Needs some freezone. Had a lady last winter inform me that freon is only needed in the summer. I tried to explain a heat pump to her, no luck. She thought I was trying to make up a charge. High power bill was her reason for calling... You can not fix stupid if they are unwilling to listen and learn.

I was working at an auto parts, a lady came in and wanted a battery. I sold her one and a couple of hours later she brought it back and cussed me from one end of the store to the other saying I sold her a bad one because her battery light was still on. I tried to explain that she needed an alternator to no avail. She said her son was a mechanic and he knew what he was doing. I exchanged it and guaranteed she would have the same result. I couldn't help smarting off to her when she returned for an alternator.

At least you can reverse a heat pump or run a furnace and melt the ice. It REALLY sucks when its straight air on an electric heat system. In my area we have lots of mobile homes with downflow strip heat. They SUCK.

You can't run the furnace, it will trip on limit and leak water all over the blower motor. There are exceptions of course, like if it's a newer V coil and an unfinished basement you can bypass the air and let it drip all over the floor to the drain...but standard is run the fan and leave til the next day.
