Integrated Intuitive interfaces transformed gaming, games like Dead Space moved from immersion breaking HUD displays around the edges of the screen for important gaming stats and instead incorporated them directly into the world of the game. The same can be done with hardware synths and controllers.

They probably didnt add an output jack on purpose because they really REALLY want you to use their speakers and dont want it to be used just as a mixing tool or something. The speakers are really good after all. But its definitely frustrating that they didnt provide the choice to output the audio

Damn I miss the yape wheel so much, it atopped working one day and I have no idea how to fix it. Im curious if the Ortho remote can be used as the tape wheel. That'd be rad

please never change your way of saying things. you summarized so spectacularly what i never could for anyone i've ever tried to convey this to. i don't have every teenage engineering product but i do own the 1, z, street fighter p.o. & 4 among a few other te nicknacks. i've yet to take my 4 out of the delivery box. i've had it for about an hour now. been looking through the youtube algorithm for ob-4 vids and yours has got to be my absolute favorite. i enjoy people who enjoy potentiality. i myself let people talk me out of purchasing it when it first launched. price and hilarious use of the term "magic" did their part as well. but i come to realize that's what i enjoy most about te. their childishness in their very own core design philosophy. i enjoy that their systems are created for fun. and for growth. for now and for the future. i enjoy that long after the 1's release, people are still discovering things about it. ways to use it. teenage. a very apt name for a team of engineers.

I appreciated your video, :) i can see how you came to your title, but it seems like it is able to be misunderstood in ways that divert people away from your main point. Which, to me is your idea of its futuristic design and user interface and experience. Perhaps a revision of your title to something about how synths can learn from the ob-4? Or how the synth building communities can learn from this innovative design? Or maybe something to do with the synth experience, or aesthetic design. I think your title is a little too ambiguous perhaps. Once again, i did appreciate the video, well shot, looked wonderful. Nice one. :)

Thanks so much for watching the full video Dan, the title indeed drives to a misunderstanding, I'm changing to something more towards "innovations in the synths of the future". Again thanks for your time and the suggestions

Hi MisterGrooves, thanks for stopping by. The recording on the background features is already out there SP 404 MKII for example, so surely some stuff could be a nice addition to the "traditional" synths. Cheers.

Progressive disclosure, micro-interactions and contextual interfaces are a couple of notions between many that are often being explored by UX/UX designers. Sadly they don’t often find their way in mass marketed products that often because of corporate mediocrity and inherent lack of understanding design by people making decisions at high level. I am not a big fan of Steve Jobs the man, but had vision and taste. You mentioned Dieter Rams, it is well documented that his designs influenced widely how the original iPod looked like. This things looks pretty much like modern design on an oldschool radio (the one my dad had, form factor wise). I am not sure that form really follows function here, but as a design exercise and a beautiful object which delights and sometimes inspires it’s an absolute win for me.

Design is nice as usual from Teenage Enineering... but the FUTURE of synths? What did I miss? As the other TE products this is for design nerds not synth nerds.

Hey Chris thanks for stopping by, surely the video is not claiming that the OB-4 is the future of synthesizers, but i'm pretty sure that some of the features here will be in the next generation of devices, also i'm certainly a design nerd. Thanks again for your comment. Best

a good-looking design but the obnoxious lack of a 3.5mm audio out, is not good design in my book. Beautiful video though.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I agree totally a 3.5mm out would be amazing. I'm kind of waiting for more "features" maybe transfer audio by Bluetooth or something like that could work

I guess whatever this thing is supposed to do is lost on me. It's more like a weird toy with an unusual interface, rather than an actual instrument...and for that price..uhh what?? LOL

I really appreciate the kinesthetic nature of these pieces, just how physical and hands-on they are. There are so many people who love tape, its limitations and its creative opportunities; and even if these feel like expensive toys in some ways, I feel like a synthesizer or boutique sound design item SHOULD feel like an expensive toy, otherwise we'd just be using Serum, right? Love this.

Hi Katherine, I totally agree with this. The ludic part of composition is paramount for me. Surely I love to approach to the "academic" synthesizers but there's tons of possibilities on the toy side of music, Have you seen the Enner, looks really weird, sounds fantastic and is super haunting .

Hi @Thicks I'm pretty sure that when I read the press comments on the OB-4 they were really teasing with the "LAB" options, maybe bluetooth audio transfer in the near future and voilá, audio out available thru a transmitter. Cheers

Horrible title, there is no synthesis in the ob-4, perhaps you meant the future of “sampling”
@broseroftw
@broseroftw Жыл бұрын
Are you slow? Lol sampling is a form of synthesis- first done by the Fairlight synth in 1979… even if you don’t count sampling music as a form of synthetic instrumentation, most of the OB-4’s technical functions all fit the category of synthesizing sound that can be instrumented by the user… it’s why it has an endless tape, it’s why it can create and store loops that can be modulated and controlled into different shapes, it has dedicated noise and ambience generation… maybe you just have a limited world paradigm for what synth instruments are…
@HiLoMusic
@HiLoMusic Жыл бұрын
@@broseroftw If it isn’t actually synthesizing the recorded sample it would still fall much further into the realm of sampling. This is no more than a toy in comparison to even the simplest and oldest forms of sampling hardware and software.
