Recently installed a Crown 309MJ in my Fighting Edge and thought I'd make a comparison video of general tekken inputs between it and the Sanwa JLF.
I'm no execution god ;)
I've been playing on Japanese levers for 2 years and Korean ones for just about a day as of this video.
Sticks:
Nacon Daija - Stock JLF with a silver ball top and Sanwa Buttons except last two which are Crown SDB 202 MX's with Cherry Blue switches.
Hori Fighting Edge - Crown 309MJ lever 25A grommet, with stock Hori Hayabusa buttons.
Music:
Chrono Trigger OST - Corridor's of Time
Under Night In-Birth EXE:Late OST - Gather's Under Night...
Contents:
0:00 Sanwa 1p Wave Dash
0:33 Sanwa 1p KBD
1:02 Sanwa 1p General Execution
1:59 Sanwa 2p Wave Dash
2:30 Sanwa 2p KBD
2:59 Sanwa 2p General Execution
4:07 Crown 1p Wave Dash
4:44 Crown 1p KBD
5:19 Crown 1p General Execution
6:16 Crown 2p Wave Dash
6:48 Crown 2p KBD
7:23 Crown 2p General Execution

Wow, just the video I needed to see this morning. When I get home, I'm going to practice on my Arcade Stick. I have been avoiding it for at 2 years in Tekken 7. If this guy can do on a Sanwa JLF then I can too. And here I thought I needed a Korean Lever when I turns out, all I needed was some true practice and inspiration. I'm going in boys....

Okay- I got how to not jump when doing the ewgf motion. But how do you do wave dashes properly? I keep getting f,n,d,df. I'm trying to buffer a forward at the end. So basically f,n,qcf,f. I can do this on 1p side somewhat but I can't do it on 2p. :( You seem to do it so effortlessly, that it makes me feel hopeless. Any tips you can give me, @kilsalot?

You're rocking with a Nacon Daija and a Hori Fighting Edge? Dude, you have great tastes! I been messing around with K levers for almost 3 years now. I recommend the Crazy Dongpal lever. It's just as smooth as the Crown 309 MJ and it has tighter diagonals from my experience. Then again, I think the Crown 309 MJ is the better lever, overall. It comes in real handy in 2D games (I play UNiB, KOF, and MUGEN with it), while the CDP, on the other hand, is almost an Mishima exclusive stick.

Interesting, I'm pretty new to them myself, haven't tried any 2D games yet. I'll give it a shot with Guilty Gear Strive tho. I'll take a look at that Crazy Dongpal lever, I'd like to try out as many levers as are available to me.

@@Duskr9 The 309 MJ feels... a lot more precise than a JLF, thanks to its tightness and shorter throw. The inputs feels more precise imo. But I have been told that putting in a 2 or 4lbs spring with an octo gate yields a similar feeling. I have yet to try the 309 MJ on high execution games from the 90s yet. Especially those ridiculously hard SNK games. Only played those with Seimitsu sticks.

I switched to stick, it’s really hard to control the movement. I’m playing on p2 side, it came naturally, but I need to keep practicing both sides. Lemme tell you this, even though it’s hard, it’s 100 times better, and more fun to play on stick. Just keep trying. Gl everyone 🙏

Your comment is old but I'll still post my reply in case it may help another. If you are on a sanwa square gate what helps, especially in kbd from the right side is to push the lever to whatever side your trying to backdash and then slightly bringing it down until you hear a click. Thats it. Just keep repeating this motion alot till you are better at it. Once you are better at it now try to do it like this: bring the lever to the side and then as soon as you push it down and hear the clicking sound then come to neutral and do back. Repeat this till your fluent. It may take tons of practice but the main thing is to do it slowly at first. Speed will come naturally later. You may feel that your doing it without even thinking about it. This will be because of muscle memory.

@kilsalot
@kilsalot 2 жыл бұрын
Its really mostly personal preference for how each individual will use stick so I'm sure you'll get it with practice, but as for advice all I can say is to make sure you're sitting up straight and have your stick flat on your lap or playing surface, little inconsistencies with how I held the stick really made some motions hard in the beginning. When you sit down to practice on stick accept that you'll not be as fast or as fluent as you were on pad so try not to play like you would on pad, make deliberate slower movements in order to focus on precision. Speed will come naturally later. I think it helps to play casual sets against a friend or at least stay away from the ranked ladder and play matches in player match to remove any distractions and allow you to focus purely on improving. Good luck!
