I am a massive TMNT fan too! I “had” to have both sets too, but I was never able to secure an order for the SDCC set and refused to pay scalper prices. I am happy that I got the GS set. I am actually quite surprised the GS ones came with as many accessories as it did. I wasn’t expecting them to even come with extra hands.

I would say the pretty much no need to buy the SDCC set at this point. Since the differences are so minor.

I have both sets of the TMNT As of right now I remove the San Diego Comic-Con turtles out of their container but right now they're back in. But I'm a fan since I was born in the 80s. They are all very nice. Thank you for your review.

Yeah, I put my SDCC ones back in the box and am displaying the GS ones. I grew up watching the TMNT cartoon and had to have these. Loved the movies of the 90's.

Didn't have a pre order for these with GameStop and the store didn't have them yesterday or today. It was out of stock online yesterday and today when I checked it was back in stock. Ordered the whole group today.

I just got the Gamestop set today. I really didn't follow the SDCC exclusives too closely, so I had no idea these were the same figures. I'm glad they added the straps for Donnie's Bo Staff, but was pretty surprised they didn't add anything for Mikey. Where are we supposed to store his 'chucks?

Those right there are the SDCC set. I had to cancel my preorder so I don’t have either set and for some reason I’m experiencing déjà vu....😂. My GameStop only got preorders in store. But if I had both sets I would keep the SDCC set in the box and I would display the GameStop set in front of the SDCC box. To be honest, I’m both happy for you that you were able to get both sets and irritated that you got both sets. I’m keeping hope alive that when they went in stock online today, that it wasn’t my last chance at getting them.

Great comparison! Was it lighting or was Donatello's bandana a much lighter purple on the SDCC figure? Als did the SDCC Mikey have a more closed mouth?

It could be the lighting, but I think it was just that my SDCC turtles were displayed and they may have already faded.

Great comparison Matt. Biggest thing I see is that the bandanna color is different between the SDCC and Gamestop Leonardo & Donatello.

I chalked that up to normal paint variations. But maybe they changed it.

The pizza box and slices plus the Donatello straps is a game changer ! I’m not sure but the mistake looks planned , as marketing strategy and sales

This was a great comparison thank you so much for making this video. I did notice you left out the main difference to tell the two figures apart. Every SDCC set Ive seen has darker finger & toe nails. The Gamestop version have a much lighter green color on the nails. You could also argue the Gamestop turtles have a much darker front shell around the edges and overall paint job too. I could tell the SDCC set was on the left because of these markings.

@@TechChucker It took me a good 10mins holding the two figures side by side looking at everything possible before I noticed them. At least this is what I believe to be the main difference. Please let me know if yours are the same way I've been trying to find people to ask about the toenails.

I looked really closely at them just now and all I'm seeing is the yellow toenail and fingernail paint on the GameStop ones is a little brighter, but the SDCC ones do have yellow, it's just not as bright. Not sure if that's a true difference versus just a production variance.

Love the review! I recently bought one along with the TMNT 2014 collection. I was able to find the NECA Gamestop complete set on eBay for $86 and the TMNT 2014 movie collection for $13.99(LOL). Love the TMNT!

The right diagonal strap on SDCC Leonardo is all twisted, but not on GameStop Leonardo, is that normal or did you make it like that? Because if it is, that’s another difference, not a big deal though.

It came that way on mine, but I don't believe that's a normal way for the strap to be. I've never seen anybody else's look that way.

Interestingly enough, the Michelangelo I recently purchased has poseable rigid plastic between the nunchucks. Rather than two thin pieces of string to connect the nunchucks its one thicker piece of poseable plastic. I wonder if NECA silently changed them to make them stronger?

I have 2 of the 1:4 scale Turtles and they're amazing. I really need to get the rest, but they're soo expensive now. I hope you can find a set of these GS ones. I haven't heard many people finding them on the shelves just yet, but you never know. You see Neca revealed they're re-releasing their 2017 SDCC set as well.. Shoot, there goes another $200. lol

With all the hype these damn Neca figures are getting producers should take notice and realize just how popular the original TMNT's were. Time to wake up people and make a TRUE sequel to the 1990's movie...and I mean even forget about TMNTII but a reboot continuing on directly after the 1990's movie using the exact same turtle designs of Jim Henson. Ohhhh man, can I dream or what?

What I ended up doing with my GameStop Donatello was tightening the ribbons so that they were snug on the staff and then supergluing the knot to keep it from coming undone. Still allows you to slide it out, but now it will be secure forever.

I've heard that Neca may ship more out to stores but I have no idea when or if they really will. My guess is they will. Why would they leave money in our wallets if they don't have too? Have you picked your set up or still waiting?

I wonder if earlier sets have identifiers to separate them as earlier editions hmm i might have to check that later. yeah i was one of the fortunate ones who were able to pick theirs up. ive heard stories of people getting theirs cancelled on pickup day or theirs getting sold even thoughh they were preordered. still deliberating though if i should sell them or just keep them as im actually a turtle fan. initial purpose though was to resell.

I'll try to check my sets this weekend and see if there's any identifiers. I think I saw a Neca tweet response when the first SDCC ones came out where they said there wouldn't be, but I'll look and see and try to comment back what I find. Just can't get to it right now.

I've got 2 of the 4 1/4 scale also (Mikey and Raph) I really wanna get the other two but I keep spending all my money and now that they increased the price I'm less inclined to wanna drop the cash on em. But they are amazing. Had they done these 1:12 scale ones first though I probably never woulda gotten the 2 bigger ones.

At this point I'd get whatever ones you can find. Since these have been around for a few years they're probably not as easy to come by. The 2 packs are probably the easiest to find.

I''m really convinced they're essentially the same, but paint apps are probably a hair different which I think is what makes it look different. I do prefer the SDCC set more, but mostly because you get a few more things.

Saw the film about 1993, and have wanted these since then. Dream come true now! My personal opinion is the gamestop ones look better. The SDCC seem lacking. Like Leo's strap is twisted and some belts looked stretched ect. Still the best 1/10 scale figures out there!!!

I think mine just happened to have those issues. I didn't see many others complain of those things. You're right, these are the best 1:10 scale TMNT figures. They're kinda the only ones in this scale from the movie that I know of tho.

Yeah, a long time coming that's for sure. Can't wait to see this years SDCC Splinter pack show up for pre-order at Gamestop too and then to get Beebop and Rocksteady for the comic Target 2-packs also.

@@TechChucker oh man the splinter set is just too cool.i was hoping neca would have shown off even more movie based figures at sdcc but thats gonna be a preview at nycc in October and we'll get the rest at toyfair in feb.im gonna get at least 3 foot soldiers so i can recreate my favourite scene from the movie which is raphael knocking 3 foot soldiers out with 1 spinning back kick.thats an awesome move.

My Mikey came with one of the nunchucks that are stiff and one set where it’s just normal string that’s not stiff. I have the GameStop ones.

I just pre ordered the Eb aka game stop addition , when it comes to value between the Comic-Con addition and EB aka GameStop addition are they both worth the same ? What’s the big deal ?

The SDCC set is going to hold more value market wise, but for each collector the value is really relative to the individual. I don't personally put a lot of value into the special packaging but the couple of extra accessories were very nice. Would have been better though if there were different head sculpts or something that really made each set different.

TechChucker the way I see it is the more rare the item the bigger demand some what like that , a guy at the store told me in 5 years when these are hard to get and people are looking for them I could be offered a lot of money , now for me it’s more of a memorable thing cause when I was a kid the Turtles where my hero’s but to some other people it’s more about the money I guess

Yeah, there's two different ways of assigning value. The market and the nostalgia/emotion. To me, the nostalgia is really high for me, which is why I'd be willing to pay more than retail for them. Market wise, I think the guy at your store was right. Both sets will go up in value unless Neca continues rereleasing the Gamestop set in the future. If they stop the market value of both sets will increase a lot. especially if they keep making more characters from the movies like they did this year and we expect to get those in Gamestop as well {fingers crossed} Overall I look at my nostalgia value first, to determine if I'm willing to pay the current market value for something. Most collectibles I'm not willing. TMNT, I'm nearly always willing. :-)

I think they darker look is because my SDCC set was displayed on my shelf this whole time and they may have faded a bit.

hey can you help me out with something.i ordered the gamestop set from gamestop but i find that mikey's bandana has alot black in it rather than that vibrant orange yours has and the boxes dont have the "onlyn@gamestop" logo on the bottom left of the box.

Hmmm. If the box doesn't have the only @ GameStop that is pretty weird. I haven't heard that there were knock offs of those figures tho. I find it hard to believe you'd get a KO from GameStop. I honestly have no idea but I might try GameStop and see if they'll send you a new one.

I’d keep the SDCC set in the box and display the GameStop ones. Nice figures and I’m a fan of the original movies, I’m hoping to get all four figures, I have Leonardo and Donatello on pre-order.

i got the michaelangelo figure but have no idea which variant of the figure i got(sdcc or gamestop) but the strings on the nunchucks were just one line of rubber that made it easier to pose but one broke immediately when i tried posing it. luckily i super glued it and now its fine and able to pose. but im not sure what variant of mikey it is that comes with the one rubber line for the nunchucks, if any of u know pls lmk.

That's the gamestop exclusive version. I assume yours came in a separate box as well. If it were the SDCC one that was a 4 pack set sold in a big box set. The gamestop ones had the single wire for the nun chucks and I assume the Walmart exclusive ones did also which are just two pack sets repackaged for Walmart.

I noticed a few differences with the Mikey ones, the SDCC one his mouth isn't quite as open(showing his teeth AS much as the newer figure you bought) and the newer one seems a bit taller(his neck seems a tad more stretched than the SDCC figure) and the Donny figure I noticed on other difference besides the back straps. The paint color on the headband is a tad lighter on the SDCC figure than the GS figure. Great comparison

All the paint differences I chalk up to standard paint deviations, rather than a specific change to the production of the figures since they're mostly the same. All the mole/dots are in the same basic spots and you can see they were painted with all teh same basic paint apps, the extent of those may be different. As far as sculpt differences, I think the difference you're seeing with Mikey's mouth is actually a paint difference. the sculpts look the same, but I do see the paint is different between them. There's a little more paint detail on one which makes his mouth look like it's open more. As far as the height, I think it's more likely I have the figures posed slightly different which can add some height to one over the other. In hand, if I didn't keep the separated, I'd never be able to pick out which is the SDCC one vs the Gamestop set. I could be wrong, but I think almost all the differences are standard deviations in regular production, not version changes. Thanks for checking out my comparison.

@@TechChucker Yeah I mean I'd have to see them in front of my face for sure, as a sculptor myself that's why I pointed that mikey mouth thing out. It looked slightly more wider his grin to me at least than the SDCC figure but literally it's very, very vague it's incredibly hard to tell or there's more white paint that's more contrasting with the lips to give that illusion. When I paused it, it appeared that the sculpt is definitely the same for the most part but to me seemed easier to see his teeth more in the newer GS figure. But like I said I'd have to look at both in front of myself to definitely tell. Sometimes in a video or pics it's tougher to see things like that. But yeah I forgot you mentioned some slight paint deviations, maybe the headbands are the ones I noticed more but I totally agree that the Ralph nose one you can tell the differences with some figures. These turtles are not for sale. They're staying in my collection forever. I'm too big a fan of TMNT to let go of any. Just like I probably couldn't ever part with a Batman figure. If you're a fan of the turtles hopefully you can find them, though I know Neca can be tougher to get over there. Tho you get Predator figures, so you should be able to score them. I hope.

Yeah, I think that could be cuz I had my SDCC ones displayed so they may have faded a bit so I consider that just a paint variation. I don't think Neca changed their paint colors.

I wouldn't say both are the same. I notice that all the SDCC figures overall look better, balanced in sculptures. The GS ones look a bit un-proportional, Leo's leg muscle looked a bit Skinner, Mikey looked taller w that longer neck and longer legs, Raph looked like he had longer legs and slightly taller w smaller chest, Don looked like he was un portioned throughout, legs looked short n stubby with a smaller shell. Side by side, the SDCC just looks nicer. GS version is nice enough for the price. But if it was my choice, id spend the extra to get the nicer looking SDCC version. Nice review btw!!

I feel like you're seeing things I'm not. As far as I'm concerned, the sculpts are all the same. Some variations in paint for sure, but for teh most part, I really don' t think Neca did anything different. I think they just packaged them in different packaging and sold em to us.

Keep watching the GameStop site. They've opened up orders from time to time and it's possible your local store may still get them in at some point. Maybe go ask the employees if they know anything

Well done, SDCC was on the left. I lucked out and the yellow on the nose of my Gamestop ones is a much better, but I don't really think that's a big difference cuz most of my SDCC ones weren't too bad, just my Raph. Did you get either set?

That's awesome! The GS ones seem to have a more rigid string to be able to do that. My SDCC ones wouldn't have been able to even if they hadn't broken.

I got tricked by NECA and purchased the SDCC set. Gamestop version is much cheaper and they fix Donny & Michael's accessories. I wish I missed out on SDCC version and gotten the GS set instead.

Looks like Neca is gonna tick off a bunch more people, they just revealed they're re-releasing the SDCC 2017 TMNT 8 pack set as 2-packs exclusive at Target. I'm happy cuz I missed out on that set, but plenty of people are gonna be mad about that too. I just wish they were giving us more time to find the money to buy them. Supposed to come out in Feb/March

Its not that they were trying to dupe people, its that they werent sure they would be able to ever release them at the retail level. There is alot of legality tape when it comes to product licensing and its limitations. That is why you dont see any DC actuon figures from anyone but Mattel at the big box retail level. Other companies arent allowed. DC can license the rights to make stuff off to other companies, but the other companies arent allowed to sell them in stores like walmart, target TRU etc per Mattels contract. Neca had been interviewed and questioned about releasing at retail prior, and said they would like to and are trying to find a way to do so, but werent sure theyd be able to without conflicting with playmates rights.

The VHS cassette replica for the SDCC set is worth the extra money all by itself imo, i have it and i love it so much, its a work of art! By the way, i never understood why they didnt include the straps on the SDCC Donny figure, its something that bugged me since day one, because i have the 1/4 versions and it has the straps on it, so i didnt understood why they didnt included it on the 7" version. Beside that, the VHS box for the SDCC set is absolutely beautiful, and its worth displaying by itself! I love it so much, i had the original VHS cassette when i was a kid, and to have the exact same thing but much larger and with the use of the figures to recreate the movie pictures is amazing! I also love the Gamestop set, i was so happy to see that they finally added the straps on Donny, and i was also very happy to see a much lower price for everyone who missed out on the SDCC set, especially for the international fans who couldnt get the SDCC at a decent price like me! I was lucky enough to find someone who got mine at a very good price, because the prices are absolutely ridiculous on this set! Lol

Both sets are amazing. I just wish I could have scored the SDCC 2019 set as well this year. Sadly, that's a no go so I guess I can't do a comparison of the two sets, assuming Neca re-releases them to Gamestop again. thx for watching.

TechChucker yeah im getting the Shredder and Splinter set this year, i cant wait, it looks absolutely amazing! Both Figures are beautiful, but Splinter looks insane! How come you cant get it, dont you live in the US? I wouldnt worry anyway, its 100% guaranteed that Gamestop will have them later this year, it will have a few accessories less compared to the SDCC set, thats all.

The pre order sales sold out each day so fast and I just wasn't fast enough this year. If they don't release as a GameStop exclusive that would really suck. If they do I'll be preordering two sets and I'll recreate my own version of the SDCC set to go with my SDCC 2018 turtles set. Lol

Technically the heads aren't even different, so just basic paint variations. In the end, it's not worth buying both sets unless you just gotta have the couple of extra accessories. It was nice that Neca gave everyone another chance at getting the Turtles. But yeah, nearly no difference.
