THESE PROCEDURES ARE NOT FOR WALKER ENGINE OIL.
They are specific to the Hydro-Gear ZT3100 Transaxles found on the Walker Model S14, S14i, and S18 lawn mowers.
The Walker's first oil change should be after the initial break-in period, around 75-100 hours.
Thereafter, oil should be changed every 400 hours.
Use only 20w-50 motor oil
Approximately 78oz should be used to fill each transaxle
DRAIN STEPS
1. Start with the deck removed from your Walker Mower
2. Clean the exterior of the reservoir housing and remove the cap for venting.
3. Remove the blower receiver cone to access the drain plugs.
4. Use 11/16 wrench or socket to remove the drain plug on the inside, bottom of each transaxle.
5. Remove the oil filter guard in order to remove and discard the oil filter.
6. Before installing the new filter, wipe a small amount of oil onto the new filter's gasket.
7. Tighten the new filter 3/4 turn after the gasket makes initial contact with the transaxle surface.
8. Reinstall the filter guard, drain plug, and blower housing cone.
REFILL STEPS
1. For Model S14 and S14i, remove the reservoir and retainer to access the filling opening.
2. Remove the oil reservoir hose and elbow to access the filling opening.
3. Fill the transaxle with with approximately 78oz of 20w-50 motor oil.
4. On the fill cap elbow, back off the locking nut until it rests against the elbow housing.
5. Tighten the elbow using the lock nut to ensure the elbow is pointing toward the interior of the tractor.
6. Reinstall the reservoir hose.
7. Fill the reservoir to the "full line" with additional 20w-50 motor oil.
8. With the mower wheel off the ground, start the engine and place the transition into reverse by pulling back on the appropriate steering lever.
9. Run the transaxle for at least one minute to circulate the oil and purge any air through the reservoir.
10. Refill the reservoir to the "full line" with additional 20w-50 motor oil.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If the transaxle are unusually noisy or whining after the oil change there is likely air still trapped in the transaxle. With the mower on blocks repeat the air purging steps until they operate normally. Occasionally, steering adjustments are necessary after an oil change. Refer to your owner's manual, Walker Dealer, or our TECH MINUTE video on that topic.
