Me and my wife bought the game, ordered pizza and played through this game with our daughters. They loved it.

This opening skit is the funniest I’ve ever seen on this show. I’ve never felt so simultaneously personally attacked and yet delighted. Middle Aged Mutant Ninja Turtles, indeed.

I cannot express enough, when the credits were rolling and I saw 95% of all of the original voice actors returned. Rest Peacefully James Avery.

"Can't the ex pick up his kids?" "i don't know, we can call and find out". This had me rolling. Every AJ episode is hilarious, either intentionally or unintentionally. AJ always brings SOMETHING to the table. I wish more YTers were more like him.

Playing through this with my 3 year old son who absolutely loves TMNT and we're having a blast together. Such a weird experience, as I feel like it was just yesterday that I was that little boy playing this over my friends house on his SNES. Now all of a sudden I'm a dad in my 30s playing the same game with my son....

Okay, now I really REALLY want to play a Middle-Aged Mutant Ninja Turtles game. That would be comedy gold.

Really nice to see an indie game and studio getting the spotlight, and it's a good thing that it's been a slow month for AAA releases which allowed us the chance. It highlights something that's important to remember: As bleak as the AAA gaming landscape may be, with its rampant greed, abuse, law-breaking and outright anti-customer (and anti-union, anti-worker, anti-democracy... Anti-humanity, if we're being real) practices, you can always look to smaller games for your entertainment. There's a ton of indie games out there, a ton of really good ones in fact, made by passionate people (most of them gamers themselves) who really care more about making sure their players have a good time than squeezing extra pennies out of them. Let go of your need for high-resolution graphics and high framerates, and give your money to smaller companies who are much more deserving of it.

I miss the traditional angry reviews, this discussion style isn’t as focused

I remember sitting in my living room excited shouting boss names as I got to new levels. Pretty sure I made my wife question a few of her life choices that evening.

The short length is not a bad thing for this. This is the sort of game I love to go though over and over again and knowing I can work my way though it in a reasonable time is nice.

i just played this game at my friends house. we felt like beeing 10 years old, the music took us straight back to the 80's. fantastic game. we finished it in 3 hours but there is replayability in leveling up all characters, gathering stuff and in general optimizing your awesome fighting skills

When I was 10, a family friend gave me her Super Nintendo and all her games as a gift. One of those games was Turtles in Time. I will be eternally grateful to her for letting me experience that classic, and when I have time, I will definitely pick up Shredder's Revenge!

Only thing I'd point out is that the game does actually have an interesting combo system if you want to explore it. You can get by just mashing but there are a lot of combo routes you can find if you're willing to look (or just look them up on YT). The game is similar to Streets of Rage 4 in that regard so I was slightly disappointed it didn't come with a SoR4 style training mode at launch.

Love this game, would love to see them do X-Men next.

Y'know what I wish they had done with April? Given her super-moves where she could turn into her three mutant forms from the original cartoon. Insect April, Cat April, and Fish April. Remember? That would've been a nice little callback.

I grew up with the 2003 series, and watched the 2012 series, after that, and both were my thing of a good mix of serious and comedic, so I never really had that CONNECTION with the 80s show like a LOT of people do....BUT MY GOD this game is incredible. I can't believe the TMNT franchise is ONE still going strong and two has a just as strong and an actual CHILL fanbase. Also Donatello is my favorite turtle I feel like he's SO underappreciated. I just gravitate towards his 03 iteration. And if you never watched he 03 version cause "it was EDGY" or the 2012 version cause it wasn't like the one you knew, I'd say give it and the 2012 versions a chance. They're light on the comedy whereas Rise and 80s turtles are all about the comedy, but the more mature stories allow for the two shows to age like fine wine, and allows for adults to appreciate it, which I think is important for any franchise. After all, as Disney himself said, you're dead if you aim just for kids....Adults are just kids grown up anyways. Even Rise of the TMNT has moments of seriousness sprinkled in its more lighthearted tone. It's so much more than a TTG rip off.

When they're smiling in the thumbnail, it's always a good sign.

Heyo, Joe! Happy to see you guys review TMNT. One question though, will you bring back the classic AJ reviews? They were more detailed and straight to the point with your analysis. These discussion types of reviews are great for TV shows and movies (love em’), but for games seem kinda off. Would love to hear your opinion on the matter and if you’ll ever bring back classic reviews :D

I dunno about "doesn't add anything new." The dodge roll and revive mechanics aren't game breaking, but you'd never see them in a quarter-muncher. A little bit of defensive tech feels great.

Smiling throughout this review I thought to myself " I never seen Angry Joe this happy before"

I'm really glad that they took the classic route on the game and it turned out so well. It could have turned out so horribly wrong if the tried to "modernize" it and lost all of it's charm.

This was my first ever Ninja turtles game I have played and I had a blast with this game I played it with a friend of mine and we both had a great time playing this I've also gotten all the achievements and overall it's just such a great game and not only that though it's just nostalgic done right definitely an easy recommendation easily one of the best games of the year no question about it.

I beat this game about once every day. Love how you can just hop in to peoples games and go. The game is good at punishing you for spamming taunt. Its really not as good as you think. They have enemies that spawn right above you and drop down or charge when you taunt.

Best TMNT in years. Hopefully we get a sequel!

The only TMNT game I had was for the Gameboy, and I remember playing in the car at night and pressing pause to wait for a street light so I can see the screen. Good times

The fact that TMNT's 80's iteration is still considered the pinnacle version, and recieving representation in games, and other media just shows that the people behind making the decisions for its direction actually give a fuck

They can readily add modes or randomizers. Considering the boss duos seem to interact with each other, likely you can randomize the bosses for added fun. Tempestra mode could be added where she keeps summoning versions of the bosses randomly, and say defeat X number or enemies, or try a record for how many bosses you can handle as she summons them. Folks are already modding textures... they can maybe let you mod levels or make custom ones... would be amazing. Gnarly is the only mode where all the mechanics are set up. Okay and Chill you can likely mash through. Okay will be a tad tougher on the last boss. Gnarly also shows that throws are flawed. You can get hurt really badly during throw animations, so you *don''t* want to use them at all.

Props to the devs for having unlockable characters like Casey Jones instead of dicking us out of $4.99 for the Casey Jones DLC. Really, this is a great game and I can't wait to see these devs do another!

April is the GOAT in this game. Her rolling special is amazing, and her rising attack is pure win. I'm a die-hard Leo guy, but I've spent WAY more time playing as April in this game. It's a solid 10/10 for me with how much fun my group and I have had with it. It's just a good time.

A super fun game with lots of classic characters, just way too short

I love this game my son and I played with 4 other peeps online it was total chaos, and it's brilliant!

It's not for me, personally. But God damn it, my kids (4 and 5 years old) LOVE playing this game. I booted this game up bc they and their friends were a little bored, and they were HOOKED!! I only have 2 controllers for my Xbox, but I take the opportunity to teach them to cooperate and share too, like when one gets knocked out, he/she hands his/her controller over to the next one. So this game for me is both entertainment and educational!😁👌🏻 10/10 from me as a parent!

I played it on easy mode and was done in about an hour with another hour to finish the final level. Replay value I could see myself beating it to unlock the achievements and challenges.

When I 1st heard that this game was gonna drop at some point, I was like oh that's awesome and then when I found out it was gonna be developed by the same guys who did streets of rage 4, I knew this game was in good hands. It definitely screams a celebration for all things in the TMNT license and while it does suck that it is pretty short, at least I can say that it definitely is the best modern turtles game we've had. Like the fact that you can play as April O'Neill, Splinter and a version of Casey Jones that isn't terrible( TMNT 2 battle Nexus was awful), it is definitely worth it. I may check this game out someday so soild review!

This is how you make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. Not that crap we had before with Mutants in Manhattan or being cameos in other titles or that Michael Bay movie no one watched.

I grew up on the turtles(the late 80's and 90's)) and loved the show and games back then. Such nostalgic playing this game. Great game. The opening skit was spot on.....and man does this make me realize how old I have become....lol 😅

It's short but this isn't the type of game people usually play for 60+ hours. Brawlers like this are made for short sessions with a group of friends where you can complete the whole thing in an afternoon so the 3 hour playtime is perfect for a game like this.

I hope they do an X-Men game next.🙏🏽

Games like this being handled with such great care and love should be used to exemplify that a video game can still be a fun blast to play without all the blockbuster movie length cutscenes and subtle as a punch in the nose artsy fartsy philosophical bullshit AAA game devs try to shoehorn in all their games because they are nihilists (sad bastards) Is the game short, yeah but it keeps you engaged and is a brilliant game to have a quick go on especially if you've just come home from work or school. Also the soundtrack is awesome, that boss fight against Shredder really is something you should protect your neck to.

I love how they translated the over world map from the old school NES game and used the TmNT arcade game style for each of the actual levels.

As a ninja turtles fan this pretty much provided the perfect fix i needed. The only real issue I had with aside from very very minor things was that its too short lol when the only problem I have with a game is that I wanted more then u have a great game on your hands. This and lego star wars Skywalker saga are the most fun I've had in a while in terms of video games

Insane throwback to the old days!! I saw that the Switch had this, and I instant bought it for my 2 kids. Last Fri night, was playing this with my 2 kids and my wife. Its their very first video game, and its the first game EVER that I've played with my whole family after 10 yrs of marriage with kids. I felt I've unlocked a very special achievement in life.

Already played this game 4 times and it’s still magic every single time. Got me back into the 87 cartoon again and rewatching favorite episodes. Night of the dark turtle in particular was my favorite.

So I'm guessing Joe and Other Joe like Raph and Mikey respectively. Does NO ONE like Leonardo? Maybe it's cause I'm the oldest sibling but GOD I relate so hard to Leo. Especially in the 2012 show when he ranted to April about responsibility when he first had the crush on Karai lol. I was like "YES. *Clap hands* YES. I feel you Leo." We didn't ASK for the responsibility but we just kinda get LANDED with it when it comes to looking after siblings.

I'm so glad you guys reviewed this game, even tho it's on the Switch. Not gonna lie, I was hoping for a "classic" type of review. But, I still thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Cool game. It's like a renaissance of beat 'em up games. At a recent steam festival, I played the demo of another potentially good game - Arnold Bounty Hunter. It looks more like the first Battletoads - there are not only fights, but also various adventures with platforming, hydrocycles. It also looks interesting. I liked the demo.

I don’t mean to be a hater but does anybody else find it extremely cringe and hypocritical of Joe to open the video with a g fuel shirt and a g fuel in each after he attacked that other guy Jeff Kealy for doing a promo with Doritos and Mountain Dew in the background?

This game was a beacon of light in the recent re-tread's and reboots that I was very quickly getting sick of if not having my soul beaten into the dirt.

Loved the game. 8/10. Support these kind of games/devs! Cons: too easy, taunt spam kind of ruins it, not much content outside of playing the levels - I am shocked there's no boss rush or anything else here.

I understand Alex wanting to play Casey Jones upfront, but like AJ said, at least it wasn't a $5 unlockable DLC playable character either. I hope it's successful enough to warrant a DLC - I'd buy it.

It was way too easy, but I still had a blast playing it. I think it breaks at 5 and 6 players. Too much happening, and it gets hard to even figure out what's going on sometimes. And the bosses don't get any harder, so they get mulched. Felt like Donatello was the best character when I played. Had one of the most powerful Special Attacks, especially against bosses. Leonardo definitely felt the weakest, being just "kinda okay" at everything. The guys who could multi-attack while jumping were able to string combos along far faster than Leonardo. But, regardless of performance, everybody knows Michelangelo is the best Ninja Turtle.

Damn. I didnt heard of this game. And since normaly when a game with very little from a 90s franchise that no one heard about for a long time comes out, I just thought "nice! A new angry rant!" Im surprise for this game getting a 9/10. Guess I will try it sometime in the future

It's such a faithful creation and a love-letter to the original sources that it was the same value for me as picking up Turtles in Time for the SNES on release. Relatively speaking 😎 Good purchase.

The 80’s TMNT are the ones I grew up with. I saw some of the later ones and I was like wtf is this. I LOVED the toys. Even had the 🐢 blimp! Many different versions of the turtles themselves too. Ah nostalgia

I don't know about anyone else but the soundtrack on this game is one of the best I have heard in a long time. It's got major points just for bringing back the nostalgia and mixing it in with classic hip hop.

You know, I was a little confused as to why the greenscreen behind Joe and company was not working but then I realised that maybe Joe and Other Joe wearing their Turtle costumes probably would have played havoc with the greenscreen way too much. Still, the green background works here.
