Here's a video showing the size and application for several different sized Brushless Motors. In the video I show a Generic 540 sized Motor, a Tekin Pro4HD 550 sized, a Tekin T8 Gen 2 4030 Buggy Sized and a Tekin T8 Gen 2 4038 Sized Truggy motor.
Want to check out these motors and more?

I have a savage flux xs and for 1/12 scale its pretty heavy, about 10 pounds, and the stock 540 4000kv motor has heat issues even on 2s.. I would obviously go for a pro4hd but I'm limited to can size no longer than 60mm due to the placement on the chassis. I was looking at the TT2502 pro4 3300kv 540 size motor and was wondering if it would have heat issues running on 2 or 3s on a rather heavier setup. Do you have any suggestions?

Ive been racing for about 6 months and have been running a truggy size motor in my buggy. (Mbx7 eco) I just bought a buggy motor (4068) and am looking forward to trying it out. This one is 2050kv where the truggy motor was 2000kv so speed should be about the same. Im hoping that it will smooth things out a bit, so I can get faster lap times. I drove a friends buggy, and it was smoother and less powerfull, but My lap times with his, were faster, and more consistant. Any thoughts on this subject? Great video! Thanks!

Very interesting. So I am wondering? I have run the standard 55T 35T and 27T Brushed motors with AE esc. I am looking at getting a Brushless system. What would you recommend for a Axial Scx10. Weights in at about 8-10 lbs... Price is a concern. I would like to keep it around $200... Thanks for the vid
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 9 жыл бұрын
RcNickster Hey Nick, the SCX10 is such a versatile platform, and with the right upgrades, can easily take on brushless power. Having been bitten by the Axial bug, I have an SCX10 headed in to The RCNetwork to begin a new project. My plans include dropping in a Tekin Roc412 - 2300kv with a RS Gen2. You can find the combo for right around $200 at all the big places, maybe less with coupons......The nice thing is you can control the speed/torque by what battery you run. For huge torque and crawling, use a 2s....want faster than walking speed for G6's - use a 3s....lastly, the motor is 4s capable, but the RS is only 2s/3s - Add an RX8 Gen 2 to run 4s for blistering speeds (for an SCX10!) The main thing, is you will be running a sensored setup, so you'll have buttery smooth throttle control. Hope this helps

@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 9 жыл бұрын
2cwik4u104 The 2200kv is the larger canned MM motor....With that, which car are you putting it in? Specifically what weight? I'm not sure you'd need the larger 4038 Tekin can, since they offer a variety of kv options unlike Castle. As an example, you can get a T8 from 1400kv to 2650kv, or 6 different kvs.

@TheRCNetwork

Johnny Davis the Pro4HD fit with only a few mm to spare (remember the sensor wire). Check the size differences on the T8 and Pro4HD and see - the Yeti won’t be able to take much on that T8 though. The driveline will start deteriorating quick on that torque.

@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 8 жыл бұрын
+Joseph Bones The Tekin motors have raw power and are super smooth. You'll need the Tekin RX8 Gen 2 ESC to power it the best. It's a great system overall and is sensored - which means it is really smooth and efficient even at very low RPMs. Most cheaper systems will be sensorless and will have "cogging" issues at low RPM if you plan to cral at all with the Summit. Other than that, you'll have to plan on a kv that will suit your driving style.

@TheRCNetwork

Darksharkracing Do you have reverse engaged on the ESC settings? If so, does reverse seem more powered than forward? If it does, reverse your radio settings to reflect the opposite (if you pull the throttle, it should go in reverse...) Then, go into the Hotwire app and manually reverse the motor. Not sure why this happens, but I had an issue with my set up from my Axial Yeti XL - Might be the way the motor faces on the chassis...

+Donkey Commander the RX8 will run much smoother and be able to control that motor better - about 4 years ago, I tried saving a buck and partnered the Pro4 4600 with the MMP and nothing but heat issues from day one. I currently have a T8I (36mm OD w/finns) 1600kv /momba max setup in my Wraith , both failed from a snow run and bad maintenance. Truck is 20lbs . What 540/550 4pole be able to freeze the same kind of power and Torque from a dead stop. I like watching the tires wrap around the wheel like a Top Fuel drag car and then the truck jump in the air from a blip of the throttle. Ideal in my mind would be 6pole same size can as the T8I
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 4 жыл бұрын
You have a wraith that's 20lbs?? My fully built Wriath from Mattzilla - literally every part is aluminum or steel weighs in at about 10 lbs, or just shy. I don't think any 540/550 can handle 20 lbs. After all, most 540's are meant for 5lbs-7lbs and 550's usually are for the heavier SCT's/Crawlers at 7-10lbs
@daviddroescher
@daviddroescher 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheRCNetwork yes it's exceedingly heavy hence the 4pole 8th scale motor, it has performed beautifully till I failed to do my after snow maintenance. @@daviddroescher Honestly, I'd keep the 1/8th scale motor in there if it fits. Drop your gearing down and run 4s. I'm surprised you haven't puffed 2 cells on that combo/weight. Even 3cells would be challenged moving that weight.

John Smith most manufacturers (like HobbyWing) use 4 digit numbers like that. 36 would mean the can diameter and the second would be the can length (without the motor shaft). For HobbyWing, a 3660 is a 550 sized motor. Their 3652 is a 540 sized.

Would a castle slate 2850kv 10th scale motor be about the same all around as the tekin t8 1/8 scale 2000kv?
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 7 жыл бұрын
Not even close. The 2850 is a 540 sized motor - although its a lower kv and capable of using from 2s to 4s, it doesn't have the torque to push around heavier vehicles like the T8 does. The 2850 has a 3.2mm motor shaft, vs the 5mm of the T8. The T8 is just a larger motor over all, intended for 1/8th scale applications and can push heavier loads. It really depends on what vehicle you're putting it into.

This didnt help me at all but i still clicked like. you start with 540, then you move to 550, and then you completely change topic and talk about what Tekin name their motors. this doesnt help me. are you saying that there is no industry standard for the next size up, which is 1/8 buggy? and to make it worse, tekin call the next size up the T8 as well. exactly the same name for a larger motor?! surely there must be a better naming convention than "the longer 1/8 scale motor with lower KV thats used for heavier cars like truggy and monster trucks". i bet there is a proper name somebody will know it!!
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 4 жыл бұрын
If you're looking for "industry standard" that's definitely not RC! Motor can sizes are all over the board.....like you saw in the video - 540 and 550 can sizes are common in 1/10th scales. I've seen it referenced once by Team Orion where they call 1/8th scale buggy motors (thee 4030 T8 by Tekin) a 690 can. Usually for 1/8th scales you have to rely on kv and can size in mm. Sorry to confuse you, but it's like clarifying muddy water, TBH
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 4 жыл бұрын
Also, Tekin references the two different T8's as 4030 for buggy (69mm can) and 4038 for truggy (longer 74mm can)
