really compelling.

Great analysis! I think the caves and wells also add to making the game feel more alive. I played both games on release and, I can't really explain why, but TOTK was much more impactful to me. I think it comes to three things: the story, the problem solving, and the depths. In particular with the depths, I had NO idea it was in the game until I jumped into a chasm out of curiosity. I haven't had a surprise like that since playing Link to the Past and discovering the Dark World as a kid.
