This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Forest Gardening involves mimicking the forest to grow ecosystems for productive and ecological goals. Dan, the Forest Gardener, explains how we can do this is our own backyards and communities/urban environments.
Dan is a young ecologist with experience in forestry, botany, horticulture and land management. He has worked in Botanic Gardens in Hawaii, Ranger Programs in Arnhem Land and in school gardens and nurseries around Canberra.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

urban permaculture, and forest gardens. The only way to stop the destruction of ecosystems, for a so wrong industrialised food chain. Supporting you from Patagonia.

"Tell Dan that I watched the video and thought it was wonderfully presented and very informative. If I wasn't selling the farm, I might try to expand the "garden" area and include the principles he's promulgating. If I do get involved in the local gardening movement here....cultivating empty, abandoned space in the north end, for example....I'll call the attention of the organizers to his presentation." -- Edwin Hiss, St. Louis

Does anyone have any more information about the "hessa systems of Mediterranean Europe" that are mentioned at 4:22 ? The agricultural system here in Greece is problematic and a historical model to build upon would be amazing!

God never intended for us to monopolize feeding people. We need to get back to everyone growing growiwn food and trading with neighbors. Monoculture ag is so destructive.
